This book was a very intriguing and fast read. It really made a person reflect on how they treat and care for family members and their friends. I believe that Brian will help lots of people face family and friend problems with his writings in Mad River. This book would make a good Family Channel movie one day.

Unlike most books on the market of this type, the plot definitely has its own twists and turns. Once the reader decides they know exactly what is going to happen, BAAM the next moment the most unexpected events take place that demands your attention. This book was able to capture my attention from the beginning to the end leaving me scratching through each page to get more. I would definitely recommend this book, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

THE MAIN EVENT IS A GREAT LOOK AT WHEN THE WWE REALLY TOOK OFF IN POPULARITY. THE WWE WENT TO CABLE TV AND WRESTLING TOOK OFF. IT COVERS ALL THE WRESTLEMANIAS, MEN'S WOMEN'S AND TAG TEAM CHAMPS ALONG WITH ALL THE MANY WRESTLERS WHO HELP MADE THE WWE SO POPULAR BACK IN THE 80'S. FROM ROWDY RODDY, HULKSTER, STUDD AND ANDRE IT'S ALL HERE IN THIS BOOK. MANY OF THE SUPERSTARS ARE GIVEN A 2 OR 3 PAGE DETAILED LOOK AT THEIR CAREER AND WHERE THEY ARE NOW. I WANTED MORE AFTER I READ THIS. I REALLY ENJOYED THE NOSTALGIA IT BROUGHT BACK ESPECIALLY THE MR T AND CYNDY LAUPER HYPE IT BROUGHT BACK IN THE MID 80'S. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FOR ALL WRESTLING FANS. A GREAT BUY.

Ive yet to read the whole book, but ive skimmed thru it and bought it right away. The book is an amazing weatlh of info of the WWE in the 80's. They however, do not have any color photos which seems odd. I hope they do a book on wrestling in the 90's as a follow up.

The WWE went into detail to try and give a pefect summary of all of the major stars that helped defined the decade, point out major angles and title changes. This book and WWE Legends are two must haves if you're just getting into watching the exciting action that takes place on WWE Programing every Monday, Tuesday and Friday Nights

Managing Stress is one of the best textbooks I have seen and should be required reading at every school. The reason I enjoy the book so much is because it presents a whole new way of seeing stress - stress reframed from a positive, enlightened perspective. The book is such a comprehensive volume of information, including just enough of all the most important topics related not only to stress, but to mind-body health in general, as much as any author can encapsulate in such a huge, broad, and growing field.

Managing Stress is so good because Seaward helps readers and students recognize an important need in our culture for embracing a broader perspective of wellness, one that encompasses and touches every nuance of life including business, education, the arts, government, and so on.

Wellness is certainly not solely about taking care of the body, it is perhaps even more importantly about taking care of the mind and spirit. This book is endlessly full of great supporting holistic mind-body health research and tidbits, including fascinating studies proving the efficacy of the stress-management modalities provided. Through the study of this text alone I believe one can develop an in-depth knowedge of not only mind-body health, but of the whole human condition, what it means to be a human being. I cannot think of too many other books that I can make that statement about.

If you want to learn how to change your life, study this text in-depth, and then choose topics from it you are most interested in, and delve into them using many of the additional resources provided. Yet, perhaps most importantly, learn to put these techniques into practice and then you will find not only the jewel of analytical knowledge, but, even more, the crowning jewel of wisdom and enlightenment.

Excellent !!!

Wonderful collection of marine paintings

Review Date: 2006-10-25
Geoff Hunt is possibly the most talented marine artist since Montague Dawson. This book contains dozens of prints of his most beautiful paintings, which in many cases are complete with earlier versions from line drawings to colour sketches. There are many descriptions of how the paintings came to be created, from who commissioned each one to the ideas the artist had about how to execute the commission and how he turned it real.

