Our family's favorite children's Christmas story.
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1998-12-16
Simple yet profound, clever, yet touching, this masterful little story is a gem. To a heartbroken young porcupine who doesn't get a part in the Baby in the Manger play because the other animals taunt that a prickly porcupine is unsuitable for such an honor, the mother's oft-quoted words, "You are the light of my life!" are consoling. The surprise ending is touching and beautiful. The story fosters sensitivity, is superbly illustrated and full of laughter and tears, and the mother's words will become part of your own family life.

Review Date: 1999-07-25
This outstanding book provides the reader a comprehensive overview of almost every mainstream investment tool available. It demistifies investment terminology without ever "dumbing down" or sounding condesending. The chapter on bonds is the best concise explanation that I have read anywhere. This title is highly recommended.

I liked this book because it is funny and nice. And I like it because it has animals camouflaging themselves. This book has a lot of words that help me learn about animals.

I started reading James Bond when JFK recommended Ian Fleming as one of his favorites. I have not missed a one since. This is a good read, maybe my favorite of the Young Bond series.

GARDNERs Pay Off
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-03-09
John Gardner's screenplay approach to writing novels pays off. This is his first novel based on the screenplay of a Bond film and he seems to have found his niche even though some of these events are a retelling from Ian Fleming's novel "Live and Let Die" with the same character being mangled again! However, this novel is based on Richard Maibaum and Michael G. Wilson's story for Timothy Dalton's James Bond in LICENCE TO KILL. It remarkably makes for an interesting read from an otherwise unsatisfactory film adding detail to scenes and venturing inside the head of the main character exploring his feelings and motivations. For John Gardner this is pretty inspiring stuff.

If it's a survey of eleven determined Massachusetts women which is needed, choose Lura Seavey's regional set of biographical sketches More Than Petticoats: Remarkable Massachusetts Women, outlining women who launched scientific and culinary revolutions in their fields, navigated clipper ships, and participated in war. Included in each sketch are controversies in truth and history as well as surveys of lasting contributions by these remarkable women.

My 7-yr.-old daughter started with If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, the most popular one from this series, and now we have all of them. She loves reading them, thinks they're hilarious, I recommend all of these books!
