This book is a good listing of the waterfalls in the North GA, Southern NC area. It provides photos for most, but directions, trail information, and descriptions for all major waterfalls in the area. If you enjoy waterfall hunting, I highly recommend this book.

Perspectives on the art of acting

Review Date: 2006-11-10
This is a valuable book for all the interviews and observations made by people who have worked and are working in the theatre. Their perspectives on the meaning and significance of acting as well as insights into their methodology are challenging and enlightening. Although not a "how to" book, the applications to one's art as well as "craft" are there for those who are already immersed in the theatrical process and open to "new" perspectives or even validation of one's existing views. For those not working in the theatre but fulfilling the necessary role of audience, and thus co-creators of the theatrical moment, the author gives a valuable insight into exactly what is happening in that space of time.

For actors and shamans alike

Dr. Bates paints a fascinating picture of actors as modern day shamans, and interviewed many actors, including Sir Lawrence Olivier, in the process. This is a must read for all serious actors, and for anyone interested in shamanic practices, it will also be very interesting.

Perspective of the Baby

As a mom, grandmother and social worker I found THE WAY OF THE BABY... a delightful change from traditional "How or What to" books.

Brian Hutchin's has taken the challenge of translating an historical work into a book that essentially provides the baby's perspecitive of a wide variety of moods, behaviors and "ways" that are integral to babies and anticipated "benchmarks" (of growth and development).

Mr. Hutchin's book is compelling often eliciting the "a-ha" response to daily actions both desired and not so...

I have gifted each of my children who are parents and Asian friends. All have found WAY OF THE BABY... delightful, charming and unique.

Great book for new parents!

As a new parent, I spent months of anticipation before the birth of my daughter. When she suddenly appeared on the scene, my life was turned topsy-turvy! I no longer had the autonomy of my previous years. I suddenly was under the control of my "little bundle of joy". Way of the Baby describes in detail how my little one became so powerful. The book combines philosophical insight and self-parody in a way that kept me smiling all the while. I strongly recommend this book for the new parents that are trying to make sense of their new "master"... better yet, buy for the expectant parents so they might ease into their new roles!

As a parent of 3 young children, I am often amazed at how out of hand things can quickly get while trying to take care of the kids. But in spite of it all, there is always that moment of reflection and satisfaction knowing how great the experience is to be able to have these great kids. This book hit the nail on the head in giving me an insight into how the babies gain mastery over me (humorously), but also gave me additional perspective to appreciate the experience and the knowledge and wisdom that I will truly miss these times once the babies have moved on. Bravo!

I originally purchased this book for a Poli Sci class and lost it sometime after the class. A few years later I desperately wanted to re-read certain portions ( turned out to be all of it ) and actually bought it again. While it's obviously a summarization of many political ideologies, the breadth of information is excellent.

I first read the book in POLSC 201: Intro to Political Theory. I found the book to be well written and easy to understand. I kept the book after the course was over and have since referred back to this book for many other classes. I recommend this book to all Liberal Arts and Social Science majors.

A wonderful story that integrates some of the most and least prominent references from the 20th century. Weaving tales that leaves you wondering where the fiction ends and the facts begin.

What the Psychic Saw is a fun, thrilling, emotional see-saw read. Filled with references to historical events that are, in turn, hilarious and dreadful, with facts that are unexpectedly relevant or arcane, the 20th century is described through a lense that help us see the importance of events we may have thought were ordinary. But there is nothing ordinary in the mind of this author as he dissects, with wit and imagination, meaning and forecast (perhaps) for our time. And its not too long, either.

Fun reading!

Plain and simple, this book is just a lot of fun to read. While some of the stories of what happened to these once great ball players had me near tears, others had me laughing out loud. And still others had me shaking my head, wondering how some of these guys made it to the ballpark on game days. Jensen's easy-to-read style and dry humor that leaks through now and again makes Where Have All Our Yankees Gone a must have for any sports reader who wants to know what life is like once the lights go out.

