I put down Prelude to War to start Brian Jensen's book. It's a great book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a terrific human interest story and it's interesting for Yankee fans, Yankee haters and non-sports fans alike.

Plain and simple, this book is just a lot of fun to read. While some of the stories of what happened to these once great ball players had me near tears, others had me laughing out loud. And still others had me shaking my head, wondering how some of these guys made it to the ballpark on game days. Jensen's easy-to-read style and dry humor that leaks through now and again makes Where Have All Our Yankees Gone a must have for any sports reader who wants to know what life is like once the lights go out.

The Yankees are a metaphor for America. They are the best of all time. People who do not like them feel that way just because they do not want one single team (or country) to be so much better than everybody else, which does not change the fact that they are. People who grow up in New York and still hate the Yankees are like liberals in America who still hate their country.

IF YOU COLLECT WHITING AND DAVIS FROM EARLY YEARS UNTIL NOW YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT THE HISTORY IN THE BOOK. I LIKED THE FACT THAT IT GAVE YOU INFORMATION ABOUT EACH ERA, OWNER AND HOW IT WAS CHANGED. IT IS LIKE STROLLING THROUGH TIME. IT DOES SHOW YOU WHAT THE VALUE IS FOR A PURSE IN GOOD CONDITION AND MINT. THE ONLY THING I WISH IS THAT IT LISTED PLACES THAT WOULD REPAIR THE PURSES OR SHOW PLACES YOU COULD ORDER PARTS.
IT IS GOOD FOR COLLECTING ANG SELLING IF YOU NEED AN IDEA OF HOW MUCH TO ASK OR OFFER.

I saw this book on a friends desk and shamelessly took it before he had a chance to read it. I have many php books on my bookshelf, too many. I can now remove quite a few and replace them with this book.
When I first glanced through this book, I was intrigued by the way it was laid out. There are 12 chapters covering many topics that php programmers should know about their language and how browsers interact with a web server using php. Each chapter has many sections that cover a specific topic and most have very useful code examples. The extra feature is a part labeled: "What can go Wrong?". This is a great time saver on how to deal with common issues that might come up when you are working on your php script and implementing the example code. Most of the issues have really good explanations of how and why something could go wrong. What makes this book a real keeper is that they have the "why" explanations. I've always hated it when books tell you to do something a certain way, but never go into any depth on WHY you should do it one way or another. This book has the WHY covered very well for a great number of the examples.
The style of the book makes it easy to read and learn from the examples. In my case, it makes it easy to pickup, read a few pages when I get the chance and then put it down again. I find it easy to pick up right where I left off and keep reading right on to the next example. I like the humor level too. Often authors can get a little too cutesy with their wit and humor. I find that to be a real turn off. William and Brian (The authors) do a great job of keeping the humor light and laughable.
I just made some room on my busy book shelf for this book of 76 time-saving, problem-solving php scripts. I hope my friend doesn't ask for it back...

'Wicked Cool PHP: Real-World Scripts That Solve Difficult Problems' is a fantastic PHP cookbook that is written exactly the way I like books to be written:
- it's fun to read and learn from
- content is broken up logically at the right points
- layout and design is a joy on the eyes and brain
- length is around 200 pages which is within the 2-3 (hundred) range that I like most books to be
Content is broken up over 12 chapters:
01. Basic script stuff
02. Configuring PHP
03. PHP Security
04. Form Fun
05. Text & HTML
06. Dates
07. Files
08. User and Session Tracking
09. Email Excitement
10. Image Tasks
11. Using cURL to talk to web services
12. Other Stuff
The audience for this book hits the rare area of ALL developers from the expert to the newbie to the weekend hacker. There are 76 scripts contained within that nearly anyone could find useful in any project.
I love No Starch books because they don't feel like reference materials, rather they package it in a fun way from the glossy cover to smart design. No Starch gets 'it' when it comes to what geeks want and PHPites you will WANT this book!!

This book is definitely a must have for anyone who plans to deploy a Windows 2008 (or even 2003) based Certificate Authority/PKI infrastructure. The author not only fully masters the subject, he also has found the rare balance between the necessary theory, legal aspects, discussing design aspects and diving into technical information. On top of that, the book contains an awful lot of real life scenario's and implementation examples.
So before you even start installing AD CS, read this book. You won't be disappointed.

The book also includes details of the Microsoft Certificate Lifecycle Manager (CLM/ILM 2007) product.

With the terrorist situation we face today this book is a must read. Not only is the story an exciting and revealing one, but the self-help section is invaluable. What would you do if a chemical, biological or even nuclear event occurred in your city, community, or even in your neighborhood? How would you protect your loved ones? One of the first things you will need is good information; and if you were lucky enough to have read this book before any WMD catastrophe you will have what you need, and you will know what to do!

How do you fight against capitalist war? To answer this question, you have to begin with the origins of these wars. If you think war comes from misunderstanding, or venial politicians, then you?d think international agreements could turn down the threats. Brian Grogan, a leader of Britain's Communist League, argues differently in this 1983 article. Conflicts among capitalist nations, and hostility to anticapitalist and anticolonial revolutions, come from the very nature of the imperialist system, and the direction of our fire has to be aimed at its source. This volume also contains two articles on the development of what socialists have called ?the aristocracy of labor?, a narrow, privileged section of the working class that serves as a base of support for the union bureaucracy and the capitalist system it supports.

The lead article in this issue of New International was written as the US was carrying out its bloody contra war in Nicaragua; just months before the US invaded Grenada; and during a time when Reagan called the Soviet Union the "evil empire" and built up the US nuclear arsenal. Ancient history? The Nicaraguan Revolution went down to defeat, Stalinism fell apart in Europe; but really, not a lot has changed. The US is at war in Afghanistan; it's threatening war again in Iraq; and now we have Bush's "axis of evil," just a slight change in wording. Once again, many progressive-minded people are confronting the question: how do you end war? This article gives a clear answer to this question which exposes a lot of the fake answers out there, such as, elect a Democratic President instead of a Republican; campaign for "peace," in general; or lobby Congressmen to stop producing more nuclear weapons. The article explains that the only road to lasting peace will be a working-class revolution worldwide. Anything short of placing the world's working-class majority at the center of this strategy is bound to fail. As the Enron and other scandals further erode many workers' faith in capitalism and as they begin to mobilize to defend their interests, the message of this book is more relevant than ever.

Although anti-American sentiment is widespread around the world, there remains a layer of relatively privileged workers who wave the flag of imperialism harder with the approach of war. Two of these articles analyze this social layer (which exists in every imperialist nation) and how it is used to transmit patriotic, pro-war sentiment within the working class. The lead article outlines how the working class can be led to fight as part of an international class against imperialism and its drive toward war and depression. The articles are clear, well-written, and absolutely relevant.

The ABC's of Character for People Around the World I had the honor of seeing this wonderful book prior to it going to press. I told the publisher, Dr. Trevy McDonald of Reyomi Publishing, that this book was a winner--and it is! The illustrations are so beautiful, and the prose is both educational and uplifting. My hope is that posters be made from each of the pages of the alphabet (hint, hint). My personal favorite page is the "letter P". I must get a poster print of that page! Character education is extremely important, and it's important to teach children while they're young. Every daycare center and early education program should have The ABC's of Character for People Around the World on their bookshelves, and teach their students from it.

The illustrations are outstanding and the message is Respect,Kindness,Encouragement,Love and Patients. Best of all the Children will love it and read it over and over again.
