Dr. Who: The Third Doctor Handbook is a wonderful read.Review Date: 2002-08-06
The Third Doctor Handbook is a great addition to any Doctor Who fans' collection. It also features an introduction by the Third Doctor himself, the late Jon Pertwee, written in April 1996, a month before he passed away. Published in 1996, this was the fifth volume in the Doctor Who series of handbooks.
A fantastic reference book for any "Doctor Who" fan!Review Date: 1999-04-02
Personally, I wish the book had included more information on the discoveries/recoveries of lost Pertwee episodes, as well as their restoration to color; since, the stories behind these are very fascinating.
Overall, this is a very well researched volume; and, I highly recommend this book as well as the rest in the series.

HeimatReview Date: 2006-01-03
Hermann's son Paul and his daughter-in-law became enchanted with the house at Potsdam. During World War II the house served as a library for the Nazis and later as a hospital for wounded Russian soldiers. Paul Wallich committed suicide in 1938. The house was in the Russian sector. During the war three servants stayed in the house. Afterwards, in East Germany, the remaining servant was ordered to leave.
Next the house was used as a kindergarten, such use lasting for some forty years. There were five day a week boarders, the children of socially irresponsible citizens. After the wall went up, the director of the kindergarten began to scheme to leave the country. In 1961 barbed wire went up, seemingly overnight.
The bridge, the Glienicke Bridge, near the house became famous for the exchange of spies. The bridge had first gone up in 1660. Structures near the house were torn down to give the guards a better view in the border zone. The East German childcare system became vast as childbirth was encouraged and it was necessry for mothers to work.
The books shifts its focus from the kindergarten director to a young teacher, Ulrike. Ulrike was friends with Wolfgang, a Marxist dissident who followed a sort of socialist third way. (In East Germany a third of the citizens had Stasi files.)
The night the wall fell Ulrike and her husband were at home with friends playing Irish music. The following day Ulrike walked to her school amid euphoric people. Afterwards the first few weeks were dreamlike. Ulrike and her husband visited the West. Reunification took place in October 1990. Earlier there was a currency union. There were Trabi jokes. Ossies and Wessies were not getting along with each other.
Return of property became a central and contentious debate after unification. Claims started to arrive by the tens of thousand for property lost between 1933 and 1945. What belonged to whom became a matter of central importance. One of the Wallich sons, Henry, had been at Yale and had been on the Federal Reserve Board. His daughter, Christine, was interested in the house at Potsdam. Land registries became artifacts of a capitalist past in East Germany after 1950. The Nazis had kept meticulous records of the deportation of Jewish families.
There were very old trees on the property of the Potsdam house. A scholar sought information on the gardens' original design. The scholar of landscape architecture found the plans of Gustav Meyer. Dirk Heydemann published a one hundred fifty page paper on the garden's design. The Wallich heirs did get their property returned to them. The house is in a state of extreme disrepair. The Wallichs are considering offers to sell the property to developers. The go-go time of real estate fortunes in the early nineties in the vicinity of Berlin has passed.

The House At The Bridge encapsulizes succinctly the emotions of change
that I, and others, saw and felt during Germany's paradigm shift of
politics and society. This story isn't just about a house, but of
families and a country in transition. Ms. Hafner cleverly uses the
house as a common thread to tell the history behind the house's
inhabitants and the political changes that effected them. The
comparisons between (former) East and West Germany are poignant and
real. Any history lover, travel buff or architect(professional or
amateur) will be pleasantly surprised by the story this house tells.

The Complete Life of Evan Roberts 1878-1951 - Excellent !Review Date: 2005-08-22
Generations later, the questions persist: What motivated Evan Roberts? What was his family background like and how was he prepared for his mission? Did he ever marry? Did he go on to pastor, become a missonary, or a writer? After the revival, did he in fact backslide or lose his mind altogether?
This book answers these and even more vital questions that reveal the anatomy of a genuine, earth-shaking revival - and the demands it places on its human conduits.

