My review of this series

Yet another mind blowing series by Terry Brooks! This series takes place in those familiar lands in the world he has created. He lets you know what has happened to your favorite old charactors in a historical like fashion throughout the book, with the charator The high Druid Walker Boh is the only to continue forth in this new adventure.

He tricks you into believeing it will be a lot like his others as far as charactor development but suprises you by going completely opposite of what you believe it to be going. There are parts that I found a little questionable like Anthrax, which I will nt give away, it's origins and the truth of the books of magic kind of struck a little close to cheesiness, but was well recovered in the final book when you learn that what you thought was the main plot of the series, was just a leading factor to the real plot!

This is an engrossing series and highly recommended! Once again I found myself attatched to the charactors, and smiling a lot and even getting a litte misty eyed at times. GO READ IT, AND LOVE IT! I can't wait till I have the next series in hand The high Druid of Shannara series.

This is the touching story of a girl named Jingle. It is her goal to run in the town's Fun Run Race, but after training to within an inch of her life, her sneakers get a big hole in them! Will Jingle, a tomboy-ish girl with a heart of gold, be able to run the race? Or will she be forced to watch from the sidelines, her holey sneakers crumbling beneath her? This is a story about determination, will power, and most of all, friendship. Recommended for kids ages 5-10!

Anyone interested in the White Mountains of New Hampshire will be fascinated by this compelling account of Joe Dodge, the real Old Man of the mountains. Putnam weaves humor and tragedy with his own personal knowledge of the man who was perhaps most responsible for the modern perception of the Northern Peaks. AMC Hutmaster, pioneer SAR organizer, co-founder of the Mount Washington Observatory, organizer of the legendary Inferno races from the summit of Washington to Pinkham Notch, it's all told in this wonderful book.

Lectures on Preaching, by Phillips Brooks
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-22
Phillips Brooks was an Episcopal minister in late-19th century Boston whose Lyman Beecher Lectures on Preaching set the standard for generations to come. When Dean Willard Sperry, of the Harvard Divinity School, told his predecessor that he had been invited to give the Beecher lectures, he was asked, "But what are you going to say? There isn't anything left to say. Phillips Brooks said all that can be said about preaching, and all that needs to be said, in his lectures long ago." Dean Sperry replied that he need not have labored the point. "I was already painfully aware of my dilemma."

The enduring appeal of Brooks' lectures may be seen in the fact that, as the twenty-first century begins, they are still in print and still being recommended by professors of preaching around the country.

To Brooks, preaching is "the communication of truth through personality." Thus his lectures have as much to do with the person in the pulpit as with the task of preaching. One cannot read the chapters of this book without feeling the force of Brooks' own personality. But there is also God's plenty of truth in the book, phrased in such a memorable way that it will leave an enduring impact.

Outside Trinity Church on Copley Square in Boston there is a statue of Phillips Brooks, but one might well say that his true monument is this book containing his views on preaching.

I am impressed with Al Roberts' edition of "Juvenile Justice - Policies, Programs and Services." As an 18 year veteran of the juvenile field I found the contributions to this book to be timely, accurate and compelling for anyone interested in youth services. One needs only to look over the chapter titles to find that Roberts hits all the bases. Chapter 3 "The Coming Storm" and Chapter 19 "Balancing the Response to Youth Crime..." will leave you thinking and may well change your youth & family practice and design of services!

Computer jargon, worms, firewalls and viruses can easily lead to confusion, particularly for the novice computer user. Mr. Uitti's book simplifies all the things necessary to protect your lifeline to the cyber world where cyber theifs and predators are lurking in the dark waiting to steal your money and even your identity. In simple language accompanied by delightful illustrations, Dan Uitti's book will become required reading for all computer users. I highly recommend this book.

A well crafted poem is an effective inducement

Review Date: 2008-04-03
A well crafted poem is an effective inducement for parents and teachers seeking to interest children in reading as a personal pastime. Profusely illustrated throughout with the color photography of Ken Robbins, "Keepers: Treasure-Hunt Poems" by John Frank is a collection of thirty poems that are specifically and successfully intended to interest young readers. The poems are thematically organized into five major sections according to where childhood treasures are to be found: At the Beach; In the Attic; In the Mountain and Desert; At the Flea Market; Beneath the Ground. A delightful compendium of superbly crafted, thoroughly 'kid friendly' verse, "Keepers" would make a popular and welcome addition to personal, school, and community library poetry collections for young readers (and not-so-young readers who are still young at heart!). 'Comic Book': Good ol' Clark Kent,/That mild-mannered reporter,/on sale at a swap meet,/a buck and a quarter.//Not bad for a comic/in decent condition--/I wish, thought, that it were/a mint first-edition.
