I have the first edition of Home Enlightenment and just looked the new book over and like changes.
I am a green interior designer and have found Home Enlightenment to be a very useful reference for my work. it covers a wide assortment of topics, but centers on creating a green and toxic-free environment.
I also like how the elements--earth, water, fire and air--are incorporated into daily living.
Bond is tireless in her research for this book and it is jam-packed with information about what products are eco-friendly, how to clean everything and much more.
I also practice Feng Shui, so Home Enlightenment,Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet(for green, Feng Shui and a beautiful home) and Feng Shui Tips for a Better Life are always in easy reach in my office.

Review on the book HOW CHEMICAL BONDS FORM AND CHEMICAL REAC

Review Date: 1999-12-22
Review Date: 1999-12-22
This is an unusual book in many ways. It outlines a new approach to the explanation of the most important chemical phenomena:
chemical bonding and chemical reactions. The commonly accepted theory of matter structure based on the corpuscle-wave dualism
of an electron is well known. The idea was formulated by Louis de Broglie in 1923 and was confirmed by diffraction experiments
which Davisson and Germer carried out in 1927. Since then nobody ever returned to these experiments and all the scientists'
attempts were focused on the search for the approximation method for solving the Schroedinger equation which has no solution
for multi-electronic systems. Besides, the following questions were not considered by the scientists: 1) Why don't all chemical
reactions proceed if they are thermodynamically possible? 2) Why do many chemical reactions proceed at room temperature,
while, in order to break a chemical bond at molecule thermal excitation, we have to heat it up to several thousand degrees?
3) Why is the activation energy in most of the chemical reactions much smaller than the energies of the chemical bonds that
break during the chemical reactions? The search for the answers to these questions has led the authors to the development
of a new theory - The G Theory of Chemical Bonding and Chemical Reactions. The principles of this theory are described in
the book under review. The authors have rejected the corpuscle-wave dualism of the electron on the grounds that the only
experimental proof of the presence of wave properties in electrons is the incorrectly interpreted experiments of Davisson
and Germer. When elucidating the results of their experiments, Davisson and Germer did not consider the influence of the
electromagnetic radiation (which accompanied the electronic stream) on the properties of this stream. The consideration
of this influence on the properties of the electronic stream in the experiments of Davisson and Germer, described in the
book under review, has shown that the electron stream becomes a wave of electrons, and that the length of this electronic
wave is proportional to the value h/mv where h is the Plank constant, m is the mass, and v is the speed. The authors regard
the electron as a common material particle with a mass, a corresponding kinetic energy, and a negative electric charge.
Analyzing the forces acting between the electrons and the nucleus, the authors elaborated a system of simple algebraic equations
which allowed them to realize: 1) the physical nature of chemical bonding, 2) the optimal number of bonding electrons, 3)
the radius of the orbit where the electrons are, 4) the dependence of the bonding energy on the first ionization potentials
(FIP) of the interacting atoms, 5) the length, direction, and polarity of the bonds. The great strength of covalent bonding
is explained in the new theory by the fact that much of the heat energy, given to the molecules in the course of thermal
agitation, is spent irrationally, i.e., goes not to the increase of the vibrational energy of the nuclei, but to the increase
of the energy and entropy of the bonding electrons. The fact that chemical reactions proceed with bond breaking at low temperatures
is explained by the authors on the basis of the experimental results received by a large group of scientists who are well
represented in chemical literature. According to these works, in the course of chemical transformation, strong covalent
bonds can change into weaker donor-acceptor bonds or into very weak Van-der-Waals bonds. Having studied the regularities
of chemical transformations described in literature, the authors have concluded that all the chemical interactions proceed
along an analogous mechanism that includes the stages of association, electronic isomerization, and dissociation. As a rule,
the limiting stage is that of dissociation. The fact that the activation energy is almost by one order of magnitude smaller
than the bonding energy of the interacting atoms - is explained by the electronic isomerization. The exponential dependence
of the reaction rate on the temperature is explained by the formation of chemically active particles (radicals, ions, conences)
in initial substances in the course of any chemical interaction. Thus, the authors have categorically declined the transitional
state theory (activated complex) proving that in reality the chemical reaction proceeds via the formation of an intermediate
compound - associate A... B... C - whose formation is based upon the minimal potential curve, and not via the transitional
state at the top of the energetic barrier. All the theoretical principles are confirmed with experimental data. The main
ideas of the G Theory of Chemical Bonding are based on principles that do not, in any way, contradict modern science. And
a good coincidence of theoretical and experimental data is a good proof of the reality. This book is not a textbook, for
the authors did not mean to produce it as such. Its main object is to get the scientific world acquainted with a new approach
to the study of matter structure, chemical bonding, and chemical interactions. This book can, undoubtedly, serve as a main
source for the construction of new textbooks on chemistry for both high schools and colleges.

