Lizzie Borden: New Ideas, Information, and InsightsReview Date: 2004-01-16
But what really sets the book apart is its compelling suggestion that Lizzie may have been a victim of childhood incest (three papers focus exclusively on this idea). "The evidence, often the product of modern sociological, psychological, and clinical research, is persuasive and certainly provides us with a new way of looking at the crime," writes editor Jules Ryckebusch.
Indeed, the book's biggest virtue is its total departure from the usual did-she-or-didn't-she. I really couldn't put it down, although several spelling and grammatical errors detracted from my reading pleasure.

A much needed manualReview Date: 2000-07-11
Other recent books on about women rhapsodize or celebrate the female body, but this one explains it. This is not a roadmap or a geography, this is an owners manual-like an owners manual for a high performance, sleek and exciting sports car-and like any maintenance manual for an exotic and tempestuous machine, it makes for interesting reading even if you don't happen to own one.
As a practical matter this manual should be in the hands of all the owners-young to old-and read by all those who love them.

Excellent Practical and Realistic BookReview Date: 2002-10-24
More specifically, Alfred Montapert discusses 47 fundamental laws of life that every human being should master in order to maximize his or her full potential. Some of the laws that are discussed are the following: attitude, habit, motivation, success, creativity, self-decipline, prayer and meditation, freedom, responsibility, love, and heredity and environment. I have had this book in my possession for twelve years and have read it many times from beginning to end; I always come away with a different understanding about my life every time I read this book because there is so much insight into one's every day experiences. This is a book that you will never get tired of reading because its principles correspond with reality. If you apply these principles that Montapert explains, it is a guarantee that you will be successful at whatever you attempt to accomplish. Montapert is a very wise person, and he has put his understanding of life in this book as a gift to all who are willing to read it.

A Contemporary MasterpieceReview Date: 2000-04-12
Essentially the book contains the philosophical viewpoint of a Russian Esoteric Group at the turn of the 20th Century, which influenced Mouni Sadhu's early thinking. Sadhu in turn, developed the basic material gained from this group to produce this spiritual/esoteric masterpiece of a book which incorporated his later mature thinking. This included his work with Paul Sedir's Society of Spiritual Friendships, as well as Sadhu's acceptance of the great Indian Teacher Sri Ramana Maharishi of India as his Spiritual Master.
The book culturally was written at a time when it was believed that certain techniques (which are now freely written about elsewhere) should not be given to the general public via a book transmission. When this point is understood, it helps to make Sadhu's 'Tarot' much clearer in its approach to esoteric truth. Mouni Sadhu believed that if a person had the right moral and mental abilities this would enable them to understand the meaning of the lessons contained in the book. This may not a popular attitude today when instant information is expected and demanded of readers. But Sadhu wrote all his books with the intention of helping his readers to think deeply about what was being read and to practically experience where possible what he was describing from his own personal experiences.
The book is certainly not easy to follow, but to readers who persevere with the ideas and exercises contained in the book, benefits such as greater clarity of thought, a sense of personal direction and greater inner freedom are a few of the benefits of Sadhu's 'The Tarot'
