A compassionate zeal for truth

I have spent the last several years looking at many of the various sources on this subject; most very good, yet nothing like this one. I have wanted to find something that would address the errors of this particular belief system but without the arrogant attitude many others have had. This is one book that will be recommended to those who have not been able to see the errors of the "Toronto Blessing" and the charades of the Pensacola/Brownsville "Revival". Ted Brooks writes with understanding and compassion for those who are caught up in this deception. I urge you to read this book.

This book confirmed many of the concerns that I had about my own church. Ted Brooks is honest and courageous for re-examining his beliefs based on the Word. It is a must-read for Christians of any denomination.

Guaranteed To Be Hauled Out At Every Gathering At Your House

As Mr. Brooks says in the Foreword "nothing brings back memories like a song." And in this large 8 1/2 x 11 (and just over an inch thick) volume he gives you a week-by-week listing of the Top 10 songs from 1930 to 1980, most of it based upon Your Hit Parade listings.

Each year is preceded by a thumbnail sketch of the 12 months in question, ranging from music to politics, movies, radio, TV, social events, crime, and wars. Want to know the # 1 song the day you were born? In my case it was Please Be Kind the week of May 7 to 14, 1938. Note that there are no artists shown beside each song, as it's the song itself he focuses on. Besides, it wasn't uncommon throughout most of the period covered in this book to have up to 8 versions of any given song going at the same time. For example, Please Be Kind was a # 1 for Red Norvo, # 12 for Bob Crosby and # 14 for Benny Goodman.

How about the # 1 song the day JFK was assassinated, November 22, 1963. It was I'm Leaving It Up To You. December 7, 1941? Tonight We Love. Over The Rainbow was on top the day Germany invaded Poland and started WW II. And on July 20, 1969, the day Armstrong stepped onto the Moon, Close To You was riding the top.

Just a fun book to have in your library.

Elston Brooks was a reporter and later theatre and movie reviewer for the our paper, the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram for many years...he was a local boy. His first book was called Don't Dry Clean My Black-Jack, about his experiences as a crime reporter, his first assignment, at a very young age, at the Star-Telegram.
Popular music was one of his great interests and he wrote many columns listing the top songs for that week, in a particular year. This book was a natural out-growth.and is fascinating to anyone who remembers the songs from the War years onward.
Sadly, Elston died about fifteen years ago, just fifty something, as I remember.
He and his book are well-remembered in Ft. Worth.

This is a comprehensive guide to flyfishing. Not only does it include fly classifications, items you'll need to flyfish successfully, and lessons on technique, but it also includes many anecdotal stories that anyone would find fun and interesting to read. There is something for everyone in this book, fisherperson or not.

I am 18. I read this book after I saw it gathering dust on a back shelf at my school library. Dr. Evans is an extremely talented writer, his intellect and humour make the book a page turner- I read the book in just four days- and in the realm of academic/nonfiction/informational books, thats quite a rare feat.

A MUST read for anybody with an interest in Scientology or new age religious phenomena.

Aerobics for your head, less ideological than one expects.

Upon first reading, skepticism looms overhead, fat black rainclouds of doubt shadow the land. The ray of sun is: that no single opinion dominates this book, that it is refreshingly diverse. Anarchists in this volume emerge as political freethinkers, people of a courageous honesty who debate and exchange powerful ideas on the topics concerning social beings. When closing the book, wonder is in the wind...one ponders Mencken's germane analogy of politics to religion and the poplular participation of the masses in the exercise of control.

For Anyone with an Interest in the Intellectual History of American Libertarianism
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-29
This book is a collection of articles from Benjamin Tucker's magazine, _Liberty_. The entirety of Liberty's contents has since been made freely available online, but for those who are just interested in reading a representative sample, by way of introduction, or who might be more comfortable reading ink on paper, then the anthology contained in this book will certainly fit the bill.

The articles are broken down by subject, and cover such topics as the political theory of anarchism (and how it compares to Marxism and Liberalism), the "labor problem", free banking, intellectual property, free love, children, and various ideas on acceptable tactics for spreading anarchist ideas. Anyone confused by the notion of "Libertarian Socialism" will find plenty of food for thought in these pages.

Aside from Tucker, some of the other writers include John Beverley Robinson, Victor Yarros, John Badcock Jr., Gertrude B. Kelly, and Joseph A. Labadie.

