After a few times of reading this book, my son started to pack his own backpack. To our surprise, he only put his own "important" stuff in the bag and never touched our things without any warning.

Best resource I have for my travelsReview Date: 2006-07-05
I own all editions of this book and I have to say that this update was well worth the wait. Michael Boyd has gone through with a fine-tooth comb, weeding out locations you would never visit anyway, and updated info about naturist areas worldwide. I was pleasantly surprised when information about our local nude hangout, which has a tendency to move around as authorities and others stick their noses in our business, was absolutely accurate.
Boyd has also taken the time to research all of these areas and added latitude/longitude coordinates so you can pull them up on Google Earth. I can't even imagine how long that took.
There are hundreds of bed & breakfasts, campgounds, tours and sailing trips listed in the book.
If you like to get naked and like to travel, you'll love this book.
Simply the Best, Nothing Else ComparesReview Date: 2007-11-12
There are three features of this book that I find particularly outstanding. One, GPS coordinates. Even if you don't use a GPS device in reality (I never have), knowing the coordinates makes online mapping and getting a sense of where you are going much easier. Two, website references, mainly for foreign listings. The editor liberally refers readers to various sites to find out more information about public transit, town maps, beach photos, etc. Third, organization. For countries like France and Spain that have numerous nude beaches, sites are listed in geographic order. This makes it easier to select among nearby beaches if you don't have time to visit all of them (and you won't in Europe, where nude beaches are exponentially more common than in the U.S.!).
I've used past editions to find nude beaches all over the U.S. West Coast and throughout Canada (Montreal, Toronto, Halifax and Vancouver) -- yes, I'm a bit of a nude beach bum -- and when I went to Berlin and Munich in 2004, Naked Places (previous edition) let me know exactly how to get to these liberal German cities' multiple nude sunbathing areas, including which S-bahn or U-bahn to take and the name of the stop. I most recently used the current edition earlier this year to explore about half a dozen incredible nude beaches on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. The directions and descriptions were right on the mark, and I wish I had had more time to visit more places in the book -- there are about 40 beaches just for Spain. Plus, I stayed at a wonderful gay clothing-optional guesthouse near Sitges that I probably would not have known about without the book. Even though this book is marketed as a gay man's guide, it really doesn't matter if you are gay or straight, male or female as far as beaches are concerned. If you like to travel and explore bare beaches, this book is the best nude beach guide out there. My only gripe is that new editions come out very infrequently, like four years between the 4th and 5th. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic book that every gay traveler should own. Nothing else compares.

We enjoyed it!Review Date: 2004-10-22
We concluded that America, too, needs a special night devoted to the fireflies so we can experience this magical gift from nature.
We love Karen Winnick's books and art (although she used a different illustrator for this story). Yokito Ito, the illustrator, did some beautiful drawings and we thought her work complemented the story very well.
Highly recommended book.

Dad's in Charge! Yay!!!Review Date: 2003-08-25
The illustrations by Kate Salley Palmer put this adorable story over the top. I especially like the way the father is portrayed; he reminds me of a stainless, free-of-murderous-impulses OJ Simpson. His love for his children and his excitement at being able to entertain them are written all over his face.
I've had the pleasure of meeting author Laurence Pringle a couple of times, and this book is a pretty good representation of the man himself; gentle and fun-loving, with a slightly kooky sense of humor. Word has it that a sequel, possibly titled "Bear Hug," is in the works!
An Outstanding Book for DadsReview Date: 2003-02-18
He invents games that are fun and engaging. My children have wanted to play Octopus Hugs, Put-A-Quarter-In and Animal Bridge for weeks. This book is an outstanding story as well as an activity book.
The pictures are very well done. It is without a doubt the most positive African-American father I have EVER seen in a children's book.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It is well worth your time and money.

Very Impressive follow up!Review Date: 2007-12-14
The Proof is most enjoyable. Boyd did an excellent job of building on the plot laid out in The Evidence. Areas that were weak in the first book were really tightened up, which brought the characters to life. The story flowed smoothly, especially the last half, which held more twists and turns than I ever expected. Many of my original theories were confirmed, but there were several unexpected events. It was obvious in The Evidence Boyd has a talent for telling stories, but it really shined in The Proof. His personal experience, has really made a story that could have been far fetched and unrealistic, completely believable. A very good book, and well deserving of the praise it has received.
Excellent SequelReview Date: 2007-07-21
The second book in the series, "The Proof," addresses these problems perfectly. Many of the plot points in the book are resolved adequately, and Boyd still manages to leave some bigger questions open for the third installment. Importantly for the author, it left me feeling satisfied as a reader, and yet eager to read the next book to find the answers to these larger questions left open at the end of "The Proof."
The plot is interesting to any fan of largely realistic science fiction. Boyd's military and NASA background provides for as realistic a picture as possible of what space flight to Mars might really be like, and provides some reasonably realistic situations that happen to the main characters along the way. Additionally, he delves into the human side of such a mission, particularly the psychological effects of such intense periods of isolation, for Christians and non-Christians alike, as well as creating believable situations for his family back on Earth.
Lastly, he manages to present many points of Christian faith in such a way as to not alienate non-believers, as so many works of Christian fiction can be prone to do. John's faith is plainly visible to those around him, but Boyd chooses to have John lead by example rather than by forcing words on others, and explores both his strengths and weaknesses a believer.
THE PROOFReview Date: 2007-06-19
Thrilling story line, great character development, realistic human emotions and yet with a Christian message that is not pushy, overly righteous or intrustive. God is real while the story line is pure fiction but in a way that leaves the reader saying, "wow--this could really happen."
Many twists and turns that keep the reader tuned.
Austin Boyd reminds me of Dan Brown as a story teller, but better. Brown's fiction it too perfect. This is genuine, human. Boyd's technical detail also reminds me of Brown. He knows his stuff and it shows.
Original, Unique, and a Great Read!!Review Date: 2006-11-11
The narrative is well-structured, and the characters are developed properly with a good level of complexity as opposed to one-dimensional ones that end up being boring in the end (as is often the case in other thrillers). As a reader you get to have your suspicions with a sense of what lies ahead and behind it all as you try to figure things out in the unfolding of the story. In the end however, as it should be, things are not always what they seem and as you finish up the book you can't wait for the final installment, which will hopefully be out soon.
One of the really extraordinary aspects of `The Proof' is how Boyd is effectively able to weave a religious dimension into this hard-hitting techno thriller. The main character, astronaut, interplanetary traveler, and deep space assistant to the federal agent trying to unravel the terrorist conspiracy, has deeply held Christian beliefs. He often reflects and analyzes from this religious vantage point to help him make important decisions, and calls upon his deep faith get him through difficult and trying times (emotionally and physically). I very much like the way Boyd works in the character's belief system as a substantive guiding force for how he is to behave in the world, make sense of it, find strength, overcome obstacles, etc.. Thus, Boyd is able to portray quite effectively how a serious and profound Christian world view can not only co-exist, but be an integral and foundational element for negotiating one's life in today's very sophisticated and complex high-tech world. That's what makes `The Proof' truly unique and original!

Inspiring storyReview Date: 2005-01-27
The first time she saw these paintings, she was an artist with no experience in archaeology. Her art background allowed her to see what others had missed; the myriad elements were part of a single canvas, composed by a single artist, invested with purpose and meaning. At that moment she held insights the 'experts' lacked, but she did not have the credibility or credentials to convince anyone. Rather than giving up, she went back to school and got her PhD in Anthropology, writing her Doctoral Dissertation on this cave art. She is now recognized as the world's formost expert on these paintings.
