How Should We Talk about Religion? is an anthology of essays by fourteen esteemed scholars concerning the fundamental question: how should we talk about religion, whether regarding our own religion or the faiths of others? Taking its genesis from a year 2000 seminar that examined that very question, How Should We Talk about Religion is written in the languages of a variety of academic disciplines, the essays explore the Christian experience in Spanish America, the intersection between religion and philosophy, the definition of "fundamentalism" in religious discourse, monotheism versus pluralism, a look at the meaning of geometry in Islamic art, and much more. A welcome contribution to religious studies reference shelves, due to its meticulous cross-examination of how to properly frame debates of the most profound magnitude.

Living in upstate NY, the Hudson is a majestic presence flowing by on it's way to the city. I'd been to the source, and parts here and there, but this book was an amazing opportunity to travel the entire length of the river, see the sights and get to know the many characters of the river. This is one of those great books that make you curl up and escape....and wish you were right there in the canoe!

A Litany of Sins in the Airline Industry
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-01-28
This book is a must for anyone with an interest in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)! The author successfully blends the theory of OHS, an often neglected area of Human Resource Management (HRM), with interesting and relevant case studies illustrating the practice and implementation, or lack thereof, of OHS policy. The author presents a thorough explanation and introduction of OHS and HRM policy and theory in the first half of the book, before contextualising this with case study illustrations set in the airline, call centre and nuclear power industries. The nuclear power and airline industry case studies, in particular, reveal some worrying and thought provoking examples of the failure of OHS policy in the workplace. The author suggests that these failures not only put employees at risk, but also customers and the general public, highlighting the need for organisations to take the health and safety culture seriously. The call centre case study illustrates a blatant disregard for employee safety, intimating that call centre organisations have a vested interest in ignoring employee health by choosing to encourage "burn-out", before replacement of staff. This book is not written in "traditional", dry, academic prose; instead the author uses a refreshing, almost conversational style. This makes it equally accessible to the academic and practitioner communities, and makes for absorbing reading, and is a particularly useful source of reference for students and researchers in this field.

I highly recommend this book to any reader who loves inspirational romances! Each story combines romance, love, relationships and Christian faith. "Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace" by Veda Boyd Jones conquers love at first sight and its consequences. In Sally Laity's "Once Upon a Dream" the fact that love is not just for the young is dealt with elegantly. "Something Old, Something New" by Yvonne Lehman proves that matchmakers know a thing about love. Louree Lough's "Wrong Church, Wrong Wedding" shows that accidents are not always bad. Each of these stories are great, but "Speak Now.." and "Wrong Church..." are my favorites! Read this book now!

This has become one of our 18-month old daughter's absolute favorites. We read it to her every night before bed, either before or after her other favorite, I Love Mommy, also by Lizi Boyd. The illustrations are beautiful and cheerful and the storyline is simple and easy to follow. The whole thing unfolds like an ordinary day, which in the life of an 18-month old or the parent of one, is usually pretty extraordinary. We highly recommended this book.

We love this book as much as we love its companion, I Love Daddy. The frogs are so charming and adorable and the characters feel so real and accessible and far from precious. Our 18-month old asks for this book every night before bed. We highly recommend it to parents and kids of all ages.

AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN CAN HEAL
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-10
This book is long overdue, for years the sexual abuse of African-American women and girls has been largely ignored by white and black communities. Sexual abuse and racism go hand-in-hand, yet myths persist that sexually abused African-American women and girls are traitors to black men and boys if they refuse to accept black male sexual abuse is acceptable, because black males experience racism. Sexual abuse is not separate from racism it is interlinked and this book shows African-American women and girls how they can seek help and heal from the devasation of sexual abuse. It is about African-American women and girls who refuse to be victims but are survivors. A must read for all who are involved in challenging male sexual violence perpetrated upon women and girls of all ethnicities and cultures.

Gorgeously illustrated by Eujin Kim Neilan, Imagine a Dragon is a children's picturebook about the many myths behind the magical, fantastic beast that is the dragon. From the serpent of Apep that attacked the sun god Ra every night according to Egyptian lore, to the Norse dragon Nidhoggr that gnawed at the roots of the great tree Yggdrasil, to East Asian dragons that regulated the weather, Imagine a Dragon spans the gamut of multicultural dragon lore. An especial treat for young dragon lovers, though the abundance of text makes Imagine a Dragon ideal for readers who are just about ready to move beyond picturebooks.

I have long studied Operational Policies for Batch Extractive Distillation columns. This is one of the best single sources of information I have come across. It is written as such that the author knows me personally. I would recommend this to any ChE that must gain additional information about the complexities fo batch distillation.
