Harden Long writes romance novels. Just like the tales that his mother used to read to him when he was a child. One of them, The Orphaned Prince has just been picked up for publication. However, he has just lost all his buddies as they feel real men don't write romance - Harden must be gay. It does not matter they he lives for football, brassy, overly-made-up blondes and the occasional beer.

Cooter has decided that Harden Long has written about his life - and he wants his throne (the Canadian throne) or at least his crown jewels. He sells his trailer and everything he owns except for his truck and heads to Calgary to claim his birthright.

Dixie Dawn lives with Cooter. When he sells her home she goes with him to Calgary. Someday she will have the life she wants and feels she deserves. `Till then she has Cooter.

The first meeting between Harden and Dixie Dawn makes them wonder if they have met the one person each of them has always searched for. And what do they do about Cooter? Does happily-ever-after ever occur?

The Secrets of Harden Long left me with a smile on my face. I found myself reading the story, forgetting myself and laughing out loud in the middle of a Starbucks. Peter A. Brandt knows how to write at story with dry wit. His ability to show how ludicrous life and people can be is very well developed. If you like humor with some romance you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Seeing with a Painter's Eye

Excellent, distinctive book on painting
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2004-11-10
The late Rex Brandt brought a distinctive and well-informed perspective to the art of painting in general and to watercolor painting in particular. This 20-year-old book is not, however, a watercolor painting instructional book per se; that's what makes it unusual. It is a detailed, fairly sophisticated, but very accessible analysis of various aspects of visual perception and visual communication through painting. It should be very valuable for most painters, particularly--but not only--the more traditional ones. The book is most suitable for intermediate or advanced painters, although beginners should find it helpful, too. Brandt looks at painting in a surprisingly systematic way (so much so that some painters might be bothered by this analytical approach to developing a "painter's eye"). He provides an extensive painter's vocabulary that artists can use to evaluate their own work and that of other artists. Using plenty of his own paintings and drawings as examples, he discusses a variety of topics about the painting process, including the role of drawing, shape and proportion, methods of depicting light and shadow, the use of signs and symbols, the dynamics of spacial relationships, contrast in values, the perception of color, texture, composition, stylistic approaches, and many other aspects of visualizing a painting. His analysis is drawn from his own long and varied experience as a painter and teacher, enhanced by his well-informed sense of art history. It's a pity that this book is no longer widely available.

This book will shake your foundation when it comes to your understanding of sexuality in Ancient Greece. It seems that what some civilizations consider unnatural, others consider wholly natural and beautiful. You may not like what you read, but if you cherish Ancient Greek culture, for whatever reasons, this book will give you insight into their sexual practices.

Formerly known as Barbara Brandt, I have reverted to the use of my maiden name - Barbara Temperton. My next book, a collection of poems entitled "Going Feral" is scheduled for release by Fremantle Arts Centre Press (Fremantle, Western Australia) in March 2002. There are still a small amount of copies of "Shorelines" available from FACP.

This is one of my favorite romance novels. Cate Brandt is one of the only authors in this genre who truly realizes that if you're going to have a 15-page sex scene, you have to balance that with wit, humor and adventure.

Sleisenger and Fordtran's Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease e-dition is as good as it gets. The "e" edition is invaluable. It is updated automatically. I can travel anywhere and read "on-line" without lugging around heavy textbooks...and bringing the wrong volume. I have been impressed as I found that it is actually easier to read such a textbook on my notebook computer. Of course the text is well-written and the photography is better than ever.

Spring's Promise

"Spring's Promise" contains four short inspirational romance stories. Gloria Brandt's "E-Love" combines love and the Internet. "The Garden Plot" by Rebecca Germany deals with gardens and relationships. Tracie's Peterson's "Stormy Weather" bursts with not only lightening but also with electricity. "Bride to Be" by Debra White Smith takes the reader down the aisle with the question of Mr. Right. All four stories take place during the season of Spring. You will not be disappointed with this book. I have read and re-read all stories over and over. All stories embrace Christian faith, love and marriage, but without losing the romance of the stories. If you like this book, you will also enjoy "Spring's Memory"; it also contains four inspirational romances. I highly recommend this book!

A perfect book about the United States

This is a wonderful, colorful book of all 51 flags of the states and Puerto Rico. I bought this because a friend in Italy requested a book with all the state flags of the USA. She needed it so she could make a quilt.
She will not be disappointed. The colors and the photos of the flags are first rate. There is also a short story about each state. Actually, every citizen of the United States should own a copy. 10 stars!

Excellent History of the Gunflint Trail
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-20
This book is so much more than recipes. It has timelines that document the owners of lodges still active and those that the government bought out in the 70s. Each lodge/resort/outfitter featured (and there are so many!) begins with a few pages of history and information about the people who pioneered the Gunflint Trail and those who are the current owners, followed by recipes featured by each lodge. It's a fascinating read and rather tough to put down. After possibly wearing out my dad's copy I had to buy one for myself.

Highly recommended for anyone who has visited the Gunflint Trail and those who enjoy the history & people of northern Minnesota. The recipes are a great bonus! :-)

The profits of this book go to the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department.

Taste the Seasons is put together by the "Cookbook Committee" at the Woodside-Atherton Auxiliary to Children's Hospital at Stanford. It is a very elegant book with a good balance of unique and familiar recipes. Also, it is very "user-friendly" with photos of table settings as well as the featured dishes, and scattered advice on meal planning throughout. The use of fresh ingredients is integral to many recipes, utilizing seasonal herbs and spices. Over 100 recipes, with more than 40 color photos taken on the grounds of the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park Ca.
