In Big Games, Michael Bradley profiles and historically documents 10 of college football's most famous rivalries. In this
book you learn about: the respect and honor found in Harvard/Yale and Army/Navy; the culture clash in Cal/Stanford; the national
legacy gathering of Notre Dame/Southern Cal; the state pride of Oklahoma/Texas and Michigan/Ohio State; the regional turf
war of Lafayette/Lehigh; the conference supremacy battle of Georgia/Florida; the future NFL talent assemblies of Miami/Florida
State; and the venomous hate of Alabama/Auburn.
What really stood out about this book was the amount of detail applied to the history of each program. Bradley takes you back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries and outlines the challenges the schools endured to launch their programs and highlight the key people and events in the decades that followed that made them what they are today. In fact, the Harvard/Yale chapter is actually a lesson in how the competitive football season we have today actually began.
And while Bradley is busy guiding you along the program timelines, he weaves in the evolution of each rivalry and the reasons they take place. You'll learn how the hate between Auburn and Alabama stems from decades of Auburn being viewed as "the little brother" to Alabama within the state. You'll know the reasons why Texans looked down upon Oklahomans at the turn of the 20th century and how those feelings spilled into Longhorn/Sooner rivalry. And you'll understand how Miami/Florida State is the closest thing to a sibling rivalry in football. All this and much more is spelled out for you in this book.
Furthermore, each chapter is packed with stories and quotes from personal accounts of the effects of each rivalry off the field. Ross Browner tells how he chose Notre Dame because he wanted revenge on USC for not selecting him. Patrick Nix recounts the childhood hardships of being the son of Auburn alumni attending a school filled with Tide fans. The prank wars of Lafayette/Lehigh, Harvard/Yale, and Cal/Stanford get special attention; as does the agony of defeat in Alabama/Auburn, Michigan/Ohio State, Army/Navy, and Oklahoma/Texas. These stories really bring these rivalries to life for the casual fan.
Bradley concludes each chapter with a "Great Games" and "Profiles in Greatness" section. "Great Games" allows the reader to experience five of the greatest games of each rivalry, such as: the thrilling 2005 triple-overtime clash between Harvard and Yale, "Wide Right I & II", the insane Notre Dame/Southern Cal meeting of 2005, the Lafayette/Lehigh shootout of '88, the '72 Iron Bowl, and the '82 Big Game. "Profiles in Greatness" covers is a "who's-who" of college football that, at one time, participated in the chosen rivalry. Profiles include: Walter Camp, Bobby Bowden, Deion Sanders, Barry Switzer, Darrell Royal, Knute Rockne, John McKay, Joe Montana, Steve Spurrier, Herschel Walker, Rabih Abdullah, Pop Warner, and Bear Bryant.
If you love college football history and want to understand its top rivalries, this is the book for you. You'll learn that not all rivalries are the same and how personally many people take them. You will be both educated and entertained. You'll also have a greater respect for those built these programs straight up from scratch. I can't recommend it enough, so buy your copy today.

This book is so pretty, I leave it out on the coffee table. But aside from its great look, the bibliographical article on
how the editor arrived at this production is very interesting and a real example of the highest form of scholarship.
Brilliant. Proud, defiant and cynical.

I recently got this frog and book as a gift to cheer me up while I was sick. I was most appreciative to receive it. The frog
is really soft and you can play around with it's eyes and mouth to make it happy or sad. It's very small so you can take it
with you if you travel. The little book is full of little anecdotes to make you feel better. And to help you realize that
life could be worse. I recommend this if you know someone who is sick or sad. It will cheer them up for sure.

If you're feeling down, this book is a great way to cheer yourself up. The Blue Day Book is a wonderful collection of amusing,
poignant animal photos and inspirational text designed to lift the spirits of anyone who's got the blues. We all have our
bad days -- it's part of being human. The solution is to see each incident in perspective, recognize that our feelings of
failure and loss are not unique, and acknowledge the absurdities of our existence, and glory in the potential we all have.
In less than one hundred sentences, The Blue Day Book conveys this message with great compassion and humor. Its vehicle is
charming black-and-white photographs of animals that are strangely human and completely free of judgment or pretension. The
easy text and beautiful images takes us through the entire evolution of a blue day -- examines what it feels like, what causes
it, and how to get over it.
I had a choice to either buy a full size copy of this book, or a smaller version with the blue frog. I couldn't resist the frog. Both the book & frog are perfect size to leave in your office drawer, car, or even your purse. You can even contort the frog's face to make him happy or sad. Whenever you're feeling blue, take a quick timeout and read this book. You'll feel better in no time.

lists on one side. Then, you can flip it over and use it as a regular journal. The pictures and quotes are neat and make

When I saw this journal I couldn't resist it. Even it's cover (the frown-y frog) makes me smile! It's a great journal with
re-affirming quotes and funny animal pictures on every page. It encourages me to write out my feelings when I'm sad, mad...even
glad! I love it so much that I can't even reserve it for blue days-it has become an everyday journal for me.
The directory in the back allows you to make lists of your favorite things, activities, places, foods, etc. so when you're feeling crummy you know how to pamper yourself. Just filling out the directory has made me think about what I really enjoy and consider adding more of these favorites to my every day life.

