John Keats (5934-0, $19.95) adds to the research guides in the 'Major Poets' series, blending a biography with extracts of
major critical essays examining the poet's works. New to the Major Short Story Writers series ($19.95 each) is D. H. Lawrence

The great artists of the world commonly go unnoticed during their lifetimes. "Herman Melville" looks at the work of the great
author, much ignored during his time. Moby Dick being one of the great American novels was not a best seller when it was first
available, despite its place in modern school curriculums. With a wide examination of all of his work the Bloom Modern Critical
Views book on "Herman Melville" is highly recommended reading for students of literary history.

The McFie family were active in the history of Mesilla Valley, New Mexico. In 1903, Maude Elizabeth McFie (Bloom) as a senior

Ana Bend Colony Grant (and the other grants in the Valley), members of the Missouri Volunteers who marched south through the
Valley to El Paso in order to participate in the Battle of Brazito, the California Column which arrived in the Mesilla Valley
during the Civil War and remained to settle. Edited by Lansing B. Bloom with annotations by Jo Tice bloom, A History Of The
Mesilla Valley, 1903 is a small gem of regional history made available for a new generations of readers. It is as engaging
as it is informative, and would aptly serve as a model for similar histories for other parts of the American southwest.

this was a great book for anyone who wants to understand the really complex ring structure of the odyssey. I used it to write
an awesome report and I found it to be very helpful. a person can follow this book rather easily and it proved to be a lot
more entertaining than I first thought
The book begins with an overview and then is broken down into specific chapters that cover independant things involving the odyssey and so you only have to read the chapter about your specific topic.
i recommend it to anyone who has recently finished the odyssey and they would like to find out more about this timeless classic.

With these words, Henry Thoreau ended his world-famous masterpiece, "Walden", neatly summarizing the essence of both his book and his life: that we are all on a journey of awakening to the divine fullness of Life. Like the writings of great saints and mystics through time, "Walden" is less one man's philosophical musings than it is the ecstatic outpouring of a soul that has "dipped into the well of eternal Truths" and held up the dipper for the rest of us to drink from.
But the real wonder of "Walden" is that it speaks even more to the problems of our nation today than it did 150 years ago -- that we are living "lives of quiet desperation", our souls drowning in a sea of materialism and media messages, our natural environment poisoned and obliterated before our slightly-open eyes. We are out of touch with the rhythms of nature and with our own beingness.
Yet Thoreau does not merely describe the problems of our time, he gives specific solutions -- solutions that are increasingly respoken if not practiced: Follow a different drummer. Follow not your neighbor nor your parents nor anyone else, but follow the genius within yourself. Sit still and listen to the divine music within. Simplify.
There's a reason Thoreau's "Walden" has never been out of print since the 1860's, and possibly never will: it's a message we need to hear, more than ever.
