I bought this at Amazon.com from an Awesome Deal I found on DailyTool.com. I've been using this book for two semesters even
though this is not the current edition. I have no problem doing the homework from this book and getting good grades. :) It's
a lot cheaper than the current edition one.
It's a calculus book for Christ's sake!

This book is so good I never did any of the homework for the class it was for, only studied the night before each test, and
pulled an honest-to-God straight A in the class. But this is calculus. If the text weren't so damn expensive I would have
burned it in effigy. The book has nice pictures and the business-based questions are mind-numbingly easy. The science questions
blow. If you don't like science, this will re-affirm your feelings. And don't forget that the answers to the odd problems
are in the back. Just the answers though, but they still help. Supposedly this book has a suppliment and a CD to it, but
I never monkeyed around with that. Didn't even purchase it, come to think of it...

A Very Important Contribution to the Rule of Law Promotion Field

This book is an important contribution to the rule of law promotion field. The book particularly distinguishes itself in that
it combines an understanding of the academic debate with the on-ground reality of establishing or rebuilding a system of justice
in a war-torn area. Very few books, articles, or other publications manage to explore rule of law promotion with both perspectives
in hand. The authors are to be applauded for performing this balancing act and providing the public with such a useful blend
of information and analysis.
In fact, I have found this book to be so useful that I now use it as a core text in a class on rule of law promotion, which I teach in law school. While the text addresses a number of legal issues, I believe it to be accessible to non-lawyers who are interested in understanding, and perhaps working, in the rule of law promotion field. On the topics covered, this book captures accurately the challenges, opportunities, and limitations of the field as it is today.

A look at Building a Government After Invasion

This book comes at a particularily appropriate time. It has become very clear that the administrations of the major powers
are operating at the limits of their capabilities in the area of peacemaking after conflict.
It seems that there was a string of what have to be considered real successes: Japan and Germany were out bitter enemies during World War II, yet after the war, what has to be considered enlightened supervision totally changed their governments to democracies reflecting the will of the people and making them good neighbors. South Korea is another example.
Then a series of bloodbaths occurred. Perhaps a hundred wars since then, with perhaps a hundred million people killed. Are we to allow more 'holocausts' in Haiti, Rwanda, and on and on.
This book is the report of law professors in U.S. law schools, but professors with experience on the ground in Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, East Timor, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Iraq. ==These are not subjects that were unknown in our Government before the Iraq/Afthanistan invasions, but the level of the difficulty in establishing working governments certainly seems to have been minimized.
This book is an important contribution to thinking about the problems now being faced in Iraq.

This book offers clinical critiques of actual cases using a teaching format which defines each case presented with the type
of therapy theory employed by the therapist. My personal favorite is chapter 8, "Fat Lady" by Irvin D. Yalom. It is existentialism
at its brutally honest best, and shows clearly the human side of the therapist's countertransference and growth through that
countertransference. I found this book to be quite an asset for understanding the practical differences between the various
counseling theories. It greatly compliments and illustrates the theories in a very readable context.

Essential to Developmental Psychopathologists

Review Date: 2008-08-25
This casebook provides a practical approach to learning about Developmental Psychopathology. A number of disorders are discussed,
such as learning disabilities, elimination disorders, conduct disorders, and substance abuse. Each chapter features a different
case, and for each case, the author describes the symptoms, assessment, risk factors and maintaining variables, developmental
aspects, and treatment. The author has also contributed discussion questions at the end of each chapter to ensure full comprehension
of the disorder at hand.
In addition to the common (and not-so-common) classifiable disorders, there are three "mixed cases", featuring symptoms from a variety of disorders. These cases are effective in educating the reader on how to treat vague cases.
While I purchased this book as a requirement for a Developmental Psychology course, I still reference it regularly and find it captivating and compelling. Really, this book is a must for anyone interested in Developmental Psychopathology or Psychology.

THIS IS A VERY TOUCHING BOOK OF CASE STORIES ABOUT CHILDREN WITH DISORDERS. EACH CHAPTER IS A DIFFERENT CASE STORY DEALING
WITH CHILD PSYCHOPATHOLOGY. THE STORIES ARE SOMETIMES SAD BUT REALLY WILL OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE TERRIBLE TRAMA MANY OF THESE
CHILDREN HAVE TO GO THROUGH GROWING UP. TAKING A LOOK AT THE ENVIRONMENT THE CHILDREN LIVE IN, THE WAY THEY ARE TALKED TO
AND THE OTHERS ARE TALKED TO IN THE HOUSE, MAKES A PERSON REALIZE THAT OFTEN THE PROBLEMS WE SEE IN CHILDREN ARE ACTUALLY
THE CAUSE OF THEIR PARENTS.
EACH CHAPTER HAS A SECTION ON ASSESSMENT, TREATMENT, ETC., FROM THE THERAPIST POINT OF VIEW. IT REFERS TO THE DSM-IV AND LIST THE CRITEREA FOR DIAGNOSIS.

I've used this text book to hone and review my basic math skills. It happened to also be a good review and reference book
for the GMAT exam if you have the extra time to study.
If you do all of the section excercise problems you can really become good at all of the individual topics.
It's also a good book if you're weak at certain basic math skills such as decimal conversion to fractions, square roots, reducing fractions, exponents and radicals, polynomials, solving quadtratic equations by factoring and other basics.

I am a college student taking an Enviromental Science class that uses this text book. All the things you will need or want
to know about the Earth's sustainable enviroment and how it shapes our lives is not enough to learn in one semester or quarter,
but the author G. Tyler Miller JR. does a great job of condensing a LOT of important information into this text.
One of the great things is that the author invites the students who read his text to send him comments or ask him questions. Miller openly admits in the text that he thinks enviromental science is the most important thing you will learn in your lifetime. It dictates your health; the kind of water you drink and how your food is grown and what is in the air you are breathing right this moment. From how hazardous waste, soil management all the way to the path of sustainability this book has pretty much everything you want to know about the enviromental sciences (albiet condensed). It's even printed on recycled paper.

The Charioteer of Delphi opens with by introducing us to a 13-year-old would be charioteer name Scopas. He has come from
Delphi to Ostia on the recommendation of Lupus' mother in the hopes he can find a job with one of the racing factions in Rome.
Scopus is a bit unusual in that he communicates better with horses than he does with people. Like Nubia he can tell the mood
and read the mind of animals. Scopus not only get his change with the Green faction but presents a mystery for Flavia: a horse
named Sagitta has disappeared.
Fortunately, for Flavia and company her father has to be away so they (and we) go back to Rome where the races for the Ludi Romani are about to be held. In Rome, we join Senator Cornix's household, including the delightful Sisyphus. The senator has his own seats at the Circus Maximus and is a huge supporter of the Greens. Along the way we meet a rather helpful one-legged beggar, who provides a clue to the finding of Saggita, and Urbanus the racing master of the Greens. Sagitta is found by the four detectives who claim the reward but it was all too easily and Flavia believes there is another more complex mystery yet to solve.
Caroline Lawrence provides magnificent and well-researched chariot races that will be eye-openers for those who think the file film Ben-Hur shows an actual ancient chariot race. The diagram of the Circus Maximus at the front of the book is very helpful in determining where the characters are at times in the book. The writing of the races is exciting and realistic. This book is among the highlights of the series and one that you can't put down.