Kate Bridges
May 2007
Harlequin Historical
Kate Bridges has struck gold with her most recent release, Klondike Doctor. She interlaces her story around her setting and brings both alive. Her imagery is flawless and lends a special touch that drives her readers to yearn for more. Ms. Bridges' Mounties are the sexiest heroes, extra yummy. Add in the fact that each of them has a compelling tale and you get a book worth devouring late into the night. Who needs sleep when you can have the pleasure of reading a sensually perfect book? Your dreams could not be better.
Sergeant Colt Hunter is the commanding lead for a special group of Mounties. Their objective is to find and bring down a cunning ring of thieves that is plaguing the trails leading to the gold rich Klondike, specifically Dawson City, Yukon. It is a mission chuck full of danger with no room for mistakes. They plan to pose as brothers taking a chance on making their fortune transporting essentials goods to sell to the gold miners. Basically luring the thieves into a trap, this is a perfect plan until Miss Langley forces herself into his "family." He knows she will jeopardize not only their preparations and lives but also his peace of mind. However, the headstrong woman is determined to go where no genteel lady should go. Since she is the daughter of his boss, there is no way he can refuse to help her reach the Klondike safely.
Dr. Elizabeth Langley is going to the Klondike no matter how Colt feels about it. She will prove herself capable of being more than a doctor for the society ladies of Vancouver. Colt is just like everyone else, thinks of her as "Miss Elizabeth." No one, not even her family, can understand why it is so important for her to be a true doctor. In the Klondike, they needed medical care. Even the men would come to her for help. Her skills and knowledge will finally be put to the test. All she has to do is convince Colt she can play the part of his "sister" despite his doubts. They do not have a pleasant past history. Her meddling has caused him some pain but he will just have to get over it. Besides, going to Dawson City to be a real doctor was not her only reason. Elizabeth has to find the truth out about the secrets her uncle whispered on his deathbed. Once on the way though, neither one, Colt or Elizabeth, is able to completely hide the passion that incontinently flares between them. Can they continue to hide their attraction from everyone? Will they blow their cover of being siblings and put the mission in jeopardy? Only by reading the book will you find out.
I am enchanted by Elizabeth's verve for life. She practically leaps from the pages and drags you back into her story. Colt, on the other hand, makes your heart melt while wishing he was the one grabbing for you. Kate Bridges is a master when it comes to writing. Canada comes alive and its history becomes a daring mix of bravery and strength worthy of a great romance. I am definitely looking forward to more Klondike books from Ms. Bridges.

having to travel with a troop of Mounties who are heading there incognito
to find and capture thugs who are robbing the miners. The daughter of a
government minister, and a newly graduated physician, Elizabeth is used to
the good things in life. She knows the trip to the Klondike will be
difficult, but she has to get there to discover if her uncle's deathbed
confession also involved her fiancé, Gerard, another doctor. Using the
excuse that she's visiting her grandfather, Elizabeth will deal with the
consequences when she arrives in the north.
Sergeant Colten Hunter of the North-West Mounted Police had hoped never to have to deal with Elizabeth Langley again. As her father's body-guard, Colt was well aware of the lovely Elizabeth, especially after she interfered with his plans to marry the elder Langley's kitchen maid. Now he's stuck with Elizabeth, at least until they get to the Klondike where he can hand her over to Gerard. He forces her to agree to his travel plans. She will pretend to be the younger sister of the band of brothers, the "Blades" who are heading north to find gold. And she can't tell anyone she's a doctor.
It's not an easy journey during gold rush fever. All sorts of unsavory as
well as unprepared characters are hurrying to the north country. The
"Blade" family is well stocked with provisions, including crates of
sausages and apricots which they plan to sell. Colt wants them to appear to be a modest family who just wants to stake their claim like everyone else. It's not so simple, however, when lawlessness and criminal behavior crop up every step of the way, not to mention people falling ill or getting injured. It is difficult to blend in, but it's the only way Colt
thinks they can weed out the group of crooks robbing people. And then there is Elizabeth - stubborn, outspoken, and incredibly lovely. How will Colt deal with his feelings for her?
KLONDIKE DOCTOR is another of Kate Bridges excellent tales of the growth of the Canadian west. The first book of her Klondike Gold Rush series,
KLONDIKE DOCTOR is filled with adventure and a growing romance set in the
wild, untamed northwest where people of every description are hoping to
find their dreams, or take those of others. Elizabeth is a determined young woman with a good head on her shoulders who is confused by her feelings for Colt, all the while focusing on her immediate goal of clearing her family's name. All man, Colt has his own job to do, but pretending to be Elizabeth's brother isn't always easy. The "Blade" brothers are excellent, strong, mostly silent secondary characters who watch the by-play between Colt and Elizabeth with both concern and amusement. Saint, the dog who attaches himself to them, is a wonderful diversion. There are villains, good-hearted fellow travelers, and other colorful folk who drift in and out of the story, but the best parts are the interactions between Colt and Elizabeth.
Don't miss this exciting, page-turning tale. And look for the next in the
Klondike Gold Rush series. I know I'm looking forward to Colt's brother,
Luke's story in KLONDIKE WEDDING coming in September!
fabulous bridge to late nineteenth century Canada Review Date: 2007-05-02
However, Colton is even more upset with himself for having non-sisterly thoughts about his ward. On the trail, they face danger from nature and a nasty felon, but it is their feelings that both fear. As they fall in love and he learns to respect her medical prowess, her fiancé Dawson refuses to let Elizabeth go.
Kate Bridges returns her fans to the late Victorian age in Canada with a fabulous action-packed road thriller. No one writes about the Canadian wilderness and the sexy North West Mounted Police like Bridges. Her heroes are the strong, silent type, and it's simply delightful to watch them fall in love with her headstrong heroines. Not only is the romance wonderful, the unique backdrop adds another fascinating dimension to a terrific story. The exciting story line stars two "siblings" whose skirmishes make for a fun tale of love. However, the superstar in this vivid historical, as with the previous Bridges to the late nineteenth century (see THE COMMANDER) is Canada circa 1890s.
