This book was given to me as a gift and I have read several of the poems. The first thing that caught my attention is how the auhtor has a unique style of writing. It is very accessible and easy to relate too. Several of the poems that she has written for family members are very touching and thought provoking. There is a mix of the secular and religious but it does not allienate either group. There is a poem for just about any situation or occasion. I would recommend this book for those looking for inspiration or fresh approach to writing.

Stability and Change in Human Characteristics

This book...

Examines and interprets a large mass of data from hundreds of longitudinal studies on the shaping of human beings from infancy to adulthood. Cutting across many disciplines, the book relates these research findings to three propositions:

1) The relation between parallel measurements over time is a function of the levels of development represented at different times.

2) Change measurements are unrelated to initial measurements but they are highly related to the revelant enviromental conditions in which individuals have lived during the change period.

3) Variations in the enviroment have greatest quantitative effect on a characteristic at its most rapid period of change and least rapid period of change.

Stability and Change in Human Characteristics applies these propositions to many different characteristics and considers their theoretical as well as their practical consequences for child rearing, education, and other fields.

It traces the course of development of a large number of human characteristics and considers the implications of these results for prediction, behavioral sciences research, and the problems of measurements.

In general, the findings reveal the tremendous importance of the first few years of life for all that follows. Change in many characteristics becomes more and more difficult with increasing age and only the most powerful enviromental conditions are likely to produce significant changes at the later stages of life.

This artistic team of Bloom/Hill were my professors while I attended the University of Houston pursuing my degree in fine arts photography. I know the area very well that was documented in this book and this book was a forerunner to the path that other artists have taken since it's publication in the field of ecology art.

A thorough resource for teaching emotional intelligence

Here is a thoughtful, concise, direct approach to teaching emotional intelligence. Ms. Lewkowicz walks the reader through teaching life skills to youth that goes far beyond proficiency testing! Through the use of skill development and drama, Ms. Lewkowicz provides a blueprint for sharing life enhancing skills with our children. The book is broken down into three parts: Choosing to Feel Positive, Choosing to Think Wisely, and Choosing to Act Sensibly. The book is straight forward and is filled with an abundance of activities and opportunities for young people to practice and learn how to make wise choices. Each section has applications and modifications for elementary, middle school, and high school students.

Key components covered include: self awareness, managing emotions, empathy, relationships and self control. This book is not a textbook, nor a dissertion, but a straight forward, practical common sense approach. It could positively impact children's quality of life from early on (and all those that encounter them on a daily basis).

Hopefully, this book will make it into the hands of school administrators and those of others who work with young people. These life skills could curtail some of the many negative behaviors we all have seen throughout our society. Youth need to be provided with these tools that Ms. Lewkowicz has laid out so that they can be more accepting of themselves and of others.

I highly recommend this book for any parent, educator, caregiver, or legislator to see the legacy that we can share with our children.

This is one of the most informative books I've ever read. Harold Bloom takes you through, close to every piece of literature ever written by Williams, and tears it apart piece by piece, allowing the reader to get to the essence of the writing, and also get some insight from another person. I think it to be very refreshing to find such a tacctful book on literary criticism. It's a fabulous book that I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat!

A Streetcar Named Desire, by Tennessee Williams is one of the best plays that I have read in years. First adapted to film in 1951, by Oscar Saul. I must recommend this play to all theatre directors out there and say that this would be a very large hit.

Once again, I say that A Streetcar named desire is one of the best plays I have read.

The true story of churchman, spiritual writer, and leader of the Russian Orthodox Church in Britain, Metropolitan Anthony

'This Holy Man': Impressions Of Metropolitan Anthony by Gillian Crow (an Orthodox writer and the Diocesan Secretary the Russian Patriarchal Diocese of Sourozh, Great Britain) is the true story of churchman, spiritual writer, and leader of the Russian Orthodox Church in Britain, Metropolitan Anthony (1916-2003). From his early childhood, to conversion, to his life's work and dedication in spreading his religious message, This Holy Man follows Anthony's experience through war, reconstruction, and dramatically changing times. This Holy Man balances its portrayal of Anthony's charisma, faith, and kindness with a sober look at his own personal demons of shyness, insecurity, and depression. A handful of inset black-and-white photographs illustrate this respectful biography of a true believer.
