As a librarian, I have a fondness for, indeed a fascination for, good children's literature. I've loved Paddington since childhood,
and am pleased to see new Paddington stories out. Hopefully, there'll be some more full-length books as well. It is funny
that Michael Bond once said that he'd never go into Paddington's past in a book--yet he does here. No matter--this book is
a treat for the Paddington fan who's followed all the old books, finally explaining how Paddington was orphaned, how he came
to live with his aunt, even his original name in Peru. There are all sorts of little touches of this lovable, well-meaning,
and very polite little bear's personality throughout ("Suppose I hadn't gone to Paddington Station? I might have been named
'Mornington Cross'!") R. W. Alley's illustrations are charming, capturing our little friend's personality and charm. (Everyone
in the bookstore thought I was crazy...they kept hearing "Awww..." every time I turned the page.) And it's good to see Paddington's
spelling has improved so much! All in all, a treat for the lifelong fan and the newcomer. Now, when are we going to see Paddington
on the big screen?

This is a hilarious story of Paddinton, who decides to bake a cake while Mrs and Mr Brown are not at home. He makes a spectacular
mess which he decides to clean up with the vacuum. Unfortunately he sucks up the cake and when he reverses the vacuum, spews
it all over the kitchen. Luckily, he gets it all cleaned before Mr and Mrs brown return form town.

The appearance of this classic in solid hardcover reissue format will delight librarians whose collection holdings include
aging titles: the bright cover enhances this new edition Paddington Goes To Town, and will greatly appeal to modern generations
and will introduce them to the exploits of a small bear who journeys from 'darkest Peru' to join the Brown family in a series
of zany events.

I liked this book because it was funny, surprising, and happy. I liked it when Paddington fell into the river because it was
funny. I recommend this book for ages 6-9. If you can, try to read the whole Paddington series.

My four year-old enjoys this book very much. It is an oversized paperback with simple drawings (simpler than the original
books) but very enjoyable. Paddington causes mayhem at Buckingham Palace while going to meet the Queen - getting trapped
in a suit of armour and scaring the servants, falling into a vat of the cook's marmalade glaze. The Queen takes it all in
stride and at the end she and Paddington settle down to a chat over marmalade sandwiches. My daughter loves the Paddington
books after first seeing the old British series (with stop-motion puppet Paddington) that Disney originally brought over from
England many years ago. She finds the new, dubbed-into-American-accent Paddington cartoon a little confusing.

I am a quilter and ordered this book to read to my 3 year old granddaughter. I'm hoping she will want to be a quilter too.
:) She loves the quilt I made for her and I wanted her to know some of the history of how quilts came about. She loves this
book. The illustrations are simple and fun.It is sad from a grandparents point of view though.Papa has wondering feet so the
family moves a lot. Before they travel across country to Oregon, they are living "down the road from Grandma", and Grandma
is very sad when they move. The first piece of fabric Rebecca saves for her quilt is the handkerchief Grandma gave her when
they left and it still has grandma's tears on it.Shortly after this book arrived my daughter told me their family plans on
moving to the other side of the state-with my three grandchildren. So this part was very sad for me.
The book tells of all the fabric scraps Rebecca saves on their long journey across the country by wagon. Each fabric piece has a story behind it. The family has to walk so the wagon space can hold their belongings. When they get to Oregon it's so beautiful, it seems they may stay put this time.Rebecca's Mother helps her make a quilt with the fabric she has saved. The pattern they use is called "Wandering Foot", now known as "Turkey Tracks". The last page explains why the name was changed. It doesn't take long to read this book and older children could easily read it themselves. Besides giving some history on quilts,it reminds us there were days, not so long ago, where people didn't have lots of material possessions and life was quite different than today. Great book!

This is a really nice book. My dad & his brother grew up staying in Adirondack camps for children. Eventually they had summer
jobs there. My uncle wrote stories about it & my dad would read them and laugh alot. So I thought my dad would like this
book and he did. He even recognized some of the people in the photos. This book features a time when children were innocent
and summer seemed endless. If you collect books on the Adirondacks this should be added to your collection or use it to start
one.

This book is a great read! It lays out the rules for having credit cards and checking accounts that I wish I had when starting
out with my personal finances. I finally found out how checks are used by banks and department stores. And I like the ways
to protect myself from getting my personal information ripped off and my credit ruined. And the ways to get out of financial
trouble if your in it are wonderful.
This book also has many ways to get free money in the form of grants for college and starting a business that I find useful. Many foundations and the government have a lot of money they give away every year. There is a lot of free money out there that I didn't even know about, like credit cards and special financing deals for cars and furniture.
I always thought that a budget was about counting pennies, but I was wrong. The way to create a budget in the book is easy and makes sense. And there is a lot of good information about easy investing for the future. I loved it!
