Remember going through nursing school and the MOUNDS of reading to be done? This book is the best thing since sliced bread! Very to the point, great to do care plans by. A short sentence on patho, obj and subj signs and symptoms, tests related to illness; medical, pharm, and nursing care, I could go on and on. Great job on this one. I wouldn't do without it.

During my 2nd year of nursing school, many of the test questions were from this book. Has helpful rationales with each questions that helped me to understand the concepts.

Here is the lowdown. Medical-Surgical Nursing is alot of material. This book puts the Data in Outline Form and highlights critical and key points. It comes with a diskette, I find most helpful in verifying my level of understanding. I bought the Lipincott's series as well but this is the book I use. I rarely refer to my textbook, because the narrative sometimes gets to be too much, leaving me swimming in facts. This book will NOT do that to you.

Excellent book for nursing students

This book and disk together form an invaluable aid to nursing students. The book is written in a clear, quick and easy to follow note type format. It includes teaching tips, nursing notes and nursing interventions as well as critical thinking questions. The disk has a series of NCLEX type questions that can be accessed in either study or test mode. One of a series of worth-the-effort to own books.

I remember seeing the movie "The Year of Living Dangerously" several years ago. Merdeka Square gave me the chance to really understand what happened. My understanding is that most of this book is solidly based on fact and the personal experiences of the author - this gives the book an air of solid authenticity that is sadly lacking in thrillers written by others who lack direct personal experience in the areas they write about. Collison's experiences as an intelligence agent in Indonesia at this time shine through, making this one of the most compelling reads I have had.

Merdeka Square is the first of Kerry's Indonesia Trilogy (chronologically) and is a sad indictment of both the Australian and Indonesian governemnts of the day. Kerry's characters are larger than life and you will enjoy trying to figure out who is actually being portrayed by whom. Merdeka Square is basically a factual account cleverly inserted into a piece of fiction. Kerry is a former A.S.I.S. operative and has really walked the wire in places considering he is still bound by the Official Secrets Act. Kerry has a unique feel for Indonesia and his "apolitical" narrative makes the events covered by Merdeka Square all the more chilling. Once you have read this book you will have to buy the other two - Jakarta in particular will shock you with its eerie reflection in today's newspapers.

When I was in Australia in 1998 I purchased and read all three books of the Indonesian Trilogy by Kerry Collison. I was so impressed by the books that I have been trying to obtain copies for gifts. The author obviously has inside knowledge of Indonesia and his ability to predict future events, some of which have since taken place, is remarkable.

The books are well written and exciting. I rate them among the very best "secret service" novels that I have read.

I bought this book (used) for 50 cents at the library. It turns out to be a very good spending. My to-be-3 years old son just loves it and asks for it day after day. Be careful when you read the part "the dad asked the little boy say sorry to Mom" since my son turned to be very upset and about to cry the 1st time when I read that part. I had to put some wording by myself to make him understand the little boy is in good intention. It all depends on how you want your kids to comprehend this story.

After a few times of reading this book, my son started to pack his own backpack. To our surprise, he only put his own "important" stuff in the bag and never touched our things without any warning.

Not only did I enjoy reading the book, but I practically memorized it by the second reading! I definitely recommend this book for all parents/teachers who handle elementary-aged children.

I love to travel to places where I can hang out at the pool naked and read a book. I also enjoy nude beaches and other outdoor activities that afford a place to lose the clothing.
I own all editions of this book and I have to say that this update was well worth the wait. Michael Boyd has gone through with a fine-tooth comb, weeding out locations you would never visit anyway, and updated info about naturist areas worldwide. I was pleasantly surprised when information about our local nude hangout, which has a tendency to move around as authorities and others stick their noses in our business, was absolutely accurate.
Boyd has also taken the time to research all of these areas and added latitude/longitude coordinates so you can pull them up on Google Earth. I can't even imagine how long that took.
There are hundreds of bed & breakfasts, campgounds, tours and sailing trips listed in the book.
If you like to get naked and like to travel, you'll love this book.

Simply the Best, Nothing Else Compares

Review Date: 2007-11-12
This book is simply the best. I've collected naturist guidebooks of all sorts over the past two decades, and most of them fall short when it comes to telling you how to find a particular nude beach, leaving you to do a lot of work on your own if you want to figure out how to get there. In short, most nude beach guides seem to be a lot of fluff and pretty photos but serve no real practical purpose because they are lacking in specific directions. Not so with Naked Places. The directions are precise and on target, even for places abroad.

There are three features of this book that I find particularly outstanding. One, GPS coordinates. Even if you don't use a GPS device in reality (I never have), knowing the coordinates makes online mapping and getting a sense of where you are going much easier. Two, website references, mainly for foreign listings. The editor liberally refers readers to various sites to find out more information about public transit, town maps, beach photos, etc. Third, organization. For countries like France and Spain that have numerous nude beaches, sites are listed in geographic order. This makes it easier to select among nearby beaches if you don't have time to visit all of them (and you won't in Europe, where nude beaches are exponentially more common than in the U.S.!).

