This book is a great resource for the Kodak Camera Collector. Easy to follow, lots of illustrations and helpfull information to identify vintage cameras. I have just started collecting Kodak cameras and found this book along with the "Collectors Guide to Kodak Cameras" a paperback by Jum & Joan McKeown very usefull in identifying years and camera types.

As someone who collects Kodak cameras, this book - while hard to find - is worth every penny. Coe's resources from being curator of the Kodak museum are perhaps the most enviable of any camera collector. While not every model is chronicled, a serious attempt has been made to provide an impressive amount of domestic AND foreign models. This contrasts McKeown's Price Guide in that McKeown primarily lists domestics. I was pleasantly surprised to know that there were many foreign models which I still require to complete my collections.

Along with the Kodak book by Jim McKeown, the information on Kodak cameras in Brian Coe's book is an invaluable resource about the history of those cameras. An amazing assortment of Kodak cameras are listed, with an tremendous amount of detail on production years, film sizes, etc. It's not concerned with value as much as production history, which is often information that is hard to find. If you collect vintage Kodak cameras, or just have an interest in their history, this is a valuable addition to your library.
It's the best book about Kodak cameras there is!

The accuracy of the information about Kodak cameras is the best there is! It's an invaluable resource about the history of Kodak cameras. Almost all the cameras made, around the world, are listed with manufacturing, film types, production years, etc.......info with great images. This is a first quality book.
I've used it as one of the main resources for creating The Brownie Camera Page website.
It's not a book to find the value or worth of these cameras but to find out the factual history.

All of Sensei Frost's wisdom and knowledge of the art of Koei-Kan Karate-Do has been displayed and documented in this, an excellent reference for both begining and advanced Karate-ka. As a Sho-Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) in the Koei-Kan system, I found this book invaluable not only in my own training, but also in instructing new students. This book offers an extensive account of terminology common in Koei-Kan training, history, the "family tree" of Koei-Kan, as well as discussions on Budo, Dojo, Anatomy, Kata, the essence of Kiai, techniques, and Bogu (a full contact exercise unique to Koei-Kan). Whether you are an advanced student in Koei-Kan, a new student, or just an interested party, KOEI-KAN KARATE-DO: PRACTICE AND PRECEPT is an excellent choice to begin your journey into the heart of Karate-Do and the spirit of Budo.

When I saw this movie, I was blown away. Now, being a kid, I didn't really get the full effect of the movie and didn't understand some of the plot, until, that is, I bought thi Screenplay. it made a lot of things clear. And also, it tells you the stage directions, which, if you want to use a piece from this a a monologue is a whole lot easier... A few complaints, though. There are some great lines in the movie that weren't included in the book and some extra ones that you don't see in the movie. For example, Captain Dudley is not Irish! Anyway, that only matters to nuts like myself. In closing, it's a great book and is worth it. I memorized the entire movie!

L.A. CONFIDENTIAL is one of the most riveting movies I have seen in years and was more than deserving of its Best Picture nomination (another one that bit the dust because of a sinking ship). The movie is really fast-paced and it is easy to miss things. Even after repeated viewings there are lines that you don't quite understand and clues here and there you don't pick up. After reading the screenplay, everything comes together and one can find the missing pieces in this murder mystery modern film noir. An excellent screenplay to compliment an superb movie.

L.A. Confidential, winner of 2 1997 Academy Awards, is a classic thriller that is completely unforgettable. The script includes characters who were portrayed by Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, James Cromwell, Kim Basinger, (in her oscar winning performance) and Danny Devito. They all live in Los Angeles and are involved in a conspiracy in which is a mystery of who killed who? Anyhow, there are several plots to the script involving cops, reporters, and even HOOKERS THAT LOOK LIKE MOVIE STARS (Kim Basinger) I give this Academy Award winning script a superb rating that should be recommended to numerous people across the country. It's an unforgettable suspense classic you don't want to miss!

I was a Los Angeles Police Officer from 1956-62. The period of the book (film) was early 50's. The film portrays, with great accuracy, conditions and attitudes on the LAPD. The "Bloody Christmas" beating of two LAPD officers was accurately portrayed, down to the "almost" correct pronounciation of the name of the officer who received the most severe beating. The backdrop of LA, was exact. All in all, a terrific book and film.

