The text of Foundations of Embryology was at times rather advanced and technical but the pictures made the book really worth
while! There are thousands of pictures (electron micrographs, light micrographs, and many others including numerous hand-made
drawings from Patten himself). Although the majority of the photographs are in black and white, there is a section which
contains colored versions of the most important pictures. This book is a must for undergraduate students of biology and
professional students who must take courses in embryology.

I got this because I think it portrays some great emotions, ideas, and it makes for good parent-child discussions. Special
needs kids, (autism, aspergers, etc.) might find it easier to talk through these concepts because the subjects are animals.

I highly recommend this book for the serious student of Civil War history. The text is thought provoking and insightful.
It is a timely work when viewed from a modern perspective of today's U.S. volunteer military force in the wake of the invasion
and occupation of Iraq. In this context, it is easy to recognize parallels between the attitudes and beliefs of the Union
volunteers who perceived themselves initially as liberators and later as occupiers. One can also sense similarities in shifts
of official policy and in the roll of the press in shaping public opinion. Simply stated, this text is relevant to the events
of today. The book presents a penetrating study of the evolution of official Union policy toward civil populations in occupied
areas from Lincoln's first inaugural to the decided policy shift in the Shenandoah Valley adopted by John Pope in 1862.
The text is presented in an easy to read well-organized format and follows the intriguing military career of the immigrant, John Turchin, formerly a colonel in the Imperial Russian Army. Turchin comes to life as a colorful character, schooled in the Russian military academies and a veteran of the Czar's occupation of Hungary after the Revolutions of 1848. Later, settling in Chicago, he is drawn early into the conflict as an experienced professional soldier. As a Union officer, he is portrayed as a courageous leader whose dedication to his regiment's welfare demands the loyalty of his men.
In articulating the details of Turchin's career as a Union officer, the authors lead you through a major policy shift in Lincoln's administration. Turchin's trial and the events preceding it are used to explore the changes in emotions and attitudes of the Union toward the southern secessionists. This is a skilled narration, very different from many Civil War histories. It explores the war from an unusual viewpoint, studying a topic that has received little attention by other scholars. The format of the book makes for an enjoyable easy read.

Bradley's Indepth Overview of Music Ministry

Being a minister-musician obviously has its visible dimensions. Platform responsibilities make for familiarity with the public
side of folks who serve the church through music. Is that all these folks do, however? There's more-much more-behind the scenes
for these skilled, dedicated, servant leaders. This "much more" is the focus of C. Randall Bradley's "From Postlude to Prelude:
Music Ministry's Other Six Days."
There are more than a few books available directed toward the goal of worship and ministry leadership for musicians. From Postlude to Prelude focuses on what happens in the between times, when one Sunday's worship services are done and the next ones begin.
Bradley is well-versed in all dimensions of the music ministry by virtue of his experience as a student, teacher, and practicing church musician. His writing is clear and succinct. He offers an excellent overview of the music ministry that is nigh unto encyclopedic.
An experienced minister of music will be familiar with the topics addressed in this book, although they would be hard-pressed to find a more well-organized and broad identification of these matters. Non music ministers would likely experience more than a few "gee, I didn't know that" moments in reading this book. It could be an invaluable resource for a music minister search committee; indeed, Bradley addresses such groups specifically at some points in the text.
The sheer number of topics included means that none of them are treated in depth. Yet Bradley's vast knowledge and experience is also reflected in the two appendixes and bibliography contained at the end of the book. These provide plenty of resources (websites, periodicals, and books) to cover any and all topics raised in "From Postlude to Prelude" in depth.

Fun With Buddy & Lisa is the comic book rendition of all your teenage/early adulthood fears, but with side splitting humour
thrown in to sweeten the mix. Buddy is, tragically, the joe on the street. Victim to a world that will not slow down enough
for him to catch up. The art is fluid and psychotic, the writing makes you feel as if you are an uneasy eavesdropper and
the characters are hyperactive, paranoid creatures who, with a sudden shiver down your back, you suddenly recognise as all
too familiar. Warning! This is not for kids or the easily offended!

John Micheal Bradley's Future Leaders or Losers is a refreshing approach to understanding the youth of today. Using his own
real life experiences he brings a simple yet effective guide that is very sufficient in raising our children to their highest
potential. This book is a must have tool for educators and parents or anyone involved in the welfare of children.
