This book was an indispensable resource throughout my entire non-contested, Colorado divorce. The book comes with a CD including all the forms you'll need (saving you money as the form packet at the courthouse costs money), plus a helpful overview of the entire process, great advice and words of caution (regarding things I would have certainly overlooked or realized too late!), and step-by-step instructions on how to fill out the forms. Thanks to this book, I never had to consult a lawyer or mediator, and saved lots of time and money. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is pursuing a non-contested divorce in Colorado! Good luck.

A Great Help

This book is full of helpful information. It does have all of the legal forms in it, but even if you are using attorneys, it is a helpful tool for understanding the entire process, and to help ensure you get details taken care of that you may have otherwise missed. I read the book, my ex read the book, and I have unfortunately loaned it to several friends.

I hated chemistry in Highschool and College. Later, when I needed to learn more about this subject this is the book I picked. Simply put, the best text on Chemistry I have ever seen, have read it twice and constantly refer to it!

The History of the Rock

Gibraltar is one of those micro-countries that make traveling in Europe so much fun. A huge limestone promontary at the toe of Iberia, only miles away from Morocco and in plain sight of the Atlas Mountains, Gibraltar has been a British possesion since 1713, when was won from Spain by England's Admiral Rooke during the War of the Spanish Succession. Although Spain has been claiming it back ever since, Spain itself only held Gibraltar for a comparatively brief period - until the 15th century, the Muslims occupied it (Gibraltar is an Arab name). And if we go even further back we find Gibraltar has a place in Phoenecian, Greek, Roman, Vandal and Gothic culture. The best bits of this biography deal with Governor Elliot's defense of the epic siege of 1781-83; a moment of unalloyed glory for Britain during the otherwise traumatic Wars of the American Revolution. The narrative cuts off in the 1960s, when Franco was pressuring Britain by blocking off the land frontier with Spain; since then the border has re-opened and the "Gibraltar question" remains unanswered.

Reveals the Reality of the Experience of the Holy Spirit

this is an amazing book, ranking up there with Buber's 'Ecstatic Confessions', Kapleau's 'Three Pillars of Zen', and the 1960's film 'Holy Ghost People', as being a valuable collection of authentic religious experience. Thankfully, African Americans have preserved the experience of the Holy Spirit described in this book in Gospel Music. The traditions described in this book deserve to be revived and preserved, i.e. 'the mourner's bench', and singing in a circle out in a field at night. It seems to me this book helps to show that we are all slaves to the world and society until freed by the holy spirit.

Bradford never seizes to amaze. His books cannot be put down; they have to be read in one seating. Only Runciman is comparable, although there are quite a few British historians, who do write quality unfictionalized historical books accessible by the lay-person.

Ernle Bradford might have been an amateur historian, but he was also a well educated naval officer who lived and fought in WWII and had lots of experience in life, war and the Meditteranean basin. He wrote clearly, laid out facts, did not improvise or forge history. His thinking was totally rationalistic and his cause-and-effect arguments very tight. He paid tribute to his primary sources by remaining succinct and clear, making a synthesis that spoke with immediacy to the modern mind. His writing is anatomical, scientific and at the same time an easy-read, possessing an unbeatable combination of qualities.

For anyone with romantic illusions about what crusades and crusaders were all about, this is a must read. Bradford reads like a faithful Catholic, he certainly is sympathetic to Pope Innocent but he trully understands the point of the underdog, the inhabitant of the ran-sacked Constantinople. He also explains well all the subtleties of politics that led to the crusade and dominated the progress of its events.

Unfortunately the sincerely faithful and naive in the worldly ways failed to set the tone of the crussades. Instead wolves in sheep's clothing, motivated by GREED led their like, who butchered, plundered and raped their fellow Christians among others. It is very interesting to follow the fates of the leaders of the crusades and the crambling of their long-term plans.

The book moved both myself and my twelve-year old son to tears. Can't say the same for too many books out there. Surely, Bradford is a Britton who honours his country's character through his own amazing qualities. Reading him is a unique experience!

highly readable account of a heroic moment in European History

The "Great Siege", is the Siege of Malta in 1565, as the Turkish Ottoman Empire tried to expand further into the Mediterranean and up to Italy. The Ottomans had already conquered most of Eastern Europe.

The book, by a British historian named Ernle Bradford, is great! But unfortunately extremely difficult to get. It's not stocked on Amazon and second hand copies are rare. I was lucky and got mine second hand off Amazon for 20 bucks plus shipping, back in April. It's a book I'd always had a wish to read, since seeing a review years ago.

The historical background to the siege, and an abbreviated discussion can be found here online: Siege of Malta (1565) - Wikipedia.

The book uses all the contemporary accounts and puts them into a flowing narrative, that is really quite riveting. The main characters are the Grand Master of the Order of the Knights Hospitaller of St. John, (a fighting religous order who also maintained hospitals! Go figure.), Jean de Valette, the Turkish leader , Mustafa Pasha, and his Tripoli ally Turgot Reis.

The Turkish invaders really should have won the day as they had vastly more men. They were stymied by their own infighting, some bad tactical decisions (especially opening the siege by trying to capture the Fort of St. Elmo's), and by the heroic defense of the Christian defenders who travelled to Malta, and the Maltese fighters. The violence level is appalling. It was a bad idea to be captured, by either side!

It's a great, highly readable story, if you can get the book. I hope it gets re-issued soon.

Absorbing, well told history of the most dramatic battle of the Knights of St John, the great siege of Malta in 1565.
Outnumbered 5 to 1 by Ottoman Turk invaders of Malta, the island defenders achieved their greatest victory, and the last victory of the ancient order of St. John. A balanced analysis of both attacker and defender perspectives, the subject not without its parallels in the modern world. Carefully researched and brilliantly recounted, it is good reading history.