The Land of Narnia is a good book that tells about C.S. Lewis' life and how he came to write the Chronicles of Narnia. This book tells who Aslan and the Witches are and tells what gave C.S. Lewis the idea for Reepicheep, the warrior mouse. This book contains summaries for the seven books as well. This is an excellent book to read if you have just finished reading the Chronicles of Narnia. It helps you to understand the books and the characters a little better if you don't know what they mean. You also learn about C.S. Lewis' childhood and how this was a major factor in creating the Narnia books. Reviewed by Joshua Bixler *****stars

The Chronicles Of Narnia carry you off into a new, magical world full of interesting characters, enthralling storylines and fantastic places. Although they are recommended for children, anyone with a vivid imagination who loves fantasy will probably like these. One must wonder about the genius of Lewis - to create a whole world is unusual, to say the least. Narnia is a brand new world at the beginning of the first book, The Magician's Nephew. In the course of the chronicles the country is saved numerous times by a group of children from our world - England from about 1900 to 1950 to be precise. Lewis' writing is subtly witty and at times profoundly moving (especially in the first and last two books). Well worth a read - or several. The one bad thing about these books is that they instill a sense of wistful nostalgia in anyone who believes in the ability of people to destroy our world.

However re-reading it several years later it gave me a lot of insight into the Narnia series and made me enjoy them more as I got older. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves the books.

I really liked this, but Mr. McDonald has written half a book! In the last 25 pages of a 275-page book, he rushes to tell us how he quit Elaine's, has his book published, gets deeply into drugs and alcohol, goes broke, spends years of his life on a prolonged relapse, then gets clean and sober again. Hello!?!? I wish there had been more editing early on, so we could have had less about standing behind the bar and more about the struggle to get his life back. Maybe that's being saved for the next book? If so -- not fair. Nonetheless, Mr. McDdonald's a good writer and it was an enjoyable read.

Reading McDonald is akin to eating a piece of Junior's cheesecake or a hotdog at Yankee stadium; its pure New York that you end up carrying with you as an experience.
I am a big fan of My Father's Gun, and this book shows not only McDonald's writing strength, but how he has grown as a writer. Like Gun, you come away with a precious sense for how it is/was in New York as a true New Yorker. Simply priceless.

Mr. McDonald vividly describes the unique world of Elaine's, an iconic bar and restaurant in the Big Apple. But that's not all he describes in this hard to categorize Memoir. The book is a redemption story. And it's a celebration of a place that will probably never be equaled for its longevity and its sheer glamor. In addition, Mr. McDonald has written a most sensitive and compelling portrait of Elaine Kaufman. Ms Kaufman has always been enigmatic even to the people closest to her and the people that have previously written about her. McDonald enables us to see the strength, fragility and vulnerability of this complex and enormously successful "Queen of New York." She is just human after all. However, the most significant aspect of 'Last Call at Elaine's' is the author's portrayal of his own alcoholism and the concomitant and destructive denial that all alcoholics must have in abundance to keep doing what they do. There is nothing trite, maudlin or sensational about the way McDonald describes this insidious disease. I feel richly rewarded for the sleep I lost staying up to read this book. I am glad McDonald took Elaine's advice to 'Just tell the Story.'

It seems like every year our boys find a new Brian Floca title to call their favorite book. First it was "Five Trucks", then "Racecar Alphabet" enjoyed a long stay at number one. Now with "Lightship", my boys spend their time split between devouring the elegant illustrations which draw them into the life of the crewmen (and their cat!) and looking out onto our little view of the ocean, trying to find their own Lightship. Thank you, Brian, for sparking their imaginations.

We bought this book as soon as it was available because Brian Floca's book, "Racecar Alphabet" was our favourite. Now, with "Lightship" we have two favourites at bedtime.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. The illustrations are lovely and fun. The story is educational and interesting, but to me, "Lightship" is the story of steadfastness. Not all jobs are glamorous, or flashy but that doesn't mean they aren't important. In fact, they may be the most important.
I love this book and I can't wait for Brian's next.

