Animal Rights

This book tells me that along with people, animal have rights. Generally speaking, animal experimentation is good in most cases.
As long as the scientist is actually working on finding a cure for something, then it is a good thing.Although some animals
are treated unfairly sometimes, I think that animal experimentation is ethical because we can make sure medicines are safe
and get advances in medicines, and because it is helping to decrease human suffering. For example, it has provided us with
antibiotics and vaccines, insulin for diabetes, treatments for leukemia, and has made possible advances in medical technology,
such as blood transfusion and the heart lung machine.
The majority of animal testing is used for developing new treatments for disease, and fundamental biological medical research. All prescription drugs must be tested before they are allowed on the market. To get rid of animal experiments would be to stop modern medicine, to allow human suffering, and to put human's health at risk, by allowing products on the market without testing the level of toxicity. Humans share about ninety-nine percent of their genes with chimpanzees and only a little bit less with monkeys. This makes these animals a good guide to the human body.
Along with providing research, it also serves as a way to reduce human suffering. With experimentation, we have been able to use anesthetics during surgery. Without anesthesia, the patient would feel every cut that the doctor made. It also is responsible for bringing us the polio vaccine. "I wonder how many of the people out protesting on animal experimentation on top of their stools skipped their polio vaccines when they were younger," says John D. Porter of the Division of Laboratory Animal Research.
Animal experimentation has also decreased the number of endangered species around the world. By breeding these animals, scientists are able to create more of the species. This will hopefully lead into no more endangered species. Later on, we will not have to breed them any more because they will breed on there own.
Experiments have helped a number of people and animals for a many reasons. Many people protest because they think that the animals I the labs are being mistreated. All experiments have to be approved by the Animal Rights Committee. If the terms are not met, then the experiments are illegal, and the scientist is forbidden from the experiment. Every animal is given the best care before, during, and after the experiment. Animal experimentation is ethical and should continue until there are no diseases or
allergies at all.

Exciting tale of espionage, love, friendship in the Cold War Era

This second book in a trilogy can easily stand alone, but knowing Harry and Captain from Harry's War added to the excitement.
These characters were endearing as boys, and are
eminently appealing as men.
Harry is now Trooper Harry Lockwood of the 5th Royal Tank Regiment. His best friend Captain has become Lt. Martin Bulman of the British Intelligence Corps. World War Two is over and the Cold War has begun with Harry on maneuvers in Occupied West Germany. His lover Jenny lives with relatives in Scotland. Both are lonely, forced to maintain a long distance relationship via mail and telephone. Harry and Captain have continued the close ties established as lads. A shared leave in the Austrian Alps ends a mystery when Captain unexpectedly disappears.
Captain has been drugged and transported behind the Iron Curtain by Communist operatives. For what purpose, no one knows at first. His jailer, Frau Kellerman, appears to be a hard-nosed agent but Captain eventually spots several large chinks in her armor. Intelligence is his forte, along with courage and a quick mind. He soon learns Frau Kellerman's true identity, followed by an unexpected turn of plot. Meanwhile, Captain's Commanding Officer has transferred Harry to his service because no one on earth knows how Captain's mind works better than Harry. Tips from a woman named Kristy Schneider help them track Captain to where he's being held in
Czechoslovakia. The situation is desperate, once the truth is known. Captain is to be exchanged with an Eastern Bloc operative. If England does not cooperate, Captain will be executed.
Another Kind of War is fast paced and engaging from the start. Mr. Bradley has developed his characters quite effectively. Jenny has become a strong and loving source of stability for Harry during chaotic, frightening times. The fondness I felt
for Harry and Captain in book one has become admiration and respect in book two. Bradley captures the feeling of time, place, and persona in exciting ways in this ongoing story of love, war, and friendship.

Its true that no single linear programming book has everything you need. Bradley's book is excellent for problem formulation
and exercises.
I keep it along with Katta Murty's and James Ignizio.

Poems to make you cry and feel and think and shiver and clasp the hands of your loved ones, never to let them go. At once
both thought-provoking and profoundly emotional. I doff my cap to the editor.

A great source for the selecting and ranking of Australian wines. If you like data, this is the book for you. The author's
and winemaker's rankings along with the color label makes purchasing a previously untried wine less of a risk. The pocket
size format allows the user to carry it while shopping.

I'm very pleased with this guide book. It's taken me to many places I would not have thought to go ski touring. Whenever our
small group of ski tourers gets tired of the tri-canyon SLC area, we break out Bradley's book and head someplace new for the
day. It's a must have for the serious Utah ski tourer.

Many of the poems are hard to find in translation, including "Elene", "Andreas", and a number of the Old English Riddles. Whatever merit this book gains from its size is, sadly, lost by its overly technical and extremeley non-poetic translations (you may forget that what you are reading *was* poetry prior to this translation).
Bradley often decides to render the poetry into prose, leaving the reader with rather cumbersome lines, especially evident in "The Wife's Lament" and "Beowulf" (which he translates completely). My opinion, you ask? Buy this book for its large collection of poetry, but please also buy Kevin Crossley-Holland's The Anglo-Saxon World: An Anthology (Oxford World's Classics), which allows the reader who encounters these delightful and somber works in modern English to realize that they are real and visceral poetry.
