A unique treatment of the Bach Flower system
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.

Review Date: 2006-03-17
Stefan Ball, of the Dr. Edward Bach Centre and Bach Foundation has come up with a unique approach to understanding and using
the Bach Flower Remedies with this book, one that looks beyond the descriptions of what the individual flowers do and how
to choose and use them (scores of books are available that do this already, some with him as author, no less). The focus here,
as one can gather from the subtitle, is on personal and spiritual development and growth. I am not usually one who even considers
reading so-called "self-help" books, but since I am heavily involved with the Bach system, including training to become a
practitioner, I already had an interest in that part of the subject. This book does cover in detail, in chapters alternating
with more philosophical ones, what each of the 38 Bach Flower Remedies do, but even here, there are more in-depth descriptions
and different ways of looking at the Remedies, using many thoughtful examples (some from the author's own life experiences),
than usually appear in these books. Every other chapter covers topics such as intuition, peak experiences, simplicity and
finding one's life purpose not only as they relate to using the Bach system, but also how they have been discussed throughout
history by philosphers, authors and scientists. This sounds like it could get rather heavy pretty quickly, but Ball keeps
the tone light and the style of writing almost conversational so that the book is very easy and quick to read while conveying
a wealth of useful information that makes you think about your own life. For someone already using the Bach Flowers, Bloom
offers fascinating, fresh insight into using them for a deeper purpose, beyond, say, "merely" taking them for relieving depression.
For someone new to Bach Flowers, it provides a wonderful starting point, complete with all the basic information as well as
an underlying theme that can be tapped into when the time is right. Seventy years on, Bach Flowers continue to help people
change their own lives. Bloom brings forward this message in a comfortable, inspiring fashion which is destined to make it
a classic.

As I read through this young people's book, I was surprised by the quality of the story. I thought that the story would limit
itself to bobcats frolicking about and being inquisitive within their environment. Instead, what the author presented was
a deeper story of reality. The bobcats are taught by their mother to kill prey for their food. There are struggles that
the bobcats face which show death as a natural part of life's order. The story is illuminated by gorgeous drawn illustrations.
This book is an excellent story about real life.

Harold Bloom is arguably the greatest reader of literature literary criticism has known in the present generation. In this
work he asserts ' reading' to be a life- action, an agon a process by which we assert our power.
"Bloom's first chapter on critical and poetic language sums up his systematic procedures and attacks both traditionalist 'humanistic' criticism and recent Continental modes, including Deconstruction. His second chapter centers on the Book of Genesis and on Freud's theory of the origins of sexuality in order to establish three models for poetic originality. The third chapter, commenting on a range of poets from Milton through Stevens, gives a definitive account of the poetric process Bloom has called ' transumption' a technique by which poets come to terms with their forerunners." (From the back cover)
This work precedes Bloom's blockbuster works on ' The Western Canon' and 'Genius' and seems more academically jargoned. Apparently the ' strong poet Bloom ' read this work contended with it and overcame it wish his richer and more poetically flowing later masterworks.

A valuable addition to any primary care physician's library

Very nicely written and organized book that accomplishes it's editorial goal...that is to encapsulate brief interventional
therapy and integrate it into the delivery of every-day primary care. From traditional affective disorders such as depression
and anxiety, to end of life issues and nursing home care, this book addresses the mental health issues that are interwoven
into the majority of patient interactions. The authors make a compelling case that the family physician, or any primary care
provider, is uniquely positioned to intervene early in the course of adjustment disorders, and that many mental health disorders
are much easier to treat when addressed in the acute phase. Written in clear, concise style, each chapters can be reviewed
in 10 minutes or less, and outlines are provided at the beginning of each chapter so that the clinician can reference them
on the fly. Highly recommended.

I thought that Bloom's The Brontes was a great book to use when researching the Brontes, especially Charlotte. For my AP
English class I had to find critisms on Jane Eyre and background information on Charlotte Bronte. This book provided me with
the materials to produce three pages of research on Charlotte Bronte.

If you like applique, you will like this book. The applique projects are complemented by Ms Armstrong's orginal hand quilting
patterns; the quilting seems to continue the pictures painted by the qpplique. In addition to "blooms and butterflies", there
are also frogs, turtles, moths of many kinds, bees, ect. This is not a beginner's book. Some needle turn experience will
be helpful. Detail work is completed with simple embroidry stiches. All the projects are small, meant for wall hanging. A
lovely book that will inspire.

Berger's compelling examination of the "commonplace" in our culture exposes core American behaviors of consumerism and denial in an entertaining, insightful manner, in tandem with wry and whimsical humor.
Illustrating the book's 36 essays are Berger's own delightful drawings which are reminiscent of Thurber's in their simplicity of gesture.
His concise introduction and conclusion offers the reader background information on semiotics and postmodernist philosophy.
In Bloom's Morning, Berger peels back layer after layer of the "trivial" to reveal the myths of our psyches shrouded in the mundane, opening our minds to the mysteries of our lives.