Brian Floca's LIGHTSHIP reads with the drama and action of fiction but is actually a nonfiction account of a 'lightship, which once anchored across America, going where lighthouses couldn't be built to help guide ships to safe waters. Descriptions of the lightship's construction, crew and purposes are accented by excellent drawings throughout to provide young leisure readers with a special interest survey perfect for any who love boats.

FROM ROWDY RODDY, HULKSTER, STUDD AND ANDRE IT'S ALL HERE IN THIS BOOK. MANY OF THE SUPERSTARS ARE GIVEN A 2 OR 3 PAGE DETAILED LOOK AT THEIR CAREER AND WHERE THEY ARE NOW. I WANTED MORE AFTER I READ THIS. I REALLY ENJOYED THE NOSTALGIA IT BROUGHT BACK ESPECIALLY THE MR T AND CYNDY LAUPER HYPE IT BROUGHT BACK IN THE MID 80'S. Managing Stress is one of the best textbooks I have seen and should be required reading at every school. The reason I enjoy the book so much is because it presents a whole new way of seeing stress - stress reframed from a positive, enlightened perspective. The book is such a comprehensive volume of information, including just enough of all the most important topics related not only to stress, but to mind-body health in general, as much as any author can encapsulate in such a huge, broad, and growing field.
Managing Stress is so good because Seaward helps readers and students recognize an important need in our culture for embracing a broader perspective of wellness, one that encompasses and touches every nuance of life including business, education, the arts, government, and so on.
Wellness is certainly not solely about taking care of the body, it is perhaps even more importantly about taking care of the mind and spirit. This book is endlessly full of great supporting holistic mind-body health research and tidbits, including fascinating studies proving the efficacy of the stress-management modalities provided. Through the study of this text alone I believe one can develop an in-depth knowedge of not only mind-body health, but of the whole human condition, what it means to be a human being. I cannot think of too many other books that I can make that statement about.
If you want to learn how to change your life, study this text in-depth, and then choose topics from it you are most interested in, and delve into them using many of the additional resources provided. Yet, perhaps most importantly, learn to put these techniques into practice and then you will find not only the jewel of analytical knowledge, but, even more, the crowning jewel of wisdom and enlightenment.

This is the "bible" of stress management books, a complete wholistic approach (mind-body-spirit-emotions) which is long overdue in the health profession. Reading this book is like having a conversation with a wise old sage. The CD of four relaxation exercises is wonderful. What a calming voice.

I ordered this book for my Dad, who is a water-colorist and loves to paint tall ships. He called to thank me and said the book is wonderful, the only word to describe it was magnificent!

Geoff Hunt is possibly the most talented marine artist since Montague Dawson. This book contains dozens of prints of his most beautiful paintings, which in many cases are complete with earlier versions from line drawings to colour sketches. There are many descriptions of how the paintings came to be created, from who commissioned each one to the ideas the artist had about how to execute the commission and how he turned it real.
Most of the subjects concern warships of Nelson's era, though there are a few drawings and paintings of more modern warships or civilian ships. in particular, there are many paintings of the ships of the line in which Nelson served, many of them illustrating real incidents from Nelson's service career. The book also contains a large number of paintings illustrating ships and scenes from the Jack Aubrey novels written by Patrick O'Brien. (In fact, many of the ships which appear in these novels were real historical units which are faithfully reproduced in the book covers and other paintings included - in Hunt's words, "In most cases Patrick press-gangs real ships into his novels.")
The book also includes a number of studies of United States sailing ships, including the first US ship of the line (America) being built, pictures of the USS Constitution, and "General Washington's Wolfpack." Much as it pains me to mention a gentleman who was born in Whitehaven (the town where I live) but subsequently came back commanding an enemy squadron and raided the town, this book also includes some beautiful pictures of naval scenes from the life of John Paul Jones.
Geoff Hunt manages to make ships of the line and frigates from the era of fighting sail incredibly beautiful, but he also goes to some length to make his pictures realistic, even consulting the original logbooks of the ships concerned when he is trying to capture real feats of seamanship. He also consulted the original signal code books before painting the signal flags flown by his warships, so they spell out appropriate messages in the codes of the period.
If you are attracted to pictures of ships from the era of fighting sail, you will love this book.
