This is an easy to use journal. The cover makes it attractive enough to leave out on the coffee table. Inside pages are divided into seasons and months, with gardening tips, grids to map your gardens, places for pictures and lots of room to write about your garden! I have this book and love it. It is a favorite housewarming gift.

I first read this outstanding book shortly after being admitted to the California State Bar. I was a sole practitioner in Sacramento County for 32 years. In addition I sat as Superior Court Judge Pro Tem for 5 years. I retired as an aerospace rocket engine designer and manager and as Major, U.S.Army. In 2001 I was appointed Presiding Judge of the Bisbee Municipal Court in Arizona and retired in 2002.
As a sole practitioner my view of lawyers is from that perspective. I was never in a law firm although I have been in many high rise palace offices of large firms. It is all facade, the paintings, busts, expensive and exotic plants, expensive wainscoting, oriental carpets, walnut bookcases, leather bound books, beautiful receptionists who probably cannot type/use computer.
All this to dazzle the existing and new client.
The "ethic" of those people is frightening.
In 1969 when I began law practice it was a profession of honor, in many ways like the military.
Increasingly it has become a tribe of liars. Case in point, the O.J.Simpson trial circus. Trials are public, not public spectacles. No trial should ever be on TV!
I have never lied to either the Court or a client. I was never late to Court and NEVER unprepared.
Todays lawyers cannot say that.

Steve Bloom is a master photographer. Not only is he a great craftsman. His way of composure, the deep love and respect for the animals, his sensibility in creating a personal portrait of and often with his subjects are unmatched.
Even in flight the red parrot is with you, the viewer. Then again, the lazy polar bears resting probably are not...
You have whales and dolphins, all kinds of bears, tigers and deer, zebras and elephants and many more from all over the planet. Although there are two or three pictures of animals hunting, most photographs are peaceful, without the prey.
All are perfect for framing and as far as I know there are fine art prints for sale at his website.
This is a terrific collection of many different kinds of animals living their freedom in the wildlife. Most of the portraits are done with natural light, without flash. Lately quite a lot of wildlife photographers have started using artificial light. To my taste not very often with satisfactory results. But then Steve Bloom knows what he is doing. There is just one picture where the flash seems a little unnatural (but that's my taste)
As is written in the amazon description above this is a smaller version of the original HC book. My advise: get the hardcover. But in case you prefer a smaller format this one will most certainly make you happy.

Manuel O'campo, an amazing painter! I liked this book better than the "Heridas de la lengua", even though this is an earlier book. O'campo sums up todays world in his painting,showing apocalypse, world decay and indulgence...oh, and he paints so incredibly good, it is simply a delight to look at. In todays lame world of figurative painting, O'campo shows he has got what most painters don't have...THE GUTS! I highly recommend this book!

Du Bois had many interests and writings from artistic ventures to tackling the political issues of his times: his life was filled with controversy and essays here celebrate his scholarship, examining his influence in the academic world and considering the extent of his social, political and racial insights. Especially recommended for students of DuBois' writings at the advanced high school and college levels.

I have a lot of watercolor flower painting books, but this fills a spot that is different from the rest. The flower paintings and demonstrations are almost surreal in some ways--very vivid colors--also very beautiful and uplifting. There are 15 beautiful and well-written and illustrated demonstrations with step-by-step instructions. The beginning chapters explain a lot about "The Basics" such as tools, composition & design, techniques, color basics. I love the vivid colorfulness of both the flowers and the backgrounds of Mary Backer's flowers. This book is a keeper.