Most of the subjects concern warships of Nelson's era, though there are a few drawings and paintings of more modern warships or civilian ships. in particular, there are many paintings of the ships of the line in which Nelson served, many of them illustrating real incidents from Nelson's service career. The book also contains a large number of paintings illustrating ships and scenes from the Jack Aubrey novels written by Patrick O'Brien. (In fact, many of the ships which appear in these novels were real historical units which are faithfully reproduced in the book covers and other paintings included - in Hunt's words, "In most cases Patrick press-gangs real ships into his novels.")

The book also includes a number of studies of United States sailing ships, including the first US ship of the line (America) being built, pictures of the USS Constitution, and "General Washington's Wolfpack." Much as it pains me to mention a gentleman who was born in Whitehaven (the town where I live) but subsequently came back commanding an enemy squadron and raided the town, this book also includes some beautiful pictures of naval scenes from the life of John Paul Jones.

Geoff Hunt manages to make ships of the line and frigates from the era of fighting sail incredibly beautiful, but he also goes to some length to make his pictures realistic, even consulting the original logbooks of the ships concerned when he is trying to capture real feats of seamanship. He also consulted the original signal code books before painting the signal flags flown by his warships, so they spell out appropriate messages in the codes of the period.

If you are attracted to pictures of ships from the era of fighting sail, you will love this book.

Brian Long has in essence, fully researched the history of the Miata Roadster. This is a timeless keepsake which traces the origins of the Mazda corporation and the step by step development of an incredible automobile. I applaud his attention to the chronology and details of the car's history. From the initial design team sketches to the clay models to the smallest details which came together to capture the spirit of the old British roadsters. It's a great source of information and details which most enthusiasts aren't aware of. If you're a fan of the Miata, or of the simplicity of the British roadsters then this one's a winner!

I have previously done a review of the First Edition of the Microsoft Windows Security Resource Kit which I was very impressed with. All what I said for that book still applies. The first book applied to Windows 2000 and XP Pro. Since then there has been a major upgrade for XP in SP2 and the introduction of Windows 2003 which the Second Edition covers. As with the first book this edition is great for anyone that wants to learn how to secure their Windows 2000/2003/XP Pro operating systems/networks and is geared mostly to administrator types though anyone with such interest including power users will find it extremely helpful.

In just under 700 pages no book can be all inclusive about Windows security. The Windows Security Resource Kit goes into detail on many commonly implemented topics like password/account policy and on others it shows you the basics of what is possible and then refers you to online documantation/white papers if you are interested in a full implementaion which keeps the book affordable, readable, and under 10,000 pages. For example there is a full chapter 25 with detailed instruction on how to implement 802.1X security for wired and wireless networks. For Software Restriction Policies there are three pages but that is enough to make a user aware of what SRP is, how it can help you prevent users from installing and running unathorized applications, and the basics of how to implement it. As a MCSE in Windows 2003:Security and a common newsgroup participant I am often amazed at the number of admnistrators that are not aware of many the security features of Windows 2000/2003/XP Pro such as SRP or in particular ipsec. They would benefit tremendously from this book.

The two chapters on privacy were dropped and more room is devoted to W2003/XP Pro. Though a lot of the content is the same as the previous version much as been revised or added. Below are some that I considered of note though my list is not all inclusive of changes.

