Very good book for Accy 101

Most students in introductory accounting will become users not preparers of accounting information. Many accounting programs have altered the introductory course to stress the interpretation and application of accounting numbers and to deemphasize the mechanical, bookkeeping aspects of financial accounting. Understanding the cincpetual issues from a user's perspective has become the focus of these programs and some schools even teach little or no debits and credits. The question is not whether accounting programs should teach their majors bookkeeping; instead, the issue cneters on determining the best place in the curriculum to teach these issues. schools that adopt a user-friendly approach to accouting 101 might attempt to push these topics to intermediate accounting that covers these mechanical topics. This book is wonder for this purpose, providing the mechanics of bookkeeping and introducing the reader to accouting information system. The text also introduces the student to auditing, both its goals and its elementary priciples. Particularly, this text is packaged with a CD-ROM containing FINANCIAL ACCOUTIUNG TUTOR software, which is an innovative, self-paced tutorial that uses interactive problems and graphical tools to help students understand the logic underlying financial accounting concpets and procedures. Highly recommend

I truly believe that this is one of the the best works I have ever read and I do read a great number of books. I can not say if this book should be called fiction or non fiction, I can say that it was real to me.
I came to this site today to find this book as a gift for a friend who is just starting out on a (hopefully) long term investment of love and commitment, her wedding.
If you have ever felt a little lost,a little lonely and wondering if your soulmate was out there also a little lost, a little lonely and trying to find you. This is a book you should read.

A delightful fantasy about contract bridge
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2005-01-12
Those of us who have read The Bridge World for the past few decades may remember the hilarious articles about the bridge aventures of Ernst Theimer's "Australian expert," Andy MacThick. These articles (and a few more) have been collected into this book.

The stories are a funny sidelight to what the book is all about, namely the bridge hands. Still, just as one remembers the bridge characters in Simon's "Why You Lose at Bridge" or in Mollo's "Bridge in the Menagerie," it is tough to forget some of the characters in this book, whether they be the wise Weston, Norton, and Easton or the, um, imps (Olite, Udent, and Ossible). But there is a difference among the levels of play in these books. In Simon's book, the play is atrocious. In Mollo's, the play is a little better, and the hands are more amusing. In Theimer's, the play is pretty good at worst, and impossibly good at best.

Does it improve one's bridge to struggle with hands such as these? I think it does. None of us are going to see all the fine points and we'll rarely if ever get any of his hands perfect (and the author doesn't give anyone much credit for coming up with a second-best line). But there are still valuable lessons in these amazing hands. In any case, whether you want to improve your Bridge or just have fun reading about it, this is a great book.

Each season of the year and each time of life is a cause for celebration. A WWII Rarity, A Real, "Definitive" Account
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-10
"Definitive," is not a word to be used lightly, especially in published works of history and biography. Yet publishers still churn out books dealing with these two categories and use "definitive," quite lavishly.

Despite the mostly brazeness with which the term is used, occasionally there comes along a book that covers its subject so well, so thoroughly that no other term but "definitive," can be used to describe it. "The Bridge at Remagen," is such a book.

Ken Hechler's sole published work on World War II, is the first and last word of the U.S. Army's surprise capture of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen, allowing the Allies to pierce the Rhine, the last natural barrier they had to overcome before moving on to the heart of Hitler's rapidly crumbling Third Reich. Hechler himself was uniquely qualified to write the book. He was near Remagen when the bridge was captured so he quickly went there and interviewed the key American participants. The war ended, Hechler went home and pursued a career in politics. During the 1950's, he found his notes and decided to get the rest of the story. He interviewed the German personnel involved (nearly a decade after the war's end) and published this book as a Ballantine original. It has never gone out of print since it's initial publication in 1957. What better testimony can there be of this book's accomplishment?

As to the book itself, it's a tight, fast moving piece of historical writing. It's an even rarer work of military history: an actual page turner. Mr. Hechler is a superb narrator and lets the facts and the participants tell the story. He only offers his opinions near the end of the book where he tells the reader that the Ludendorff Bridge's capture certainly hastened the end of the war (in hindsight, how couldn't it?). His opinions are reasonably stated and well argued. I finished the book in two days. Had I not had a 2 year-old daughter, I would have read it in one.

With his one book Hechler's "The Bridge at Remagen," is a rare achievment in World War II bibliography; an actual definitive account.

This book is not intended as a replacement for orthodox medicine, rather is a text-book for the study of modern Bio-Energetic (functional) medicine and Chinese medicine and will serve as a bridge between the two.

The general public may also find this book easy to read and of interest. The author believes that an integrated approach in medicine, using the best of alternative medicine and orthodox medicine is always in the best interest of the patient. The patient must consult a trained and licensed physician of holistic medicine to best evaluate and manage their health problems.