I've used past editions to find nude beaches all over the U.S. West Coast and throughout Canada (Montreal, Toronto, Halifax and Vancouver) -- yes, I'm a bit of a nude beach bum -- and when I went to Berlin and Munich in 2004, Naked Places (previous edition) let me know exactly how to get to these liberal German cities' multiple nude sunbathing areas, including which S-bahn or U-bahn to take and the name of the stop. I most recently used the current edition earlier this year to explore about half a dozen incredible nude beaches on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. The directions and descriptions were right on the mark, and I wish I had had more time to visit more places in the book -- there are about 40 beaches just for Spain. Plus, I stayed at a wonderful gay clothing-optional guesthouse near Sitges that I probably would not have known about without the book. Even though this book is marketed as a gay man's guide, it really doesn't matter if you are gay or straight, male or female as far as beaches are concerned. If you like to travel and explore bare beaches, this book is the best nude beach guide out there. My only gripe is that new editions come out very infrequently, like four years between the 4th and 5th. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic book that every gay traveler should own. Nothing else compares.

I bought "The Night of the Fireflies" for my niece, who, like Miko, had never seen such a wonder. She was as entranced by the idea of little flying lights as she was by the wonderful story. The book exposed her to a different culture (At each page we pointed out differences between Miko's world and ours, i.e., on page 3 Miko has laterns lighting her bedroom with her bed on the floor and we see Japanese characters on her walls that we couldn't interpret; but, Miko also has familiar toys and a pet kittie!).

We concluded that America, too, needs a special night devoted to the fireflies so we can experience this magical gift from nature.

We love Karen Winnick's books and art (although she used a different illustrator for this story). Yokito Ito, the illustrator, did some beautiful drawings and we thought her work complemented the story very well.

Highly recommended book.

I have read this book to many elementary school classes. They always enjoy it. Many of these students are from broken homes or have experienced violence from the male figure in their home. This demonstrates such a wonderful father having fun with his children. The kids enjoy dreaming of the fun games played with a great dad, just as this book illustrates.

This simple little picture book contains so much warmth, it's a wonder you don't start to sweat a little when you pick it up. "Octopus Hug" is a charming look at the games a father plays with his children when he's left in charge for the evening. The games are wonderfully active -- and interactive. The dad gets down on the floor with Becky and Jesse (the children in the book are actually named after two of Laurence Pringle's own children), pretends to be different animals and objects, and encourages the children to join in. The fun is still going on when the mom returns home, so she gets to experience the games, too.

The illustrations by Kate Salley Palmer put this adorable story over the top. I especially like the way the father is portrayed; he reminds me of a stainless, free-of-murderous-impulses OJ Simpson. His love for his children and his excitement at being able to entertain them are written all over his face.

I've had the pleasure of meeting author Laurence Pringle a couple of times, and this book is a pretty good representation of the man himself; gentle and fun-loving, with a slightly kooky sense of humor. Word has it that a sequel, possibly titled "Bear Hug," is in the works!

Too often, children's books focus on just the mothers or are absent of any adults at all (unless they are bears or elephants) In the book Octopus Hugs, the father is a gentle, caring man who actively plays with his children.

He invents games that are fun and engaging. My children have wanted to play Octopus Hugs, Put-A-Quarter-In and Animal Bridge for weeks. This book is an outstanding story as well as an activity book.

The pictures are very well done. It is without a doubt the most positive African-American father I have EVER seen in a children's book.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It is well worth your time and money.

These simple, energetic poems dance, bounce, and swirl across the pages, drawing even the youngest kids in, making them laugh and use their imaginations. A fun way to expose kids to classic paintings (as well as poetry), letting them find enjoyment in the unfamiliar and surprise in the ordinary. What a pleasure to see children as young as three pointing to the pictures and finding their own "poetic" words. A great circle time book or gift.

The rythmic simplicity of the poems should reach young readers and help them to appreciate a work of art. The choice and use of colors with the different poems should help the young reader to retain both the images and the vocabulary. In all, I found Paint Me a Poem by Justine Rowden to be a very interesting and enjoyable experience.

The journey to Mars continues for John Wells and the crew of Epsilon. With a successful launch completed, the three person crew has an 18 month trip to the red planet and back ahead of them. Can they endure the stress and loneliness of 18 months without loved ones? While they are gone, Earth will once again be tested by alien visitors and questionable religious ideas. Are the spiders truly aliens? Is there an unknowable god and is Malcolm Raines his prophet? Who are the mother seed? What about Nick? Will Amy recognize her place in this saga and the have the courage to persevere? Lots of questions and lots revealed in this wonderful follow up to The Evidence.

