This book is a must for collectors of ridiculous propaganda and general oddities. Great for the coffee table, or for reading on the bus if you don't want the person next to you to try to talk to you. I especially enjoyed the part about the legal rights of the deceased future frozen. Totally five stars for camp value.

"Cryonics: Reaching for Tomorrow" is necessary reading for anyone considering cryonic suspension as an alternative to the traditional "burn or bury" method of dealing with the dead. Though cryonics is by no means a proven technology (with no successful re-animations at this point), at the very least, it holds a possibility of extended life in the future. This concept was once regarded as science fiction or pseudo-science...but then again so was cloning. If you read this book, you will undoubtedly see the plausibility of cryonic suspension, and will perhaps think twice about how much you truly value your own life.

An editorial point-- this book should be listed with two authors: Michael Darwin and Brian Wowk.

The book was in GREAT condition! I used it for an oviparous animal lesson with my Kindergarteners, and it was just the perfect book. The children were trying to guess what animal might be in Daniel's egg. It went very well.

Brian Michael Bendis' prolific run on Daredevil begins it's final phase with Decalogue, as the series takes a different turn as Bendis reveals just what happened during Matt Murdock/Daredevil's reign as the Kingpin, and the effect it had on those living in Hell's Kitchen. Decalogue begins with a gathering of people, all of whom had been effected in one way or another since Daredevil declared himself the Kingpin. Ranging from petty shots at crime to something unbelievably horriffic, these people all have a reason to point a finger at the blind superhero, one of which knows more than he lets on, and knows quite a bit about Daredevil's history. What makes Decalogue so different from Bendis' previous arcs is that DD isn't the main character of the storyarc. Instead, he has become a recurring guest star or an urban legend as he is seen through the eyes of those telling their stories. It's a welcome change of pace for a mainstream superhero comic, and it's some of Bendis' best work since before he became Marvel's "it" writer. Alex Maleev once again supplies his usual great and moody art, and it's easy to see why he has been a fan favorite artist on the title for the past few years. All this sets the stage for the final storyarc from Bendis and Maleev, as things once again take a different turn for Daredevil and all those associated with him, and it also sets the stage for a bold new direction for the much maligned character.

Brian Bendis has been hit or miss for me in the past; New Avengers? not my thing; Ultimate Spiderman? Really good when it doesn't suck. But Daredevil... If I'm nor mistaken, it was Bendis's first superhero work, but it doesn't feel like it. It also doesn't really feel like a superhero comic. The fights feel earned; there aren't just slugfests every issue to appeal to the masses. There's as much, if not more, attention paid to Matt Murdock as there is to Daredevil, and his job as a lawyer. The trial of the White Tiger is absolutely enthralling, without the appearance of any masked antics. Don't get me wrong; superheroes are great, but I think Bendis understands the entirety of what is implied by that term. Another reviewer of Volume four said that Bendis is better than frank Miller; I agree. Miller was the tree, but Bendis is the forest.
And on top of that, the artist, Maleev, is, in my opinion, the best in the superhero comic industry right now. It's just so gritty, and real. I'm not of the opinion that there are, or have been, many good artists in the comic book industry. I don't understand the hype of Jack Kirby, Jim Lee looks like the comic equivalent to Motley Crue (All glamour), but I think Maleev knows what he's doing, and he does it well.
Read this book, enjoy it. It's the best you'll find from Marvel.

Daredevil Vol. 3 Hardcover Review

Well, I just picked this book up recently and I have to say, this book is just really, really good. This book collects another year's worth of Daredevil comics #38-50, and is the third in a series of great Marvel Daredevil hardcovers. This one picks right up where the last one left off (as you would expect) and is the best yet. This time around, you get to see a lot of what Daredevil does in his regular life as a reporter and as a ladies' man. As in Vol. 2, Matt Murdock spends more time out of his costume than in it, but that's OK, because what he is doing out of costume is still very interesting.

Murdock gets a new girlfriend, who is also blind, he tries to defend a costumed vigilante in the courtroom, he works to stop the Owl from rebuilding the Kingpin's empire and marketing a new drug, he gets some revenge on Bullseye (who really had it coming), and, finally, he has a truly epic confrontation with Wilson Fisk. I won't say more than that, as I don't want to give away too much. It's just a really, really good read, and I would love it if they would base a movie on this storyline.