A MUST for everyone! A great resource for therapist/counselors

I got this book as part of my counseling masters course (MFT) and I must say IT IS THE BOOK for therapist, business people or ANYONE who wants to improve how they communicate with others. My husband sometimes refers to it when he comes by friends who need help in the peoples skills (shy types). Even the most experienced communicator can learn new things! I was AMAZED by the examples, conceptualizations and just the wealth of information.

Everyone should know these skills!

This book should be required reading for everyone, regardless of field or relationship status. If you encounter a friend, relative, or stranger with something on their mind, this book shows you the steps you can take to help that person find the solutions to their own problems, a skill we all have within us. I use the skills in this book as a psychology student, a parent, and someone in long-term relationships with family, friends, and loved ones. If you can't afford the new copy, find an old one. This book will improve how you connect with others tremendously!

So colorful! Plentiful examples of practical applications, luxurious pristine diagrams and the wildly formatted pages brings the reader back to the middle school textbook yrs. The writing isn't very involved or through, so this would be best for a HS intro chem text, but probably too simplistic for college students. Examples and problems given are in following with the text and provide no stunningly difficult challenges, but rather just the right amount and level of practice. Just a fun, youthful, simple chem text.

Great introductory text but needs flow chart corrections.

The textbook is a wonderfully written and easy to understand. However, I take exception to the egregious misuse of flow charts. The error occurs in Chapter 5, figure 5.1. If the textbook were not a science book one could understand the lack of formality. However, it is a science textbook directed toward beginning students, as stated in the preface. I believe therefore, it would represent a huge improvement to the efficacy of the book if the flow charts reflected formal Boolean logic.

A clear and concise approach to the essential information necessary for the student pilot. I often referred to this book during my training. It gives clear and well explained examples utilizing real world aviation problems. The section on weather is excellent for primary training as well as a reference.

This book covers all topics relevant to private pilot training without beating any subject to death. The excellent graphics and pictorial examples help to make semingly complex topics simple. I think this book is an indispensable resource for any student pilot. Particularly useful is the section on cross country flight planning which brings all of the stages of flight planning together in a good example of a cross country flight.

Very effective learning tool

I have been self studying aviation and all that it entails for some time now. Initially started buying all sorts of reading material. Soon learned I could spend a small fortune in just books alone. Some aren't very good, others are strictly technical, in short not what I needed.

This book may seem pricey to the uninitiated; don't let it throw you. The information provided under one cover is very concise and intuitive. It is not meant to be the end to all study and info gathering. Yet, it touches on most areas of flight knowledge. You'll learn how to use and interpret the E6-B flight computer, how a good flight plan is put together, FAR's, AIM...and just what are all those charts associated with navigation? Not meant to be the final word on knowledge, you'll also be provided with references to other publications and reading material.

I think you'll agree.

Jade Carrington was not left with much choice when one of the King's men attacked her. She knew the only way to defend herself was to kill her attacker. Now Jade must face her punishment. She was to be auctioned as a slave.

Matthew Hunter knew that he would pay whatever it took to win Jade. Unfortunately, Matt was not the only one that wanted Jade. The Frenchman that Matt outbid had every intention of having Jade whether he won the auction or not. Matt and Jade rode deep into the wilderness where they not only had to stay hidden from the Frenchman, but also from the Indians who were planning an attack of the white people.

Matt and Jade face many dangers as the struggle to survive in the wilderness and at the hands of the enemies. Their strength, honor, and love get them through the worst. The story of Matt and Jade is about survival and so much more. The danger keeps you on edge from page to page. This is a book I do not hesitate to recommend.

i love this book and i recommend it, it has lots of action. and i love matt and jade they are great characters. i do have one problems. The way the Indians were portrayed in the book is awful. i know they had good reason to hate the white people, i might not agree that its honorable to kill a white man to bring yourself honor. but my problem was that they showed the indians as if they were ALL savages and that is NOT true. in the book all the indians worked together against the whites, and there were many indians who were peaceful and did not fight whites unless they were attacked by them. It doesnt matter your sex or race there are bad people in all colors just as there are bad indians there are bad whites and blacks. your color has nothing to do with it. But despite the unfair way the indians were portrayed it was a great bok

Java books nowadays tend to be mammoths. You nearly break your arm lifting them off the shelf. But Paul Wang's rather slender book still packs a wallop and delivers excellent content in tons of very readable examples. You'll learn about neat, arcane topics like using Java to write CGI server programs and all sorts of things about network sockets. There are very few errors and the typefonts are especially large and readable. The only detraction, which isn't Dr. Wang's fault, is that the cover is too thin and flexible. This wonderful book deserves a hardcover!
