The Ming dynasty in China does not receive much attention since it mostly lacks the bloodshed or philosophical grandeur of the Qing, the Tang or the Han. Brook is one of the leading authorities on this era, and this book is, I believe, his most accessible. Beginning with documents written late in the dynasty, Brook shows how the elite of that time feared the collapse of the imagined golden past into what was then considered an immorally secular present. The massive economic changes in the globe in this era (14th to 17th centuries) changed the Chinese society and the Confucian elites place in it. Obviously less exciting to laymen than his work on Tiananmen, 1989, this is a clear book for students who have a general grasp of Chinese history and want to begin to grab details without losing the easy flow found in well written introductory books.

I found this to be an exceptional book. It provides excellent practical strategies to be successful in math. It covers everything from psychological/personal blocks that may hinder students from learning math to practical success strategies that students can apply immediately. I especially enjoyed the discussion on learning styles and the accomodations that can be used for better understanding of coursework. I found the chapters on positive self-talk, conquering test anxiety and study skills very helpful as well. Every math teacher should have this book on their shelf!

This book offers a unique perspective compared to typical railroad picture books. While the photographs, mostly by the author, are excellent, the captions provide detailed information about what is being transported. These details extend to train numbers, number of loads vs. empties, tonnage, and locomotive numbers. The book offers the reader an appreciation of what is being transported where and how Conrail organized the movements.

I have not read much of the book that was purchased, however, it is used often in my class and it is referred to more that any of the other text books that are required for my Social Work Policy course.

Everything went as promised, book was new and it was delivered a day before I was told.

Great collection of books... Variation in subjects covered is both interesting and astutely chosen.

Lots of German ideas laid out in clear easy to read ingredients and recipes. The Honey Cakes sound great! Each recipe has both the German and English name. Some other recipes that sound delish: Beer Fritters, Bouquet Salad, Plum Cake, Swiss Chocolate Snaps, Dingy Pudding, and one of my faves, Pickled Nasturtium Seeds. Great deal, recommended.

No one can go through life and not enjoy the adventures on Merry Brook Farm. You will enjoy the story of this large family and life on a farm during the winter and summer! This was another favorite series we read over and over again as children. The sequel Ice Slide winter is great also!

For everyone who's once been young,loved,lost, or played softball on a hot summer day,this book is a must read. Based on the author's experiences as a boy and young adult at a NY summer camp-highly recommended for the child in us all.

Clum's book was recommended to me by a psychologist friend after I experienced several panic/anxiety attacks, a disorder which she had also suffered. The attacks were "life changing" experiences that I would do almost anything to avoid repeating. This book helped immensely by explaining what was going on and how to deal with the fear and shame a person with anxiety faces. It gives you insight into the anxiety process and tools to deal with the anxiety cycle. It is easy to read. Of course, anyone with severe panic/anxiety problems should consult an appropriate health professional also. There is help available and this book is amazing.
