A very good book on why and how to create a project management initiative. The author does a good job of building the business case for project management. He then goes on to explain how to build the initiative. He discusses learning programs, the skills necessary for successful project management, the processes, the tools, and practices useful in developing a project management program. Author does a good job of explaining what to do, why you should do it, and how to do it. I recommend it to anyone looking to improve their project management skills.

This book has proven to be a Godsend for our 4 and 2 year old boys - it converts them from rambunctious destroyers to nuzzling geeks just in time for bed. The stories are replete with quirky characters, the occasional moral and cute (but not too cute) depictions. I'll confess that some of these rich tales do extend into the 7 or 8 minute range but you'll hardly notice.

Legendary Russian poet Yevtushenko says, "Nowadays, poets have to know karate". Here, Bruce Bond delivers blow after poetic blow, immersing his readers into a series of precisely written portraiture that work on across the aural and visual spectrum. Modernist poetry is too often archly knowing in its subjective conceits; Bond, on the other hand, lets his precisely constructed imagistic waves accomodate the reader by challenging them to locate the borders of his framework within their own experience. This is poetry both deeply felt and egalitarian. The almost painful love of language in near every line, every stanza, are clearly mined from vital corners of Bond's heart. This is the kind of poetic document that points the way to renewed faith in poetry for a new century.

A Healthy Serving of Strong Poetry

John Jenkinson's Rebekah Order's Lasagna is a satisfying course (discourse?) in many ways, from its ample helpings of humor and poignancy, to its rich sense of metaphor, to its tightly crafted lines.
"Why Orville & Wilber Built an Airplane" likens life for some to a serene passage down
a long, easy hill on three-
pound Italian racers, scarcely
using any of their twenty-two
well-lubricated gears
while others
must dismount to walk
these leaden Western Flyers up
that hot steep slope, mugged
by heavy corduroys under a midsummer
sun...."
The metaphor is at once palpable and funny. It is the same zany, dead-on point of view that opens "How to Get Married":
We declare our love by barking
at the neighbor's dog, and vow
to eat the troubled thing
we've killed.
There are also well-crafted, quieter moment, such as in "Earth as a Place of Burial":
In brindled file, the Herefords, Angus amble
loose-muscled, heavy-boned, and plump
with the Flint Hills' fading grasses,
The pacing, tone, and content of such lines merge semmingly effortlessly in Jenkinson's poems. The humor comes easily, never forced, and the metaphors shimmer with a quirky freshness that makes the reading of Jenkinson's fine book a pleasure from first taste to last. This collection of poetry is a savory dish worth your indulgence. Bon appetite.

We started reading Duncan's War by Douglas Bond together as a family sometime during the fall. We became so excited about the story that we had to put the children under strict orders not to touch the book during the day, but they had to wait until family reading hour. "No Peeking!" was the command they would hear when their hand would reach slyly for the book on the end table.
Duncan's War is followed by The King's Arrow and then finally Rebel's Keep. This series, called the Crown and Covenant, follows the lives of the M'Kethe family during 17th Century Scotland as they endured brutal persecution at the hand of King James and King Charles. Those that remained loyal to King Jesus called themselves the Scottish Covenanters. This is the story of those who must wrestle with honoring God and applying His word while living amidst a government that is trying to obliterate Christianity.
As a reader, I was particularly struck with what I would do if I were in this situation with my own family. While reading these stories, I had to grapple with the scriptures as I put myself in their shoes. As a father and a Christian, I want to honor God and obey His word above all else. And yet I desire desperately to protect my children from all outside harm. In the story, the children watch their father's actions as he attempts to obey King Jesus above all others, and while they do not fully understand them at the time, they come to appreciate them more fully later as they grow and mature. The father never compromises his integrity in the midst of war. He clearly keeps the perspective that this life on earth is not the only one we live for. There is one to come. How we live and die here will show Whom it is we honor. This is how I want to live. I want to set a strong example for my children as I live out God's word even during difficult times. While reading these stories, I was struck once again that how we live in this life has implications in the next. We are to live for the Audience of One.

In the film "Wall Street" Gordon Gekko said "Greed is good, greed is right. Greed works!"
Gordon Gekko is unfit to tie the sandals of Alan Bond.
Bond built a $5Billion empire in Australia in the 1980's, starting in 1983 when he won the America's Cup. By the end of the 1990's he was bankrupt with millions of dollars hidden offshore in places that don't like to co-operate with bankrupcy trustees.
Bond performed a miracle - he lost money selling beer to Australians.
Paul Barry writes a rollicking yarn of a scoundrel of the highest order. A must read for the greedy or those who like to watch the greedy get away with it.

This book/diary is most worthwhile to all Bond afficionados, on several counts. For one thing, it is one of the most up-close and personal looks at Roger Moore you can hope to find. This journal was kept by him during the filming of his first effort as Bond. He really comes across as down-to-earth, warm, human, very humorous, a practical joker, and utterly lacking any pretence or arrogance. What a fantastic human being. But second, it is an in-depth look at the making of one of the immortal Bond movies. I tell you, after reading this book you will have a new appreciation for "Live and Let Die". The stunts, the locations, the women, the laughs, its all here. Its extremely readable and hard to put down. I found it ended all too soon. I wish he had written one for each movie. Very few books quite like this.

We don't usually pay attention to the things we are familiar with until they star to fail. The same applies to our body. We don't have to blame age or bad luck, when our body is simply reflecting emotions and stress through unbalances and stiffness.
This book is about balancing the body through a series of structural awareness exercises that focus on balance in how we walk, breathe, sit, and do simple movements. We will be amazed on how this fantastic and simple technique will teach you to relax and get rid of all accumulated tension and stress in your body, while you discover a new and more graceful way of being and move.
