Probably the best English-language biography about Archduke Franz Ferdinand

Review Date: 2007-04-25
Brook-Shepherd, a longtime European correspondent for the British newspaper _Daily Telegraph_, has put in a great deal of effort and time into the research on this book. As he wrote in the 1980's, he had access to Sophie, the last surviving child (and the firstborn) of Franz Ferdinand and Duchess Sophie of Hohenberg, and conducted extensive interviews with her and other descendants of the murdered pair which provided fascinating insights into their ancestors' private lives and personalities.

Brook-Shepherd's portrait of the Archduke is simultaneously balanced and sympathetic. He carefully examines the complicated political issues which confronted Austria-Hungary, and which Franz Ferdinand would have had to confront in his turn had he survived to ascend the Hapsburg throne. Intertwined with these affairs of state, he presents a comprehensive portrait of the Archduke as a person, offering strong evidence for the proposition that Franz Ferdinand's notorious bad temper and misanthropy were in large part driven by the nasty slights both small and large inflicted on his wife Sophie, the great love of his life.

Illustrated with a good number of high-quality black-and-white photographs. Recommended.

I rate this book very high as it upholds and teaches Christian values. The main characters, Caleb and Core Asquinn do not compromise these values no matter who tries to entice them into giving up their intregity.
I like how the parents of the four boys, the twins, their cousin and best friend Larry, agree to them training Keta throughout the summer. Hurray for them! This kept the four teen agers busy and with little time left over for mischief.
I cheered with them all at the end when Trevor and the dog won the championship. This was a great ending and results of their efforts and trust from the adults.
Keep up the good work, Grace Brooks. We need more books upholding the Christian values like this series.

It was really exciting to read this title as it answeres a lot of questions about Ken and Matt that were left sort of up in the air at the end of the title before it.(The Asquinn Twins and Where The Trail Forks)It was exciting to see the boys humbled and brought back to their former relationship with God. No not their former relationship but both were on a higher plane than before.
As Pastor Asquinn had predicted in the title before, both boys did come back to Forest Lake humbled but God began to raise them up. Like Sherry predicted, Ken became a commander of men when he signed on as the first ever Chief of Police of the newly organized Forest lake, Ontario, police detachment.
Matt also returned to Forest lake and joined Ken in policing Forest Lake. This was all so touching and writing so vividly and tenerheartedly.
I certainly hope I am not the first to read and then write a review for this book. I am looking eagerly forward to more titles in this series.

An exciting, suspense-filled journey through Jesus' time!

This remarkable novel of biblical historical times is told through the eyes of a family of donkeys and their owners who lived through this most significant period---from the Nativity to Jesus' death on the cross to the receipt of the Gospel of Revelation from John and its transmission to the seven churches of Asia.

The life of the common man (and beast) in that period is vividly portrayed and brings each character to life, and the action makes the book difficult to put down. One can easily become immersed in the period as they travel through the biblical lands with the aid of their faithful beasts of burden who know them so well.

This novel is thoroughly enjoyable for people of all ages--teenagers through the most senior citizens. The author, Wynell Brooks Hutson, has faithfully followed the timeline of that era as well as the customs and traditions of the people.

This book brings the most important time and events in the Bible to life and allows us to live with the family and their donkeys as they help deliver the precious cargo in each of the key scenes in Jesus' life and crucifixion to the receipt from John of His revelation. It is a remarkable story that will be treasured by the whole family.

So far the best text book I've encountered

Seeds has a deep understanding of science and a refined writing style that is rarely found among textbook writers. Aside from hard astronomy details, he strives to train his student readers to think like real scientists, which includes the necessary skill to distinguish true science from pseudoscience. Sometimes the tone of the author subtly reminds of Carl Sagan; If you like Carl Sagan, you'll love this book.

The beautiful graphics and the student's edition of TheSky CD further enhances the value of this product. Seeds is a strong force indeed.

Beautiful Introductory Text
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-26
This book is a text aimed at the astronomy course that non-science majors might take in fulfillment of the requirement that they can't get out of college without at least one science class. As such, the book goes far beyond simply looking at the solar system and a few stars.

Perhaps the most important concept in the book is for the student to come away with a basic understanding of the scientific method. Here is how you study/observe nature, create a theory, test the theory, use the theory to make predictions, test the predictions, alter the theory as needed. In a time where the President of the United States is talking about things like Intelligent Design as though it is science, this simple explanation of science is sorely needed in the population.

This is the fifth edition of the book. The most important changes in the new edition is the inclusion of new ideas, new photographs, new things that have been discovered since the last edition. Other changes include new writeups, new figures that are hopefuly more clear than in preceeding editions.

"At His Feet" is a wonderful book! It is practical, readable, and applicable! "At His Feet" reminds me of the Greek word, paraclete, meaning "one called alongside to help." This book is just one of the "tools" called along side to help us as we walk the Christian walk.
