A MUST for Elk and Mule Deer Hunters
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-30
This hardcover book is a must for anyone, like myself, who loves to hunt elk and mule deer. Each state and province is separate in the book and each animal from the Boone and Crockett is listed by the state or province from which it was taken. I also found the book, COLORADO'S BIGGEST BUCKS AND BULLS and Other Great Colorado Big Game, Second Edition, to be of help when planning mule deer and elk hunts. The Records of North American Ek and Mule Deer book has excellent field photos and tons of statistical information about my two favorite animals. Plus, I liked the chapter written by Jim Zumbo.

The Goats Have My Vote

If you ever wondered where to hunt for wild sheep, Rocky Mountain goats and pronghorn, this is the book you must buy. I especially liked the illustration of the bighorn ram by Hayden Lambson the cover. This is an attractive book that is small enough to fit into my hunting backpack when hunting for these critters. Pronghorn are some of my favorite animals to track, so this book tells me that Wyoming is THE place to go for Boone and Crockett-quality animals. The book was written a few years ago but it is still a good place to start when doing your pre-season planning. I bought this book with the book COLORADO'S BIGGEST BUCKS AND BULLS AND OTHER GREAT COLORADO BIG GAME because I was in Colorado.

I am currently writing a report on the book of Ruth. I have also looked a J. Vernon McGee's book and Rubies from Ruth. This is by far has the most spiritual depth of all of them. I would highly suggest it. I plan on reading it cover to cover.

This is a powerful book that gives specific information that can help a person to change how they function in relationships and how they view others in relationships. It is a very empowering work. The many scenarios how to drive the points home. It explains the concepts that can help a couple to relate, be happy, and stay together. I've never read a book like it.

A fascinating book with Swiss rural locale, Parisian politicians and actresses, pretty women, bad men, secret scandal, complex but riveting plot, and lucid and easy prose. This was my first glimpse of this author, suggested in a travel publication for one who likes travel, and picked off a library shelf, and I immediately looked for all her other books. Others don't look as good, but "Death of a Dutch Uncle" was fine. I'm mighty glad I didn't miss this one.

This is a short book of surf stories--non ficition. Quotes, quips,observations--they all come out of a male gonzo mindset. Screamingly funny stuff. Sex drugs and waves. You can't read this thing without laughing. If you are a male it will remind you of what it was to be 15, 16, 17, in summer time--half crazy, every cell in your body on fire, a really neat time of life--even if you never surfed and live somewhere in idaho and have never seen a seagull. It's a perfect little book!

This has been a favorite of mine for forty years. A heart-warming story of the trials faced by a family traveling West on the Overland Trail in 1852; mixed with humor, romance, and a great deal of information about the trip itself.

A Beautiful Book for All Ages

I came across The Snow Angel while searching for a book to read to elementary students for Read Across America week. Although it is too long to hold the attention span of a classroom full of 1st graders, I fell in love with it. The simple idealism was gorgeous. It starts out, "Rose was a little girl whose eyes were full of dreams. Most people see things just as they are. Rose saw everything blanketed in dreams of what could be. The world was much more beautiful because of it." Rose lives in a town that has become so caught up in the little hassles of everyday life that they have forgotten how to dream. It teaches a lesson that everyone should learn, and is written in a clear voice that children will relate to and adults will wish for. It is the voice of someone who has not given up on changing the world.

Still significant stuff after fifty years

I first read Something About a Soldier more than thirty years ago, shortly after my first tour in the army. Although the book is set during WWII and my army days were the Cold War years, what Harris had to say - about the army, about life, about love and war, and innnocence and experience - was universal, and easy to relate to. Pvt Jacob Epp (aka Epstein) should be a classic character of contemporary literature. With a genius IQ and encyclopedic knowledge, 17 year-old Jacob's absolute innocence and inability to connect are nearly heartbreaking. Yet Harris's portrayal of Jacob - and of Joleen and Captain Dodd, who make up an odd love triangle - is laced too with a laugh-out-loud humor. And Harris's pronouncements on war and human nature are every bit as applicable today at they were over a half-century ago. After thirty years, I found the book still full of important insights, many of which I was too young to catch the first time through. I will probably re-visit this book one day. I sincerely hope another generation of readers will discover it one day. - Tim Bazzett, author of Soldier Boy: At Play in the ASA