"How I Became A Bond Chick," by Laurie de Nuccio. NY, iUniverse, Inc., 2003 - ISBN: 0-595-30098-7, PB, 271 pg. (plus 1 pg.
Ref., Table Contents of 21 Chap. & Acknow.), 9" x 6".
Notwithstanding this book's overtly attractive cover and covertly clever title, it features that profound depth and understanding of those fragility's of the human condition that subtitle such as "Courage, Conviction & Conversations" might gain readership. The writer, using (without biting) a tongue-in-cheek literary style, is able to discuss Life, Love, Family & Survival as it "is" in the real world and not succumb to phantasmagoric pretensions nor fanciful fabrication. The author, de Nuccio, has gifted acumen of contemplating peoples and problems akin to sand & seaweed vis-a-vis tiny tidal surges searching for safe harbour. In so doing, the author's rhetoric rolls off the pages like that of the accomplished stand-up comedian with loud laughter, buffoonery, mirth and a splash of well-timed obscenities to lend it both charm and elegance for baby boomers, beautiful people (jet set), Wasps, wannabes & LOL.
So, what's the book about? It deals with an AOL dating service (yes, that AOL!), Hollywood producers, agents, writers, a very successful Father too rarely home, Breven, Larry, Mario, Peter, Kril, an almost octogenarian Mitchell who's discovered phone sex to proclaim the three functions of orgasm, therapist Annika, a dog Sheila who chews on Silicone BIs and lastly soul mate Gavin.
The author's sprinkling of poetry appends delight, reference to offspring affixes authenticity, description of automotive and plumbing problems adds validity to real people conquering real problems with a deja vu atmosphere referenced by germane adages, proverbs and engaging repartee.
If you just want to laugh, buy the book. If you want to understand yourself better, read the book. But if you are betwixt the Lion and the Tin Man of the Wizard of Oz, read the book twice and regale in its revelations. A bargain and a replacement for your therapist -- we need to hear more from this writer, Laurie de Nuccio.

Simple yet profound, clever, yet touching, this masterful little story is a gem. To a heartbroken young porcupine who doesn't
get a part in the Baby in the Manger play because the other animals taunt that a prickly porcupine is unsuitable for such
an honor, the mother's oft-quoted words, "You are the light of my life!" are consoling. The surprise ending is touching
and beautiful. The story fosters sensitivity, is superbly illustrated and full of laughter and tears, and the mother's words
will become part of your own family life.

I was desparately looking for a book on grieving the loss of a pet when I lost both of my cats to illness. I was prepared
for one loss, but not the other, which took me by surprise. I came across this work by Lagnoni, Butler and Hetts, and found
that it not only helped me see what was going on in my own emotional situation, but it also taught me what I should be looking
for in a veterinary clinic. Working as a volunteer at an animal shelter, I also see the effects of euthanasia on the workers
there, and perhaps this book would be helpful to some in those situations. It is clearly written, stocked with good examples
and true life experiences, and sets up a protocol for vet practices to be better able to deal with their clients, both people
and animals, in life changing situations. It accepts that animals are a large part of many peoples lives, as important as
people. In doing so, the authors recognize that compassion, empathy, and understanding are necessary to help clients cope
with their pet loss, and grief. It also recognizes that staff working in the animal health care field are also in need of
guidance on how to cope with these difficult situations. The book is well organized, and makes a good reference text for specific
situations, as well as provides general overview on how to achieve a compassionate and caring clinic.