The Proof is most enjoyable. Boyd did an excellent job of building on the plot laid out in The Evidence. Areas that were weak in the first book were really tightened up, which brought the characters to life. The story flowed smoothly, especially the last half, which held more twists and turns than I ever expected. Many of my original theories were confirmed, but there were several unexpected events. It was obvious in The Evidence Boyd has a talent for telling stories, but it really shined in The Proof. His personal experience, has really made a story that could have been far fetched and unrealistic, completely believable. A very good book, and well deserving of the praise it has received.

In my review of "The Evidence," I expressed disappointment in that the book, while exciting, could not stand alone. None of the major plot lines was resolved; the book simply ended with no conclusion of any sort. It seemed as though the second book could merely be appended to the end of the first, and nothing would be lost.

The second book in the series, "The Proof," addresses these problems perfectly. Many of the plot points in the book are resolved adequately, and Boyd still manages to leave some bigger questions open for the third installment. Importantly for the author, it left me feeling satisfied as a reader, and yet eager to read the next book to find the answers to these larger questions left open at the end of "The Proof."

The plot is interesting to any fan of largely realistic science fiction. Boyd's military and NASA background provides for as realistic a picture as possible of what space flight to Mars might really be like, and provides some reasonably realistic situations that happen to the main characters along the way. Additionally, he delves into the human side of such a mission, particularly the psychological effects of such intense periods of isolation, for Christians and non-Christians alike, as well as creating believable situations for his family back on Earth.

Lastly, he manages to present many points of Christian faith in such a way as to not alienate non-believers, as so many works of Christian fiction can be prone to do. John's faith is plainly visible to those around him, but Boyd chooses to have John lead by example rather than by forcing words on others, and explores both his strengths and weaknesses a believer.

Excellent page turner! This second in the series of three "Mars Hill Classified" is as good the the first and picks up where THE EVIDENCE left off.

Thrilling story line, great character development, realistic human emotions and yet with a Christian message that is not pushy, overly righteous or intrustive. God is real while the story line is pure fiction but in a way that leaves the reader saying, "wow--this could really happen."

Many twists and turns that keep the reader tuned.

Austin Boyd reminds me of Dan Brown as a story teller, but better. Brown's fiction it too perfect. This is genuine, human. Boyd's technical detail also reminds me of Brown. He knows his stuff and it shows.

`The Proof,' Austin Boyd's second novel, is a great read!! It is a follow up to `The Evidence,' and is the second installment of what will be a trilogy. Wow, what a wild ride--it works in a lot of the kinds things you want to find in a good high-tech thriller and then some...Terrorist Attacks, Deep Conspiracy, Super-Clandestine Ops, Aliens, Space Travel, Life on Mars, Cloning, and much more. Compared to the first installment, Boyd seems to be coming into his own with this second book in that things tie together better (though it really helps to have read the first book). Pacing and flow are nice, along with the kind of page-turning set-ups that make you read on even though it's way past bed-time.

The narrative is well-structured, and the characters are developed properly with a good level of complexity as opposed to one-dimensional ones that end up being boring in the end (as is often the case in other thrillers). As a reader you get to have your suspicions with a sense of what lies ahead and behind it all as you try to figure things out in the unfolding of the story. In the end however, as it should be, things are not always what they seem and as you finish up the book you can't wait for the final installment, which will hopefully be out soon.

One of the really extraordinary aspects of `The Proof' is how Boyd is effectively able to weave a religious dimension into this hard-hitting techno thriller. The main character, astronaut, interplanetary traveler, and deep space assistant to the federal agent trying to unravel the terrorist conspiracy, has deeply held Christian beliefs. He often reflects and analyzes from this religious vantage point to help him make important decisions, and calls upon his deep faith get him through difficult and trying times (emotionally and physically). I very much like the way Boyd works in the character's belief system as a substantive guiding force for how he is to behave in the world, make sense of it, find strength, overcome obstacles, etc.. Thus, Boyd is able to portray quite effectively how a serious and profound Christian world view can not only co-exist, but be an integral and foundational element for negotiating one's life in today's very sophisticated and complex high-tech world. That's what makes `The Proof' truly unique and original!

I worked in the Lower Pecos region with a group of students last summer, and had the honor of meeting Carolyn Boyd. She took time to give our students personal guided tours of the cave paintings, and they were enthralled. She is a gifted communicator, and passionate about her work. These same qualities come through in her book.

The first time she saw these paintings, she was an artist with no experience in archaeology. Her art background allowed her to see what others had missed; the myriad elements were part of a single canvas, composed by a single artist, invested with purpose and meaning. At that moment she held insights the 'experts' lacked, but she did not have the credibility or credentials to convince anyone. Rather than giving up, she went back to school and got her PhD in Anthropology, writing her Doctoral Dissertation on this cave art. She is now recognized as the world's formost expert on these paintings.
