Blanc Books

One of my favorite books is a collection of quotes by Mark Twain, so I love quotations. Upon opening "Today..." I found a solid, straightforward philosophy woven like a thread through the entire book. Live today. Be Alive. Enjoy life. Now, I keep it within reach like a mental box of treats. A fine book and I recommend it highly.

I recently received this adorable book as a gift. Once I began to read it, I realized that there is much more to it than I thought!
Each page contains a simple yet profound statement with very colorful illustrations which reinforce the messages. The book is also wonderful to hold in the hand because of its soft, padded cover and smaller size.
Each morning, I open the book to a random page, and it always has something useful and encouraging to say.

What a treat!

This book is invaluable for anyone considering walking the TMB.

Kev Reynolds approach makes this an easy and entertaining read. Importantly, it holds your hand through the complete walk whether taken clockwise or the more traditional anti-clockwise. As a newbie to long distance walking it was my faithful friend for every one of the 11 days.

My only suggestion is that while the 1:50,000 scale TMB map suggested will get you through, there are some tricky bits, especially for the novice walker that would be a lot easier with a 1:25,000 scale map. They are available as part of the IGN series with the title Saint Gervais les Bains.

Although you can comfortably carry this book in a larger pocket, it contains almost every information you need while doing the Tour de Mont Blanc. This comprehensive guidebook describes the tour in the both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. The suggested itineraries would suit most hikers. Since the book focuses on the Tour of Mont Blanc itself, it includes only few side trips. If you have time for more side trips, you should complement this book with either a local guidebook in French or a good topographic map.

Maps in the book are simple, but useful. I have found them sufficient for most parts of the tour, but they did not help much in few rather confusing places. That is why I sometimes used a real topographic map along with the ones included in the guidebook. Description of trails could be more detailed, but there is an obvious trade-off between the amount of information and the weight of a book. I think the author chose the most practical solution of this trade-off.

The book also offers useful information on accommodation. Both brief descriptions of the "refuges" and the phone numbers (or e-mail addresses whenever available) are up to date. Prices are missing, but you will need to call those places in advance anyway because booking is strongly advised on this popular trek.

Finally, the book also covers various interesting topics, from weather to ATMs. My only criticism here is that the author had mostly the British readers in mind while writing about flights and health insurance. Since the book has become the most popular guidebook among the English-speaking hikers, I hope the next edition will be slightly more international.

I gave this book five stars because it is the most helpful and comprehensive guidebook about the Tour of Mont Blanc I have ever seen. If you try this trek for the first time, "The Tour of Mont Blanc (Mountain Walking)" will make it much easier and more enjoyable. Given that, the price is ridiculously small.

St. John Vianney worked hard to get as many people as he could to turn to Jesus and away from the traps of the world. Pierre Blanc has kept St. John Vianney's work alive through this 15 day journey. A must read.

The manson family story told in simple,easy to read style,though of course its not as in depth as''THE FAMILY'' BY ED SANDERS OR ''HELTER-SKELTER '' BY BUGLIOSI& GENTRY...........I've known copies of this to sell for quite a bit of change........but,true Manson buffs will love this because of its truly obscure photos[which ive never seen anywhere else]..........all in all, a refreshing change from the other books out on this subject,with a ''just the facts'' style that has been difficult to find since 1970 in probably the most bizarre and controversial murders ever commited.

One of the best, most practical books on customer service I've ever read. A "must-read" for all managers and owners who want to excel in a competitive market.

This book is charming. Though 30 years old, it is still as much fun to look through as when I first bought it. It is all photos, virtually no words; photos of, well, Afghan trucks, which are highly decorated. The trucks are spangled, tasseled, and bejeweled like the camels who preceded them. Every available surface is painted, like in little panels like mughal scenes. After the newspaper photos of what has transpired in Afghanistan in the last 30 years, this book is an antidote and a window into an Afghani sensibility and enjoyment of life that is otherwise unavailable to the West.

My 4 year old daughter loves this story. I have to read it to her on a monthly basis. The other stories by Nick (Percy the Park Keeper Series) is as great. I plan to get the entire series (once I can afford it).

I just purchased this book from a Detroit Dinner Riverboat Cruise sponsored by "Friends of the Detroit River". Bob-Lo revisted is really an intimate pictorial of yesterday's Bob-Lo Island. Amusement rides, concessions and the beauty of such an important part of Detroit History is presented and captured in this book. Highly recommend for a trip down this fantastic memory lane (or river).

An interesting book which tells not only the story of a Michigan landmark, but also what can happen when an unscrupulous real estate investor tries to trample on a homeowner.