YANKEES ARE METAPHOR FOR AMERICA
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 19 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-08
The Yankees are a metaphor for America. They are the best of all time. People who do not like them feel that way just because they do not want one single team (or country) to be so much better than everybody else, which does not change the fact that they are. People who grow up in New York and still hate the Yankees are like liberals in America who still hate their country.

IF YOU COLLECT WHITING AND DAVIS FROM EARLY YEARS UNTIL NOW YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT THE HISTORY IN THE BOOK. I LIKED THE FACT THAT IT GAVE YOU INFORMATION ABOUT EACH ERA, OWNER AND HOW IT WAS CHANGED. IT IS LIKE STROLLING THROUGH TIME. IT DOES SHOW YOU WHAT THE VALUE IS FOR A PURSE IN GOOD CONDITION AND MINT. THE ONLY THING I WISH IS THAT IT LISTED PLACES THAT WOULD REPAIR THE PURSES OR SHOW PLACES YOU COULD ORDER PARTS.
IT IS GOOD FOR COLLECTING ANG SELLING IF YOU NEED AN IDEA OF HOW MUCH TO ASK OR OFFER.

'Wicked Cool PHP: Real-World Scripts That Solve Difficult Problems' is a fantastic PHP cookbook that is written exactly the way I like books to be written:

- it's fun to read and learn from
- content is broken up logically at the right points
- layout and design is a joy on the eyes and brain
- length is around 200 pages which is within the 2-3 (hundred) range that I like most books to be

Content is broken up over 12 chapters:

01. Basic script stuff
02. Configuring PHP
03. PHP Security
04. Form Fun
05. Text & HTML
06. Dates
07. Files
08. User and Session Tracking
09. Email Excitement
10. Image Tasks
11. Using cURL to talk to web services
12. Other Stuff

The audience for this book hits the rare area of ALL developers from the expert to the newbie to the weekend hacker. There are 76 scripts contained within that nearly anyone could find useful in any project.

I love No Starch books because they don't feel like reference materials, rather they package it in a fun way from the glossy cover to smart design. No Starch gets 'it' when it comes to what geeks want and PHPites you will WANT this book!!

***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I saw this book on a friends desk and shamelessly took it before he had a chance to read it. I have many php books on my bookshelf, too many. I can now remove quite a few and replace them with this book.

When I first glanced through this book, I was intrigued by the way it was laid out. There are 12 chapters covering many topics that php programmers should know about their language and how browsers interact with a web server using php. Each chapter has many sections that cover a specific topic and most have very useful code examples. The extra feature is a part labeled: "What can go Wrong?". This is a great time saver on how to deal with common issues that might come up when you are working on your php script and implementing the example code. Most of the issues have really good explanations of how and why something could go wrong. What makes this book a real keeper is that they have the "why" explanations. I've always hated it when books tell you to do something a certain way, but never go into any depth on WHY you should do it one way or another. This book has the WHY covered very well for a great number of the examples.

The style of the book makes it easy to read and learn from the examples. In my case, it makes it easy to pickup, read a few pages when I get the chance and then put it down again. I find it easy to pick up right where I left off and keep reading right on to the next example. I like the humor level too. Often authors can get a little too cutesy with their wit and humor. I find that to be a real turn off. William and Brian (The authors) do a great job of keeping the humor light and laughable.

I just made some room on my busy book shelf for this book of 76 time-saving, problem-solving php scripts. I hope my friend doesn't ask for it back...

This book is definitely a must have for anyone who plans to deploy a Windows 2008 (or even 2003) based Certificate Authority/PKI infrastructure. The author not only fully masters the subject, he also has found the rare balance between the necessary theory, legal aspects, discussing design aspects and diving into technical information. On top of that, the book contains an awful lot of real life scenario's and implementation examples.
So before you even start installing AD CS, read this book. You won't be disappointed.

This book is a significant and very worthwhile update on the 2003 version. The new edition is considerably larger than the previous one and covers the new features of Windows Server 2008 PKI including the new Advanced Cryptography Support (Suite B), OCSP and SCEP (among others).
The book also includes details of the Microsoft Certificate Lifecycle Manager (CLM/ILM 2007) product.
This book is the best reference for Windows PKI.
