Throughly presents sustainable land developmentReview Date: 1998-12-01
It is written for a wide and concerned audience, composed of real estate professionals, financiers and designers. This book is not technical. It is a conceptual book and guides the reader toward sustainable solutions.
This subject is very large and this book is necessarily a summary, which includes recent projects.
This book does not "preach to the choir". It addresses difficult obstacles to the sustainable development
paradigm and provides workable solutions.

As usual, practical!Review Date: 2007-02-24
This book, however, attempts to shed some light on the concept, of bringing Guided Reading groups into the upper elementary classroom. I found the book to be very helpful in examining the role of the teacher and of the students in teaching reading. The author, Mary Schulman, draws on her years of experience, with chapters on setting up the classroom for effective literacy instruction, guidelines for forming the groups, and sample lessons scripted out.
There isn't much missing from the books, possibly other than how to tackle chapter books in these groups, which much of the kids seem to want. I found this book to offer practical ideas that I could easily bring into my classroom. I highly recommend this for anyone wondering about guided reading in the upper elementary grades!

Still Useful, even with google and John Muir ExhibitReview Date: 2007-11-24
One way of finding many of Muir's best quotes is available through this 1988 compilation by Peter Browning. Browning has selected quotations from Muir filling 74 pages, arranged chronologically. Each chapter reflects a particular time period. For example, the first chapter, "So Little a Time, " reflects 1860-1869. The book ends with a chapter reflecting some Muir quotes from as late as 1920, published quite a few years after his death.
The most valuable feature of the book is the index. The 22 page index includes most of the topics that one might think of when thinking of John Muir, for example, "Animals," "Bears," "Earth," "Mountains," "Nature," and "Wilderness." It also contains many topics you might not expect: "civilization," "darkness," "ignorance," "People," and "wives." Then, under each of these topics, you will find the first line or a portion of a phrase which uses that topic in the quotation.
Thus, if you look up "Freedom," in the index, you will find five quotes using that word, indicated by phrases like "boasted f. of the town," or "f. and beauty and peace come in." If you look up the latter, you'll find this relatively-unknown gem from Muir: "Only spread a fern-frond over a man's head, and worldly cares are cast out, and freedom and beauty and peace come in." Browning indicates the source of each quote, this one from both the Atlantic Monthly (January 11,) and My First Summer in the Sierra, with the correct page numbers indicated. Browning also indicates when it was first written, when that can be determined; in this case on June 13, 1869.
With the advent of the World Wide Web, it is now possible to do a search on the John Muir Exhibit Website for the source of many Muir quotes. If you need to find the source of a particular Muir quote, you can do a search on the John Muir Exhibit website with the Sierra Club host server search engine. This allows you to type a key phrase from the quote you are trying to find, and if it is on any of the books Muir wrote which we have online, you should find it.
Even with the Web, Peter Browning's compilation provides a very useful service, allowing keyword searches, and it is also fun just to leaf through the book to read many of Muir's best quotations. Of course, at 98 pages, the book is not exhaustive, and the selection are those preferred by Browning. Some of my favorite quotes are not found in Browning's book. But most of Muir's best quotes can be found in the book, so I recommend it if you have a need to find Muir sources.

The poet of dramatic monologue Review Date: 2004-11-11
Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith ' A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all,
nor be afraid!'
Browning is a poet of the inner life. His dramatic monologues are in the words of F.B. Pinion the editor of the Collins Edition of ' Dramatis Personae' centered on ' the thought- processes and mental outlook of his characters than in dramatic action" The
poems are rich in consideration of the moral and religious problems of his time. Lovers of poetry and students of human relationships can certainly be enriched by the reading of these poems.

Peach Street Follies is warm and fuzzy ...Review Date: 2007-03-02
Susan Browning Pennington has created a warm and welcoming world that will be enjoyed by the young and the young-at-heart. This reader felt herself pulled cozily into the arms of a loving family. Pennington took me back to a childhood I thought mostly forgotten, and helped me remember what it was like to find adventure in every moment, and something exciting in every new day.
Good job, Susan!

Rancher's Double DilemmaReview Date: 2003-04-21
EXCELLENT STORY JUST -- MAKES IT A 4 STAR PLUSReview Date: 2005-01-26
She has driven their Winnebago to Mosquito, Texas to visit the grave of her first-born twin daughter. There she learns that Garth Colquitt is looking for a nanny for his 10 month old daughter. She sure hopes to land the job and find a place to rest at where Bunny won't find her and Michelle.
Garth and his brother Cody are trying to run their ranch and take care of Ashley Anne at the same time. They keep losing nannies. Garth has lost his wife 9 months ago and probably would have lost it if it hadn't been for his little daughter.
Cody is in love with Kim and she wants him to relocate to Wichata Falls and leave the ranch. Lonliness, lack of people, just not her style.
Follow the story closely and see what happens when Garth realizes that Michelle and Ashley Anne are twins. When the babies come down with chicken pox and then so does Garth. Oh,my!
Donna, the pediatrician, is interested in Garth and he apparently has been seeing her.
Ah, but then, during one of Cody and Kim's fights, the babies disappear. Oh, yeah, Bunny shows up. What a dork.
Thoroughly enticely romance except that Lacey is a bit wishy-washy about falling in love. Yup! goes home to mama.
You will love the rest. [I hope!]
Definitely recommended -- enjoy! [Lacey sure is strange.]