Alex Maleev, again, provides the artwork in this collection, other than for a few courtroom issues, where a fill-in artist did the duties. Maleev's artwork is far better than the fill-in artist, and I'm coming to expect his stlye on this book. Maleev's artwork is growing on me. It's not at all what I'd want to see on JLA or X-Men or Hulk, but it fits Daredevil just fine. He is very meticulous in his own way, and I appreciate the work he puts into his signature style.

Did I mention that this is a really, really good book? Now go get it for yourself! You won't be disappointed.

Beautiful. These photographs are absolutely breathtaking. Not only do these 8 photojournalists capture the tragic atrocities that are occuring in the region of Darfur, Sudan -- they capture the soul of the people that are being ravaged.

I appauld the courage of these people and others who travel to this region of the world and other places of genocide and mass atrocities and begin to open the eyes of the rest of the world. We can change the course of this world, and it begins with amazing photographs like this book gives to raise awareness.

Thank you for making this book. It is a good way to explain my career choice to my family and friends when they don't understand why I'd put myself in harms way for a bunch of people in a town hundreds of thousands of miles away for no reason.

There is a reason, and this book illistrates that very clearly. We are humanity, we are all human.

For what started as a simple and very strange idea from a rather strange individual, Dead cat has evolved into an interesting annomoly. Here, like with Dead Cats Bouncing, we get to see him treated as a folk hero of old. The feeling while reading this is like you're sitting on the porch of the local five and dime with all these old fellers n ladies tellin lies on Dead Cat like he was John Henry or something. Each story has its own voice and each author is allowed to shine in their own way, using dead cat to express their veiw of this twisted little world of our or just have some fun. The price can be a bit frightening at first, but its the best $45 I've ever had spent on me.

Oh, and you get to poke Nyarlaothotep with a stick. Don't worry, he likes it. Dead Cat said so.

Dead Cat's Traveling Circus of Wonders and Miracle Medicine Show...And if you think the title is a mouthful, just wait until you see some of the story titles! I didn't have the pleasure of reading Dead Cats Bouncing so this is my intro, and what an intro it is! Take some of the finest horror writers around, both newcomers and established talents, and have them pen their stories about a rather straggly looking dead cat...who's very much alive...but still dead. Got the picture? First the roll call of writers contributing to this latest collection: Tim Lebbon, Gary A Braunbeck, Brian Hodge, Jeffrey Thomas, Linda D. Addison, Gerard Houarner, Trey R. Barker, Jack Haringa, Michael T. Huyck, Jr., Garrett Peck, P.D.Cacek, Michelle Scalise, Robert Rhine, Mark McLaughlin,Wrath James White, and Aaron Worley. Add to that art from GAK, Alan M. Clark, Erik Wilson, and Chad Savage, and this is one thrill ride of a book.

Dead Cat's Circus can't be, no, it won't be classified to any particular genre. That would not do it justice and the dead cat would not approve. Horror, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Adventure, and loads of comedy...it's all here and wrapped in a great hardcover package. The Dead Cat basically bounces from era to era, traversing time and space, generally wreaking havoc.

"Puss in Boots" finds the Dead Cat in Paris during Louie the XIV's reign and he becomes quite the swashbuckling feline and takes on a mean old Ogre with his usual, ahem...wit.

"Sweet Oblivion" takes place in Hell as a trio of souls, Patrick, Eleanor, and Wally, spend their days raising food for hulking, fat demons. When the Dead Cat bounces into hell, it gives the trio hope that they can find a way out.

Speaking of protracted titles, there is "Dead Cat Matches Wits with Ratnarokh, the Ultimate, Sentient Super-computer, on the Blood Red Planet of the Porn Bots" With just a few meows and purrs, Dead Cat soon has the super-computer overheating and ready to explode in its feeble attempts to analyze this strange creature.

Perhaps the most gruesome story is "Bounce Back" which finds Dead Cat trying to figure out why other creatures don't bounce back from the dead like he did. He takes to watching a man in a dingy apartment as he murders and beheads several hookers until he picks the wrong hooker to tangle with. Perhaps Dead Cat can see if this new meat puppet will bounce back!

Dead Cat's Circus is simply a blast to read. Like a jam session, this is a fantastic group of writers having one heck of a great time. Worth every penny!

Deadly Wish is a book that I really enjoyed. From the beginning you kind of had a feeling that there might be more to this suicide than the author was letting you know. It gave the reader the expectation of the unexpected, which proved to be true. I especially liked the short chapters. You could always complete the chapter before you had to stop reading. This new author has a bright future in writing.