CH3. A much better table with descriptions of well known sids.
CH8. Using EFS with Webdav to keep files encrypted on the network and sharing of EFS files.
CH9. Full list AND description of all services for Windows 2000/2003/XP Pro.
CH10. Windows firewall including how to configure for scope and exceptions, using Group Policy or scripted intstallations using netfw.inf. Improvements for ipsec in Windows 2003 including default exemption handling.
CH.11 Group Policy for wireless networks and Software Restriction Policies.
CH.12 Interet Explore securtiy and pop up blocker.
CH.15 One of my favorite chapters on auditing. Includes tables with listing of more Event ID's for object access and policy change.
CH.17 Listed specific service recommendations for domain controllers for both Windows 2000/2003 and also listed a recommended ipsec filter for securing a domain controller.
CH.19 Much is changed in 2003 Terminal Servies. - Use of Software Restriction Policies, smart card logon, and SSL for TS with SP1.
CH.22 For RRAS a big change is the cability of remote access quarantine control. A step by step is given with a link to sample scripts to use or modify.
CH.23 Implementation of role separation for certificate authorities.
CH.24 IIS 6.0 is disussed with it's security capabilities such as default install state, Automatic Health Monitoring, and the all important Application Isolation.
Ch.25 A whole step by step chapter on 802.1X for wired and wireless networks including Remote Access Policies, IAS, and deploying user and computer certificates. 802.1X can greatly increase security of WEP by using dynamic wep and forcing key renewal if you still have to use WEP.
CH.27 Briefy discusses Windows Update Services and its advantages.
CH.29 How to install and use the Windows 2003 SP1 Security Configuration Wizard to help select a computer profile for "hardening" to disable uneeded servces, configure audit policy, and use ipsec filters to block uneeded ports! In my opinion this is a tremendous tool that also has a rollback capability. New features of netstat are shown [note that netstat -b can be used to show executeable to port use though not covered in the book]. Two extremely helpful new tools - portquery and port reporter.
CH.31 Great table on using built in and third party tools to capture state of the computer for incident response investigation. I am surprised however that msinfo32 was not mentioned as you can use it to generate a very useful report to a .nfo file.

There is much discussion throughout the book on use of ipsec to protect your network with either ESP/AH encryption/integrity or the use of an ipsec "filter" policy to manage access to computer ports. Included are examples of ipsec filters for domain controller, wins, and DHCP. As much as I like the book I disagree with the recommendation on pages 375-376 on implementing ipsec for the domain by implementing a client/respond policy for the domain and then a server require ipsec policy for the domain controller container. Refer to KB254949 for more details and be sure to throughly test and ipsec policies on a test domain before implementing. Poorly planned ipsec implementation can cause havoc on a domain. I highly recommend that you read the white paper on Improving Security with Domain Isolation to see ipsec can do to protect your domain with the proper ipsec policies.

All in all I still believe that the Microsoft Windows Security Resource Book is a top notch book for anyone to own who wants to learn how to maximize security on their computer or network within their risk manangement paramaters. The changes in Windows XP Pro SP2 and more so Windows 2003 are very significant. If you already own the First Edtition but have upgraded to Windows 2003 or want to learn more about how Windows 2003 can improve your security then this book is for you.

While MIC makes web graphics creation as easy as it gets, it's still a great help to have a guide to lead you through the short learning curve. Brian Johnson inspires confidence. With a little patience and this book, you'll be cranking out graphics like a pro. Power users of MIC may not lean anything new, but for the price, it's a good reference tool.

An excellent book. I feel like I've a more encompassing understanding of the big picture after reading this book. Before I was vaguely aware that I was missing the forest for the trees.

My only reservation about the book is its age. I wish the book were a little more recent, and I wonder if some of the newer developments might be missing.

Macroeconomics...and in their own words!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2002-03-21
The central purpose of this book is to make sense of the fierce issues and debates concerning modern macroeconomics.

The authors suggest that the text be used alongside a basic macroeconomics textbook or as a main text in itself.

It is an excellent introduction to what is recognised as a controversial area of economics. The analogy of climbing a mountain and not being able to see the landscape is a very pertinent one.

There may be disagreements about the content of this book. Indeed it is easy to adopt a position about exclusions but this is a side issue. The format of an historical perspective in the development of ideas coupled with a consideration of the major positions within the debate works well.

It is clear from reading the text that the authors are very familiar with the subject matter and that each has contributed to the individual chapters on the specialist areas in a way which carries along the general reader.

Two particular things stand out for me in this text. The first is the section within the first chapter devoted to methodological issues and the associated section on rhetoric in economics. This is a key to a comprehensive understanding of the nature of the debate and the competing schools of thought involved.