If you would like to travel back in time to "the good old days" when life was much simpler, and if you happen to be a Jersey
guy or gal who would like to get lost in a good book, then Bette Blum's Bradley Beach Treasures is most definitely the one
you want to curl up with.
Blum did a fabulous job putting together this collection of short stories from a bygone era. Each unique story took me (a Jersey girl myself) back to this time of innocence, where family values and lifelong friendships were the norm rather than the exception.
Along with each touching and memorable story she has also included nostalgic photos of the area in its heyday, as well as all sorts of pictures of Bradley Beach memorabilia. Bradley Beach Treasures was a true joy to read and kudos to Blum for a job well done.

Having seen The Brothers Booth performed live on stage, I find this book to be a rare convergence of humor, humanity, and
wisdom. It has a compelling storyline: by recovering the particular conditions that led to Lincoln's assassination in 1865,
the reader is led deep into the heart of a universal condition. Brothers Booth take readers onto a higher plane--it's at this
level that we feel inspired, provoked, and alive. This book reinterprets ordinary history in a way that enables the reader
to see into the mind and motives of John Wilkes Booth, in much the same way as Shakespeare saw into Julius Caesar.
Having said this, be warned that Brothers Booth will not reward a casual reading; it requires careful attention to unlock its treasure--a fact that makes the book even more amazing.

To the Western mind raised around religions where a supreme being is constantly appealed to and expected to intervene favorably
in your lives, Eastern religions can appear baffling. The symbolism, images and beliefs seem contradictory to the Judeo-Christian
theses. However, there is a lot of similarity between the religions, as all have as their basis a fundamental code of ethics.
Hawkins covers the origin of Buddhism from the time of Gautama, the spread throughout the Asian continent, the major variants and the extent to which it is currently practiced. No short book could possibly cover all aspects of a complex religion, and this book is no exception. However, if you are someone who was raised in a Judeo-Christian culture and are interested in learning the basics of Buddhism, this book is an excellent choice of material.

is accessible to the average person. Highly recommended for those beginning their study of this fascinating religion.

These Buddy stories have been such a big "guilty pleasure" for me for so long now that I'm sorry to see them go. For, as the
other reviewers have pointed out, this is set up to be the final, anticlimactic installment where Buddy leaves his third-rate,
post-industrial, prolonged adolescence for third-rate, post-industrial, adulthood (or at least the superficial trappings of
it).
Somehow, I don't think this will be the end of the Buddy Bradley story. Buddy mirrors too closely the fate of the typical "post industrial", working class kid. This won't be the end of his unhappy decline because things continue to get worse for the working class. Even though Buddy has "settled" for a mediocre existance he will not even be allowed to keep that. I rather expect that in a few years Mr. Bradley's business will fail and he will find himself trying to sell his labor as a middle age wage-slave competing against younger versions of himself for the same crummy jobs. Perhaps Bagge could call that story,_Buddy Bites the Big One_.....

This collection of "HATE!" stories is billed as the last appearance of Buddy Bradley. I rather think we will see Buddy again
someday because Bagge does not end his story as much as suspend it. Buddy finally stumbles into adult responsibility: he has
his own fledgling business, Lisa is pregnant, and Buddy is down on his creaking knees proposing marriage. He has smartened
up somewhat: however some of his buddies begin to pay some scary consequences for their feckless slackery. Once again I'm
impressed by the combination of Bagge's precise, almost novelistic characterizations and his wild, hairy, hilarious cartooning.
Stinky's sudden self-destruction is shocking, but if you re-read you will find that P.B. has carefully prepared for it; it's
almost an archetypal case of personal decline and fall. He lavishes similar care on new characters like Nicole, the nurse
who goes on two disastrous dates with Buddy (he thinks she's uptight, but you can sympathize with her desperate attempts to
connect with this misanthrope.) George and Val make a cameo appearance that will blow the minds of long-time fans. And Lisa,
Buddy's befuddled soul-mate, resurfaces in a highly altered state (Bagge lets his characters change and grow, just like so
called real life.) "HATE!" was one of the funniest, most satisfying comics of the '90's. If you are a fan of Kevin Smith's
movies, you should get all of Bagge's books immediately.

am working and teaching on CAD topics in architecture design. One of my lecture was 'introduction to computer and information
systems', and I'll begin a new course fall semester that name is 'computer modelling in architectural design'in my own faculty.I
saw it in a bookseller. So, i think this book will be essential reference for me and my graduate students, if i get one.
I suggest all my collegues. However, it is not cheap for a Eastern European instructure like me. I wish i could buy it before
