The book was extemely helpful in my husband's research. He was particularly excited about the conciseness of the book. I could hear him agreeing with the concepts presented in the book. He's very pleased with the book.

SUBLIME!

This is one of Eldon Taylor's most beautiful and useful casettes. The voice and music work together to generate Alpha brainwaves immediately and then you just relax and the positive messages (audible) and subliminals do the rest. The audible guided meditation is sheer poetry. Everybody can benefit from this cassette except those are already perfect.

An insightful guide to ethical decision making.
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 20 total.
Review Date: 1998-11-19
Elizabeth Reynolds Welfel has written an insightful and informative guide to ethical decision making for anyone in the helping professions. She presents her material in a clear and easily readable form. It is obvious that Dr. Welfel is an expert in the field and her vast knowledge of the research on ethical behavior is evident. Her nine-step model of ethical decision making is a clear blueprint for helping counselors and psychologists make informed and thoughtful ethical decisions. I have used this text to help my counseling students develop an understanding of the ethical standards and underlying principles of the counseling profession and I plan to continue to use it in the future. I highly recommend this book for anyone teaching in counselor or psychologist education, as well as for any mental health professional.

A treasure trove

It is a shame that this book is out of print as it is one of the best books ever published on American civilization. Many people think that New England gave us only Emerson and Thoreau. In point of fact the cultural life of Boston and the environs was much more interesting and dynamic than one would imagine, particularly if one has not read this book. This is a series of vignettes rather than a seamless history. It is a kind of Plutarch's Lives of New England cultural figures.

What I particularly enjoyed about it was not the usual stories of people everyone has heard about, like Emerson, Alcott, Thoreau, but also people like William H. Prescott, whose story is perhaps the most inspiring. Though blind, he was able through the use of sighted readers to write some of the best histories of Spain under the Hapsburgs that have ever been written (anyone who is familiar with the archives in Madrid and their chaotic nature will want to make Prescott a particular hero). The section on Hawthorne is also very fine due to what Brooks has to say about Boston vs Salem. They are very different places as anyone who has ever been there can testify.
I hope this book comes back into print. It should be readily available to the ordinary reader.

You must have this book if you are interested in the bible
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.

This is the standard, the book that can be found in every scholar's library. It's been reissued many times, and someone out there should reissue it again.

Yet it's a very short book. A list, almost, of all the mentions of early Christianity, and the sources that mention the formation of the biblical canon, leading up to and including the canon issued by the council at Carthage in 397 AD. To be able to find exactly what books were included in the canon from the first up to Carthage is, alone, invaluable.

It's invaluable to be able to quickly pick up letter by Mara, for example, and get the exact words he wrote to his son without having to plow through page after page in a larger text. Furthermore, the exact text in the original language is printed next to the English translation.

If you are interested in early Christianity or the formation of the bible, you cannot live without this book.
