This is D. Brian Shafer's third novel in his series. It was as good as the two before it. This book spans the time after the death of Moses until Christ's birth. It is still written largely from the perspective of the angelic and demonic forces, as they watch the history of humanity unfold and are involved to the degree the Lord allows them. Their involvement is usually effected by the faith and prayers of man, as God releases them to become more involved. I remember parts of the novel concerning Joshua, David, Daniel, Samson, Rehoboam, Elijah, and the group of shepherds that the angels appeared to at Christ's birth. There are probably several other characters I've forgotten. Lucifer and his demons are still trying to stop God's promise from the garden--the one concerning the Seed who would crush Satan's head (Jesus).

In this book I didn't catch very much fictional license when the text was addressing Biblical events. Of course, the thoughts of the angels and demons were extrapolated from what we know of their nature, but I can imagine their thought processes flowing along the lines that Mr. Shafer took them.

The author continues to do a great job of showing how the demons worked through the religions of those times. This book, like the first two, would be great to give to someone who has barely read the Old Testament. It gives a great Biblical overview, alongside the fictional, yet insightful, thoughts and responses of the angels and demons.

This third book is also highly recommended! You won't be disappointed if you pick up this series.

I learned so much history from this book, as well as remembered previously learned stories from the bible. This book, and entire series, is enlightening and movtivational. It is brilliant in is uses of bibilical stories and scripture to create fiction that inspires one's life today. I haven't read such a good series in a long time.

Best series of its type I have ever read!

I must admit I am a pretty tough read. But after reading the first couple of pages of Book One of this series I was hooked! The third in the Chronicles of the Host series takes a different angle on the story and covers the great Old Testament stories quite well. Obviously with so much material Shafer couldn't include everything--but he moved through the Old testament and hit the main themes that especially deal with the lineage of Messiah. The only bad thing about this book was that I have to wait for the final book. I think what impresses me is not only the biblical insights but the practical things I take away. I read knowing exactly what will happen in the Bible but the writing holds me. I recommend this to everyone I know!

Sackett and colleagues have written the best introduction to clinical epidemiology for students and clinicians. Their approach helps clinicians and investigators see the value and pitfalls of quantitative approaches to clinical research. The explanations of Diagnosis and Management and the relationship between common clinical tools and epidemiology form the basics for the student to understand the emerging field of technology assessment in medicine. This book is must reading for the serious clinical investigator and student alike.

Sackett's book is a classic. It walks the new or old and grizzled reader through the techniques of literature review, test interpretation, and probability-based clinical decision making. It has pocket cards attached to help with a variety of analytical and interpretive activities. It is a must read by anybody who wants to practice quality medicine. Hopefully, that's all of us.

I started out with Patrick O'Brian and Aubrey and Stephan one at a time. I never stopped. Now I have 20 O'Brian books, all bought more or less one by each. If this set had been available earlier, I would have bought it instantly. If you read a few (it only takes two or three), you'll know whether or not to do this.

Outstanding series, not just for the "Nelson junkie"

I have read this complete series three times, and on each marathon, I was unable to put them down or stop between books. O'Brian's characters are all fully formed and endlessly interesting. Over time they mature and learn from their lessons. My favorite character is the physician/spy, Matarin, who is fascinating and has a consistent, low-keyed, but utterly wonderful sense of humor. I have read the entire Hornblower series (again, several times) and the Aubrey/Matarin series tower above those books (though they are still well worth reading).

I have also read some of O'Brian's other books, and I found his biography of Picasso excellent.

You will not be disappointed.

Don't compare these to Hornblower....

That was what caught my eye... "It's a disservice to compare these books to the Hornblower books" a critic wrote... "because these are so very much better". High praise indeed, I thought... so I tried the first... got half way through and put it down. Picked it up again a year later and tried again. This time I read all 17 books(now twenty) without stopping. They are really among the very best books you could choose. I would be put off by the complete set. Go ahead and get them one at a time. I envy you in reading them for the first time.

As I said when reviewing Vol. 1 of this series of book, it is always interesting to see which ones are preferred by the Dive Guides at the sharp end. Take it from me, they are all using this book and if it's good enough for them then it's more than good enough for me. Not once have I found any of the three volumes in my possession to be lacking in any way.

The book is well written and includes plenty of general information on diving, facilities, climate, sea, regulations, boats, cruise liners, resorts, hotels, flora, fauna, shipwrecks, photography and safety. The book then covers each of the Caribbean countries which form the main subject matter before concluding with a Glossary, Bibliography and Accident and Emergency Information.

