I think this book is a great read! The story is very interesting and keeps the reader coming back for more. I really liked how the author helped us get to know each of the characters; each character was developed well and I came to care about them and what was important to them. I would really encourage young people to read this book. While the book is highly enjoyable we learn some historical facts about Christopher Columbus as well. It would also be a great book for teachers to assign to their students to read, either for book reports or for summer reading. Parents who want their children to read, especially their boys, should go out and pick up this book! Your children won't want to put it down until they find out what happens at the end!

This is a great story for young readers. The story line focuses on the friendship and historical mystery experienced by two 6th grade boys. The book also offers some interesting historical facts about Christopher Columbus - not the typical history lesson found in text books. This made for not only an entertaining story, but an educational lesson as well. The book immediately pulls the reader in from the very beginning. As a parent, I think this is a wonderful book to encourage your kids to read, especially for boys. I think this would be a great summer read for kids.

My son has just turned two years old, and has recently been evaluated by Early Intervention for a possible speech delay. I checked this book out of the library since he is a real boys boy and loves CARS and trucks. Before this book however he had never said the word TRUCK, but now he says Truck (well....."Kuck" really) and it has become a favorite book of his. We have gotten him his own copy to cherish (it goes everywhere with...except the tub!) It was such a joy to hear him start to use new words and am crediting this book and Mr. Floca for inspiring him. I enjoy this book myself, it is a treat to have a book about trucks in which the illustrations are these lovely watercolor pictures as opposed to the more harsh illustrations usually in truck books. I have just one son but suspect that this book would be enjoyed by girls as well as boys and I really appreciate the fact that two of the five drivers are women!! THANK YOU MR. FLOCA!!!

This book is thoughtfully structured and illustrated. It is light on text but it unfolds a story nevertheless (and parents and children can add their own words and observations). Unlike some airport-themed books, it strives for recognizable accuracy. The illustrations are simple but not simplistic and cartoonish. If your child is a real truck connoisseur like mine, you will appreciate that the trucks themselves are faithfully represented and labeled, and their drivers look like real people (complete with their morning coffee and donuts).
Perfect for the young truck-enthusiast

I shared this book with a young friend, to watch his reaction as the story unfolds. It's supurb! The opening spread of a man and a boy hauling a heavy suitcase provided the first clue to what the "five drivers for five trucks" did every day. The drivers' teamwork, their varied genders and ethnicity, and the care taken in getting the airplane serviced and ready to fly are all well illustrated. Youngsters who have flown or visited airports will especially enjoy this book, and it would be a great addition to carry-on baggage for parents of younger children.

I looked at a number of Concorde books, and this one and Orlebar's Concorde Story stood out.
This one is easy to read, very informative, talks about the technology without getting too detailed and talks about some of the politics and difficulty without getting caught up on it.
It's black and white and medium format, so the Orlebar makes a nice color complement to it.
Enjoy

This book talks about the design of the aircraft and flight operations first. Then it goes on to describe flight testing and the history of the aircraft.
It is a special plane and it is flown in a special way. It is a must have for those curious about the concorde.

Throughout many books available for PowerBuilder today this one is more deeply and carefully covers all the details you will need from day to day operations. I've red over dozens of books and I think that this one the only one that is not tells you where to click, but teaches you how to build an application and logical design. I do hope that authors of the book (B. Smith and G. Schaad) will issue a newer version that will cover features implemented with PB 6.x and PB 7

Thank God for this book. Folland is the grand-master of my life. I'm a grad student in applied math, studying for qualifying exams, and this book has been extremely helpful to me because it is perfectly rigorous and also crystal clear. When I say Folland is The One, I am referring to The Matrix. This book is that good. His treatment of distributions (otherwise known as "generalized functions") is especially nice.

I've been asked to teach a course on Fourier analysis,I knew nothing on the subject so I took about 15 books on this subject and went over all of them. My conclusion was that Folland's book is the best!. He explain the theory yet never forget for a minute the intuitive side of the subject. The book contains almost all the important issues and notions of the subject. If you have a solid background in vector calculus and you know some basic facts about ODE this is a very good book to learn the subject from. Moreover the book give the reader some of the important motivations to the basic ideas of functional analysis such as generating functions distrbutions it gives the connection also between linear algebra and the basic ideas that lies at the foundations for understanding normed function spaces and more. Moreover the book draw the line , in a very elegant way, between functional analysis PDE and Fourier analysis. Main subjects are:Fourier series, orthogonal sets Fourier and Laplace transforms, convolution, generating functions,Green functions, and more. Very recommended!.

Concepts are not hidden under obscure mathematical notation: they are stated explicitly in plain english and illustrated with examples. I read a couple of other books on this topic (and PDE) without really understanding the subtleties. With this book everything becomes magically clear and obvious -as you read- and don't feel like you need take another course in real analysis to understand this topic. Bonus: you get solutions to exercices.

And, I will also add...from his picture on the back of the book, he is also quite good looking! Thanks Brian for the wonderful advice ;)

Gardening with Children is a must have for families with children that would like to garden. It has a large number of ideas that can make gardening fun for the children (and the parents too). I bought the book after a favorable review in AHS's The American Gardener. I wish I would of had it when my children were small but they are grown. I plan to buy several more copies for Christmas for my children's families and gardening friends that have small children. I would also recommend it to pre-school and school-age programs that would like to introduce children to hands-on nature and science.

This is a wonderful book! It accompanies an exhibit of hundreds of Catlin's paintings held in Washington DC in 2002, and scheduled to travel to several other cities. The reproductions are superb (the best I've ever seen) - the colors are true, and the sizes are often full-page and sometimes double-page. A brief commentary accompanies each painting, and there are also lengthy essays describing Catlin's life, his time in Europe, and his connection with the Smithsonian.
I bought Letters and Notes on the Manners, Customs, etc at the same time that I bought this book, and I read the two of them together. The paintings are immeasurably enhanced by Catlin's comments and stories (he is a great story-teller). He explains what's happening in the crowd scenes (and it is sometimes hair-raising!), and he gives interesting background on the people shown in the portraits. Looked at in this way, the paintings really come alive. Very highly recommended.
