Great interactive fun for reading

Review Date: 2000-05-04
This rollicking, rhyming picture book features familiar animals joining a jolly parade one by one. The exuberant watercolors by Demarest lend a sense of forward motion, and makes the reader feel like a part of the parade.

This noisy preschool book is great interactive fun for reading; to a group or one-on-one. Kids don't have to be asked twice to help out with the rambunctious animal noises. It's a fun book that will make kids happy, what more can you ask of a storytime book?

"The Animal's Song" is by Springfield, Missouri's own humorous poet, David Harrison.

A sane, compassionate look at global warming
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-07
I beg you to read this book! It illustrates the effect of global warming on the ecology of a little known local culture (the Inupiat) who live at the Arctic edge of the world. The author brings understanding of the world's precarious future to the reader's awareness in a completely understandable way. Making three expeditions with atmospheric chemist, Dr. Paul Shepson and several graduate students, Lourie captures the essence of the Inupiat people, their livelihood, modern culture, and the effects of global warming on their way of life, as well as what global warming has in store for our earth. Color plus B&W photographs embellish this intimate story along with maps and diagrams which encourage the reader's perception of the crisis. Includes index, glossary, resource pages as well as an inspirational "What You Can do to Fight Global Climate Change."

A groundbreaking treasury

Now celebrating its 40th anniversary edition, Are Your Running With Me, Jesus? by ordained Episcopalian priest Malcolm Boyd is a groundbreaking treasury. Daring to break with the formal patterns of the era, Boyd's prayers are in a conversational tone, centered upon Jesus Christ as a compassionate Savior to whom one can pray about anything, lofty or trivial. This new edition of Are You Running With Me, Jesus? has the more outdated linguistic forms updated, and the prayers made obsolete by topicality removed. A true devotional classic, highly recommended for all Christians. "When a mind is closed and communication has ceased, how may a person be reached? If one's heart has never learned to love, or has stopped loving, how may the heart be taught, Jesus?"

An Inspirational Deed by an Inspirational Artist

Review Date: 2000-06-04
This book Arthur Boyd At Bundanon sent me off on a wonderful journey of discovery. Although I had been aware of and admired the art of Arthur Boyd, the celebrated Australian artist, I did not have much idea of him as a person. This book by Janet Mckenzie, is very well researched, and is one of those books which stand up to several revisitings, over several years. The story it reveals, of a truly extraordinary man, an artist with an amazing insight into the modern world, and a passionate love of his homeland, Australia, is skilfully told. Arthur Boyd towards the end of his life decided to gift his most most beloved property, home and studio, named Bundanon, to the Australian people. The purpose he had in mind was to provide an artist's haven. This beautiful place in Australia, beside the Shoalhaven River, has been a huge source of inspiration not only to Arthur Boyd, but also to many other noted Australian artists. As well as the insight into the creative mind and soul of Arthur Boyd that the text of this book so sensitively and respectfully gives, there are a number of very wonderful reproductions of many of Arthur Boyd's paintings. These are well chosen and placed, and not surprisingly comprise the heart of the book.

Highly Recommended for Those Who Are Diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and/or Likely to Have AS!

Asperger Syndrome, the Swan & the Burglar written by Brenda Boyd is logically well-organized and easy to read! Mainly because she indicated clearly Ryan who played the lead had various symptoms of AS which he didn't recognize until Jim Shepherd, the grandfather of Kev, Ryan's closest friend saw through Ryan's AS. Certainly Ryan had been unfairly treated, misunderstood, and discriminated by Danny, his mean brother and others. But at the same time he was surrounded by understanding people such as Maria, his elder sister, the Cantadora, Kev, his parents, and Jim. On top of that, his `Masterplan' seemed to reinforce his search for his true identity. The story would end more happily if only Danny wasn't so cross-grained, though.
Overall, Ryan's AS diagnosed by Jim,the specialist of AS enhanced the climax of the story, that was for sure! That's why I strongly recommend you to read Asperger Syndrome, the Swan & the Burglar! Therefore, you'll understand better what AS is like!

This book is great if you are looking for basic information on any ghost town or "live" town in Colorado. With it's county-by-county format, it is always easy to find the information that you might be looking for, and it offers great little pieces of information for every imaginable location that has existed or still does in Colorado.