If you want a book full of pretty pictures - then look elsewhere. This is a true guide which contains all the information you will require. It does not fool you by pretending to be something it is not - as is the case with far too many so-called "Guides," but instead concentrates on providing all the relevant and peripheral information that any Scuba Diver will want to know before and during a trip to any of the Caribbean destinations covered. The maps and diagrams are particularly useful - and very easy to follow.

My advice is to look at the "information" given in this series of books and don't get side-tracked by something more flashy. Do not be tempted away from this one - it is a straight forward, no nonsense guide containing everything you will want to know.

In summary, any book claiming to be "A Complete Guide" has to include an awful lot of information. This one has achieved just that and will not disappoint the purchaser.

The Complete Diving Guide (2) is a must for anyone diving the Netherlands Antilles. I used it while cruising in the area on my yacht in St. Maarten and dived in Saba, Statia and Anguilla on the strength of the information in the guide book. It tells you where the best dives are and how to dive them. The maps show you where the dives are and there is a lot of general background about what the diving will be like. I was surprised how much information the authors included and there's no woffle, it's all good value for money.

The ultimate dive guide

I'd definitely give this guide full marks. It's without doubt the most comprehensive of the guides I looked at for the area I was travelling to(the Virgin Islands). It had everything we could have wanted to know and it definitely meant we did some better diving than we'd have done without it. We particularly liked that it gave us information about the British and US Virgin Islands and as they are less than 5 miles apart it's simple to dive both areas. They have some really different types of diving and we'd have missed out on a lot without the guide. We bought the book before we went but we took it along with us and used it all the time. One of the things we enjoyed reading was the descriptions of the dives andthe sections about the marine life. We've been diving for over 10 years and I've learnt more from this book than I have in my previous years of diving.

There has really never been another garden book as compact and informative as Michael Wright's handbook. Whenever a 'new' plant hits the market, I look it up in the handbook, and although the book was originally published in the U.K. in 1984, more often than not I'll find the exact cultivar I'm looking for. The plant identification, cultivation, and descriptions are all right on the mark. Any time I can find a copy of this book, I buy it to give to my gardening friends, and every one of them thinks it's a treasure.

This book is the most complete I have ever read. It is out of print and I keep it checked out from the library system. I wish I knew how to get this book re-printed. I know there would be an interest by many gardeners who would gladly purchase this. As another reviewer wrote, you can carry it with you. Every plant that I have read about, or saw at a garden center, I have picked up this book and read about it and enjoy the beautiful drawings linked with each description. I love all of my garden books, but this one I would grab in a mad rush if my house caught fire. It is that valuable to me.

This book was a gift in 1986 and it is by far the most useful and used in my reference library. It is illustrated and covers a scope of plants rarely found in one volume. It includes trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs, annuals, etc. If you can aquire a copy of it, you won't be sorry. It is also small and easy to carry to garden shops and as a field guide.

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

To all who contributed to this fine book, my undying gratitude!

When first diagnosed with COPD, all I wanted to do was research, research, research! The more I read, the more frustrated I became - that is until I located Courage and Information. This book is so down-to-earth! And it is filled with prospectives of not only a physician (with no medical "jargon"), a psychiatrist (without all the normal "stuff") and...can you believe it?...A PATIENT. How unusual to find a book written, at least in part, from the patient's prospective. What a great idea! Like I said earlier, just good, practical, common-sense information.

Even my pulmonologist agrees that it is the best resource material he has seen! And as far as I'm concerned, that's the best recommendation of all!

It really WILL help me to live a better, more fulfilling life. It will help you too. But you've got to read it first. You'll be glad you did.

I KNOW I AM.

If you or someone you love has been given the diagnosis of COPD, you may be asking, What now? Is there anything that can be done? Is there hope? The answer is, Yes! Life can be good with COPD and this book is a most valuable resource for the COPD patient, caregiver, and health care professional.

As a respiratory therapist working in Pulmonary Rehab I see that patients who learn about their disease and how to cope with the changes it brings live healthier, happier lives. They know that education, exercise, and support as well as a positive attitude are so important.

Courage and Information for Life with COPD is not only your map to learning, among other things, about finding a great specialist, taking breathing medications, using supplemental oxygen if needed, and finding help and support in your community. It is the story of a lady who has experienced the devastation of the diagnosis and not only lives, but thrives with COPD! Jo-Von Tucker's search for knowledge has helped her to move from the role of patient / victim to that of person / survivor. You must know that you do not have to face COPD alone! When reading Courage and Information you will surely say, That's me. Jo-Von's been through some of the same things that I'm going through.

There are so many things you can do to help yourself. Changed as it may be, you can live a rich and full life, even with COPD. Courage and Information willl help you find the way.
