I read this book without many preconceptions about Rachel Carson and found the book engaging and enlightening. She had an interesting life and her affect on the environmental movement is profound.

We use this book for our school at home program when discussing what people ate a long time ago. It is very clear, easy to understand and the pictures only enhance the subject of discussion on each page. This is much better for younger children rather than older children.

My 20 month old granddaughter loves "birdies." This book was a hit with her. She loved to find the pictured bird on each page and excitedly turned the pages to find the next one. The board book pages are just right for her age, as well. Any preschooler would like it.

This book deals with the broad range of PDE problems with wonderful numerical algorithms.
I was crushed on the 1st edition because it was really well-balanced (i.e.,just necessary math but full coverage of real world interests) and well-organized book.
This book (the 2nd edition) includes more pictures and examples which help the reader to undersand the important concepts with ease.
Sometimes, the brief sentences seem to be too concise to the fist reader, but that is not true.
Once the reader understand the previous stuff, he or she does not need to look other books to understand the next stuff.

This book can be used as a text book in math or computer science class, but to engineers like me, this book is amzing even to the researchers who are closely got involved with physical modeling or simulation.

It is very difficult to meet good people, and it seems to be lucky if we meet those kinds of people.
This is also true for us to meet well-written books.
I feel I am very lucky to find this book.

The Textbook and Academic Author's Association awarded this text its prestigious TEXTY textbook excellence award in 2007. It was the only book in the mathematics/statistics category to win the award.

I enjoyed using this textbook. The explanations were clear. Plus, the spiral binding made working out of the text easier. Selected answers are in the back of the book.

My 5 1/2 year old loves this book. The clues are pictures of things like animals and she picks a word off the short list (4 or so words) that are the answer (example- Tiger, Lion, Cat, dog). They answers are setup so that a very beginning reader can pick out the words. She writes in the words. She has gotten such a feeling of accomplishment doing this and is learning to sight read.

Great educational tool. It makes a great stocking stuffer. Cards wipe clean, durable and easy to carry around. I prefer to give educational gifts that they will benefit from. It's non-toxic and used over and over again. Worth the money.