Deadly Wish is a good read. Fortunately, it's also a quick read because it's not easy to stop reading once you begin. As in his other books, the author paints very clear pictures with his descriptive wording and metaphors. This suspense story also includes unique twists, imaginative ideas, some strong emotional pulls and just the right touch of the paranormal. Read it! You'll enjoy it.

Soldiers are often the best of us. We honor them, we respect them and we look up to them. There is nothing more moving than seeing a brave soldier standing at the border of his/her nation with only one thought in his/her mind and heart... that as long as I am here, no will every harm my family, my people, my nation where I can practice my own beliefs. This book shows some of them at their jobs. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to see the human spirit and vigilance at it's best. Soldiers are the best of us, no matter what nation they belong to.

This is indeed a great effort by the authors. It revealed some of the exotic features of Pakistani Armed Forces. It unveiled some of those facts of Asian war strategies that were not yet discovered by the rest of the world. But this book needs to be updated half yearly due to the continuous change in the battle equipments and war planning in the Sub-Continent.

Delivered by Angels: a review

Review Date: 2008-02-09
Does God still intervene in the affairs of men? Can this intervention be earned by a man who is blessed as a result of it? How does a Christian man reconcile his faith with taking up arms against an enemy intent on killing him? What is life like for an American infantryman in Iraq? Is prayer important? These are a few of the questions and issues addressed in Delivered by Angels: God's Providence for an American Soldier in Iraq, co-authored by Specialist Brian Otis and his father, Pastor John Otis, and published by Triumphant Publications.

This book is essentially one man's chronology of God's saving action towards him during battle, juxtaposed with a biblical perspective of those same events. Countless books and narratives have been introduced to the world by men and women who have served in various degrees and importance in military conflicts throughout the history of the world. It's impossible for me to enumerate how many I've read, in addition to those that are in my own library. I can, however, count on one hand those that are as unashamedly and brazenly Christian as this book.

Brian Otis' story is straightforward and simple. It is full of faith, but still shows the angst of a Christian who has been commanded to kill. He reaches conclusions, but still describes the struggle to that end. He declares the glories of God, but not without the profound cost to one who has been engaged in combat.

Every Christian is a "work in progress", but what makes Brian's story unique, is twofold. First and foremost is his willingness to tell it-period. Many are the loved ones who never knew what their warrior witnessed and/or endured. They and their soldier have gone to their respective graves not knowing and not telling. Secondly, Brian's pilgrimage sets him apart from most "everyday" Christians in that most of us have not lived our faith on both sides of a working and functional gun barrel. This cannot be overstated.

This book is multi-dimensional. The questions that begin this review are a reflection of that. It is not a "Gospel tract", but boldly states the message. The reader will find combat action. There are lessons on the importance of prayer. Humorous anecdotes are sprinkled throughout the story, along with personal and Otis family biographical histories. One of my favorites is the story of James Otis, Jr., an important figure to the founding of our nation. The chapter discussing the biblical perspective on angels is short, but outstanding as an appendix.

Brian and John's presentation is also chronological, taking the reader from boot camp until he returned from Iraq. John is a teacher and preacher. His portion is consistent with that, but dovetails very nicely with his son's account. His passion for the Gospel, and the love he has for his son shines through. Brian is not a professional storyteller, but his tale is well-told and will not disappoint.

The reader will not get far past the cover, to find that my wife and I helped edit this book. I have read and re-read this story, agonizing over each "jot and tittle" and every turn of a phrase. Sometimes, in such a process, the story can lose it's "edge", but in my final read-through I still found myself choking back tears. This book will encourage the soldier who needs to know in Whose palm he is being held and kept safe. This book will encourage the soldier's loved ones, friends, acquaintances, and distant cousins of those acquaintances by clearly identifying the Owner of that palm, and reminding them of His precious promises.

Burt and Eklund have taken a good thing and made it better. The new edition of "Dentistry, Dental Practice, and the Community" maintains the attention to detail and liberal referencing that was found in the 4th edition, but it adds tables and charts that are easier to read and tighter organization of the chapters such that common topics flow together more readily. Congratulations on a job well done.

All other books like european books about the subject, are produced on a view embarassed for central, uniform and national health plans. This book make present in literature, the reality of many kinds of dental services delivery, like the state and private market. This aproach is more close with the real situation for most countries, speciality in plural societys.

For this reasons, that book is a powerfull toll for all Dentists interessed in knowing "how is" the actual basis that are building a future of our profession.
