Brandt Books

This book is one of those rare finds. A highly readable and insightful book about a too common psychological issue: self sabotage. The author's brilliant insights and accessible examples reflect a deep understanding of the dynamics of self sabotage and explain why so many of us do ourselves more harm than good. Procrastination, destructive relationships, job failure, inability to advocate for ourselves, these are all examples of what Dr. Brandt calls everyday masochism. He offers wise and brilliant advice for chaning these destructive patterns

This book is a fast moving, fun mystery. It gives you the flavor for the action behind the scene in a TV station. It's a difficult book to put down.

Fantastic book if you can find it. Text covers Brandt's personal history from early blacksmithing, his weapons engineering during WWI, to his influence on ornamentation in the US art deco movement. Most valuable aspect though is the collection of photographs. It is the largest single collection of photo documentation of Brandt's work that I have been able to find. It covers decorative-arts type items all the way to architectural projects. Overall, this is a very high quality book with an invaluable content, I only hope that it is put back into print to bring prices down.

I think this book is well layed-out, and easy to read. It is also full of examples from companies you know, and deal with. Lots of graphs help to illustrate the ideas, and relationships.

I recommend this book for researchers in the fields of Immersive Virtual Environments (IVE) and "serious games". Of particular note is the chapter on "The Virtual Cell".

Author Nancy Brandt shares a story that will both touch and inspire you. A soft undercurrent of faith permeates this book, but does is never "preachy" and the characters come to life in a manner that keep the story moving forward quickly. I am not generally a reader of "romance" genre novels, but I found this story compelling and would love to read another book by Brandt. Treat yourself to this one or buy it as a gift for a special friend!

Why this book isn't more popular, I have no idea. I just got turned on to it and it's fantastic -- for an entrepreneur, CEO or business unit manager. It's a very tactical, roll up the sleeves book that get right into the most important element of any business -- focus. Highly recommended.

As a school Guidance Officer and Counsellor, I have found this book invaluable. It is based on Perceptual Control Theory and shares many similarities to the work of William Glasser and his Choice Theory, although the two authors would probably dispute this. It is particularly relevant for Guidance Officers whose schools have introduced "the Responsible Thinking Classroom" as part of their behaviour management policy. For a counsellor, Ed goes much deeper than a discussion of Perceptual Control Theory. Ed describes valuable techniques he uses in counselling and relates them to his understanding of why we humans do what we do. My only complaint is that I want a follow up book on counselling from Ed but can't seem to find one. I suspect that like many authors of the really great counselling books, Ed is more involved with the practical counselling side of things and simply hasn't had the time to write another book since this one. His style of writing is easy to read and it is one of those books that can be read time and again and each time more is learnt. This book contains much more about human behaviour than a study of stress. If Ed is still around, I hope he reads this review and writes another book on his techniqes of counselling and human behaviour.

This is such a great book to read. I like when she got the doll because I like dolls to. I wish they had a Angela Anaconda doll to buy. Maybe someday You will sell one.

As I say, this is a job well done. The story of the discovery and excavation of La Belle is presented in a way that keeps you interested. I have visited 5 of the 7 locations where artifacts from La Belle are housed. The story of the expedition itself is a great read, and the discovery and excavation is even more so. Also there is the great photography. All around a very fine book.