The other standout aspect of this book is the interviews with various protaganists of the differing schools. Some pretty big names here including that of Nobel Prize Winner, James Tobin who only died last week. And what interviews. Not for these authors the standard sort of awe-struck beholden interviews but foccussed on the central points of the debate, exploratory questions which give real insight into the people and the issues involved. An excellent approach and one which has proved to be very successfully applied.

The final chapter, Conclusions and Reflections provides an outstanding summation and is followed by a comprehensive bibliography.

This book manages to convey in written form the full extent and depth of the macroeconomic debate such that it is intelligible to the educated reader without resorting to more mathematics than are absolutely needed and for that the authors are to be applauded.

In summing up this is a very valuable text which will be an asset to every macroeconomics course reading list.

Very useful

This book is very useful. It is a definite help to graduate students trying to understand macroeconomics. It would probably not help undergraduates.

The challenge of explaining the major schools of thought, and explaining their strengths and weaknesses is a major one. The authors also go over some non-orthodox schools such as Post Keynesian and Austrian. However, some of the diagrams are poorly explained and the writing is a bit incomprehensible in a few chapters. Also, the book does not go over growth theory, which is probably a major part of any graduate macro class. On the whole though, it is one of the best macro books available.

An excellent summary of competing schools of thought
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 1998-01-09
Snowdon et.al. present a thorough and concise summary of the competing schools of macroeconomic thought and the major scholarly contributions by their proponents. The book is organized in such a manner that one can follow the major ideas and models within the different schools as they emerged, and then follow how these ideas came to be critiqued by a proponent of a competing school. Snowdon et.al do this all by using intuitive interpretations of the literature and without the complex mathematical formulas or empirical test data. Very readable by intermediate standards with excellent information for understanding macro thought.

A "101" guide is supposed to bee a guide that takes you from the ground up to the top of the pyramid with relative ease and by showing you all the steps that you need to take to ensure success. This book follows this pyramidal method of explaining things and takes it to another level by adding crucial information along every step of the way, thus insuring success. A good book, revealing, but not as good as "The Music Business: How YOU can make $500,000 "or more" a year in the music industry by Doing it Yourself!" By Ty Cohen, a title that follows the same principle but makes it better.

My favorite thing about the book is the wording. The author doesn't make it hard to understand like many other books I've read. It's almost like your talking to a friend who has a great deal of knowledge on the ins & outs of music.

Unlike many of the entry level books that now saturate the market and profess to offer advice on "how to succeed" in the music business, this book focusses on how the music business works. Written with a surprising blend of simplicity and sophistication that is greatly enhanced by the clean layout and clever use of graphics, it's a quick-read that can be used to help young, new or inexperienced music artists and professionals to define terms, learn the language of the business, understand all aspects of music industry operations, and the roles of the individuals who make it work. This is a terrifc book in that it not only lucidly explains the framework of the Natural Step but also gives some excellent practical examples of major corporations starting down the path towards sustainability. This will give them a great competitive edge. With examples like the Natural Step model being applied by the likes of IKEA and Interface one can remain optimistic in the face of the torrent of negatives about the degenerating nature of the world environment. I hope that this book will encourgae others to look nto what the Natural Step has to offer..

This is a clear and wonderful book that makes a compelling case for a new environmental awareness in business and industry. The style is graceful, the chapter organization is easy to follow, and there are many charts and diagrams that enhance the book. I was extremely impressed, and I recommend the book highly.

An excellent applied reference on The Natural Step

The authors provide a real service with this book. So far much of the published work on The Natural Step framework has remained conceptual, without a lot of practical examples of the model in practice. The case examples of IKEA, Collins Pine, and Interface provide valuable references for organizational managers and consultants who are working to build more sustainable organizations. I highly recommend this book.

Exceptional book describing the background of the Natural Step process but more importantly provides evidence that companies who embrace sustainabilty in every aspect will be well rewarded for their efforts. Well done with loads of detail.
