Matthew O'Donnell's work is groundbreaking and subtly unique. Apart from his remarkable research and discussion of New Testament Greek, Dr. O'Donnell challenges biblical scholars to look again at corpus linguistics - particularly the process of corpus building and its value to textual criticism, lexicography and discourse analysis.

Here is the story from the big bang to us
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.

At the time of publication, nobody had cosmic evolution or origins in mind. This is the first book I know of that literally begins with the big bang, and shows how the formation of our galaxy, our star, and our planet, and life and intelligence follow each other to offer a view of where we came from. Succinctly written and well illustrated.

Written in a friendly and easy to understand format, Thompson & Rudolph "Counseling for Children" - is a detail and an invaluable book to own.

It features exclusively on 'Children' ... by first chapter including the introduction to the child's world (developmental and cognitive perspectives in influencing the child's world) ... subsequently including counselling theories specially for children from psychoanalytic, reality therapy, behavioural counselling, person-centred counselling, rational-emotive & cognitive-behavioural counselling etc..,

Thorough treatment of the counseling process.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-12-03
One of my professors once told our class that the difference between a bartender and a counselor is that counseling is a craft. Most of what people understand about counseling comes from the old Bob Newhart show and from Frasier.

Drs. Patterson and Welfel have put together a text that is a cogent, yet thorough treatment of the counseling process. As Dr. Welfel shared with our class one time "Counseling is not something you do to someone."

These authors have made an excellent contribution to the literature with their in-depth exploration of an integrated, three stage model that is easy to understand. Client-centered in its approach, this model adds rhyme and reason to what we do and it gives us an appreciation of where the client is at now, and how to listen to him/her to help develop goals.

This book is up-to-date and extremely informative in presenting counseling interventions with examples of effective treatment programs from all over the United States. Counseling Treatment and Intervention brings the fields of social work and criminal justice together in a comprehensive text with equal applicability to both fields. There is much attention to cultural and gender differences in this text as well. Highly useful!

If you want to mix a little history in with your bedtime story experience, this book is charming beyond words. The premise is simple: seeing how a mouse family lived 100 years ago. The illustrations make the book come to life and you can talk about life in the old days, contrasting the book's pictures with today's pace and lifestyle. Great treat for both children and adults. Companion book: City Mouse House is just as terrific and together they make a wonderful way to explore cultural differences. They are a must buy for your family library!

Crisis Management Expertise In Your Back Pocket
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-05-10
This book provides an excellent overview of how to help others who are experiencing crisis.

If you want to learn how to help people manage crisis situations, you can spend a few hundred dollars and two days sitting in an uncomfortable chair straining to see unintellegible overheads and listening to a charismatic sage on the stage. You can spend a hundred dollars on a text that catalogues the details about every manner of client problem and how to address those details. You'd be much better served by reading this book and keeping it close as an accessible reference about how to really help people.

This is an excellent book about the nuts-and-bolts or how to help people when they're experiencing crises. Although this book provides a clear understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of crisis management, the primary focus is on techniques of helping and the concrete aspects of interacting effectively with people that are hurting. This is a book for those who want to "do" rather than just think about doing. Crisis Management and Brief Treatment: Theory, Technique, and Applications is not the comprehensive treatise that other handbooks aspire to be. It is an affordable, readable guide for those who want to get on to the business of helping. As with other interpersonal interventions, one needs to understand the concepts or theories of the intervention, one needs to identify the specific techniques of associated with operationalizing those techniques, and one needs to know how to adapt those techniques and skills to the specific people and situation of immediate concern. This concise text is THE book to guide the reader in this process.

Do your friends or clients a favor. Buy this book and learn how to help them when they're really hurting.
