Wandering to Glory was what I have been seeking... information on Evans "Tramp" Brigade. The stories written by the actual troops were very useful and painted a very good picture of what this General and his companies did during the Civil War as well as what went on between the General and his troops as well as his commanding officers.

Very little information on this General and this brigade can be found on the web. This book was very well researched and written.

All of Bentley Boyd's books are wonderful. I have bought all of them and donated them to the library and have a set at home. What a wonderful resource! What an interesting way for people to learn information.

This book is wonderfully funny. Even after eight years of reading and rereading, Water and Power never fails to make me smile, and occasionally laugh out loud. Greg Boyd is an American treasure.

In 1983 in the village of Anvik, a young Eskimo boy, Kano, must overcome his fear of hunting alone. Story explains how Kano overcomes his fear against the small pox and learns much from his elder. A story of facing one's fears while growing up in Alaska.

I thought this was a really cool poetry book. I am a huge fanatic for sports and I love them. That made this book just that much better. My favorite poem from this book was called "Solitary Practice". It is a fairly short poem. It's about a basketball player that's doing really good and wondering why he can't do this in a game. Although that's my favorite there are many more good ones. There is quite a variety on the sports. They have from basketball and baseball to track and surfing. Even though I love basketball I still loved all these different types of poems and I'm sure you would to if you read it.

Authored by an expert applied mathematician in atmospheric and oceanic fluid physics, the book is an excellent source for researchers in this field.

A very informative book with personal interviews of the leading ladies. Wonderful photos!

Fabulously written and illustrated look at various species of whales. Many colorful illustrations are labeled and some show scale. This is an entertaining and educational book! Karen Woodworth-Roman, Children's Science Book Review

I use this book for my students ESL class. It works as a great texbook because it includes speaking, reading, spelling, writing, and learning new words! This is the ideal book for children of all ages. It includes everything! I definately reccomend this book.

The best way to engage anyone's interest is to connect information to something that has attracted their attention. In this enjoyable book, Highlights for Children Science Editor, Jack Myers, takes on children's questions about the everyday world around us. Each question and answer take a half to a full page, and are accompanied by lively drawings to improve the reader's interest.

Unless you are a scientist, you're bound to pick up some useful information here. In my case, I didn't know that while aluminum oxidizes it forms a protective coating that stops the oxidation from continuing.

It's challenging to know how technical or how simple to make the answers. For the most part, Myers created a very nice balance.

Here are some of my favorite questions from the book:

"What makes popcorn pop?"

"Since salt is not hot, how does it melt ice and snow?"

"If heat makes things expand and cold makes them contract, why does water expand when you freeze it?"

"If we have two eyes, how come we don't see double?"

"I pushed my finger into a soap bubble but it didn't pop. Why not?"

"How come if you go into the bathroom to sing it sounds better than when you are in the bedroom or anywhere else?"

"If the world is round, wouldn't the people in the southern part be upside down?"

"I've always wondered how the shape of a rainbow is formed."

One of the strengths of this book is that a child can find out an answer for her- or himself, or they can seek out an adult for more explanation. Now with the Internet, either one can go on and find out even more. Having uncovered how much there is to know, it is likely that many will develop a greater interest in science. I wish science were taught this way in schools. Also, a child with a limited imagination may find these questions helpful in stimulating new thoughts.
