I'm kind of surprised to find a fan of Lupin. I have seen many Holmes manias but I was the only one who had any interest at the wonderful frenchman in my district. It's a sad thing that many people didn't had the chance to taste the sweetness of Maurice's stories. well, who ever you are, read some and you'll need some.

Besides this book I have also read :"IN PURSUIT OF ARSENE LUPIN" ,"ARSENE LUPIN vs HERLOCK SHOLMES","EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES OF ARSENE LUPIN" in the early '90's translated into greek. I was totally taken by the portrail of the character and by how well-written the book was!!! I've managed to convince my husband to read :"The Extraordinary Adventures... " (the only title we could get from the library) and he absolutely loved it!We have decided to buy all the titles we could find because they are worth having. All lovers of SHERLOCK HOLMES should give Arsene Lupin a try!

Read Lupin's awesome adventures!!

It's really a pity (almost a shame) that Amazon.com doesen't have a complete list of Leblanc's work. Anyway, if you're intersted, in Brazil contact Editora Nova Fronteira. I really don't know if they are still publishing the books, but you should try. Leblanc's hero and at the same time, villain, is Arsène Lupin, a frenchman talented for arts, literature, wining young ladies' hearts, and, oddly, robbery. He is the portrait of the frenchman, hilarious, independent, clever, and human. Leblanc hit the bull's eye creating this kind of character to go against the other mistery characters of his time, like Agatha Christie's Poirot, or Father Brown, or Inspetor Maigret and, most of all, the All-Time Brittanic Sherlock Holmes. As a matter of fact, there is a book called "Arsène Lupin meets Herlock Sholmes", figure out why! "Crystal Stopper" is one of the three Leblanc's books one must read, it's the first one. The other two are called "The hollow Needle" and "813". In these books, Lupin is involved with treasures, has to decipher complicated plots, has to save his life and lives of people he cares about. The most funny chapters are the ones he has to deal with the french police force. He even disguises himself as a well-known and respected inspector for years, and no one is able to discover him. If you're sick and tired of Miss Jane Marple and such characters, take your time and find Leblanc's books. Another good guess is "The teeth of the tiger", showing an older and tired, yet very alive, Arsène Lupin. Follow him and discover his secrets, his passions, and his treasures.

Fantastic Way to Learn Office 95 Applications

This book is very very well done. I learned Access in several days with easy to follow examples. Admittedly, I was a little nervous about taking on Access, but this book made me feel at ease and now I consider myself very proficient with databases. Each MS program has its own section which is further broken down into lessons, each of which has exercises, so its a very organized approach.

Now the bad news: I lost my copy after my last move and now am going to get another.

BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU'RE USING OFFICE 95!

This is the greatest step by step book (for everyone)

This is one of the best books on the subject of Microsoft Office. I have read numerous books on the subject and I would say this one stands out. Other books on the subject are ususally 90% reading and 10% doing. Some even come with diskettes with lessons. But I feel that you learn how to do a program through using it - not reading about it. With Learning Microsoft Office for Windows 95 it is a step by step process to ensure that by the time you finish a particular subject, i.e. Powerpoint you become (in my opinion) an expert in Powerpoint. It is written in easy and concise language that lets the user begin learning on the first day. This book is probably outdated, but I would recommend it even if your software is updated.

Our favorite children's Bible

My oldest is 3 and we went to Barnes and Noble and bought every children's Bible they had. From funny cartoon Bibles to more serious, we've read them all and this, BY FAR, is our favorite. It pretty well stays right on the scripture, word for word, and the illustrations are fabulous! They just say a whole lot with their simplicity and beauty of color and the scriptures chosen for this Bible have a lot of meaning. It's not so much a "Bible story book" as it is a "get to know Jesus, Bible". LOVE IT!

My Favorite Children's Bible

Every night since my six year old was a toddler we have read a little bit of a children's Bible before bed. Ella Lindvall's wonderful Read Aloud Bible Stories have been staples particularly during the preschool years. The Beginner's Bible by Deanna Davis helped at the next stage and provided a nice sweep of the whole Bible in brightly colored several page stories. We graduated to a chapter book and began to read The Children's Story Bible by Catherine Vos for a while but the sparseness of illustrations began to wear on my (then) five year old. We have since moved to the Golden Children's Bible that reads at the same level as Vos but features lush colored illustrations on every page. All that is to say I have spent a lot of time look at and reading kid's Bibles. This book is a true gem among the whole field. The book focuses entirely on Jesus but, includes some elements of the Old Testament to provide a frame for understanding salvation history. Each glossy page of this manageable (8x8) book features a short paragraph directly from scripture and a lovely and elegant full color cartoon illustration that occupies the top two thirds of the page.
This is a perfect book for those "in between" stages - colorful enough to be a delight to older preschoolers, but substantive enough to hold a school age child's attention. A fantastic book.

This is one of the best gifts for dog lovers that I've found in a long time. It's actually written (tongue-in-cheek) for dogs, with truly funny examples of how to be "bad" while remaining cute and lovable. I love the illustrations -- I laugh every time I pick up the book!

Comic book gangsters? Maybe, but they are presented in an interesting way. Back in the day it is said that many folks involved in organized crime thought of themselves as larger than life so it is appropriate that the author presents them accordingly. This is a world inhabited by testosterone driven men. The phallic symbol on the cover paired with the name `The Contractor' is worth the price of the book alone. A great late modern gangster tale. I can't wait for the sequel.

Mr. Le Blanc's book is a riveting story about a contracted killer in Boston. The story follows Sonny O'Brien as he does what he does best. If you like books by writers such as Lawrence Block, Mario Puzo, or movies like the Departed, you'll find this to be a spanking good read!

I liked this book very much. The book is a review of "Bleu". It reviews everything that one has learned from "Bleu" and goes on to teach, one, more French. My vocabulary has increased as well as my passion to learn more. I must say though, that if you are just looking to pass a class or something, then I wouldn't bother. French is a somewhat difficult language. If you are serious in learing french, this book along with "Bleu" and "Rouge" are excellent begining books. "Blanc" allows you to see what life is like in France, in their "Note de culturelle" The only semi-difficult thing is, that the excercises descriptions are written in french, so unless you know a little french, you will have a hard time completing the excercises. But other than that, it's really a great book.

In Search of Peace

Review Date: 2007-09-13
AT THE AGE of six, Yousef Khanfar had yet to speak his first word. His concerned father, Deeb, a Palestinian refugee living in Kuwait, took Yousef to the doctor--who, ruling out physiological causes, prescribed art. Yousef's father dutifully took him out to the desert and taught his son how to use an old Nikon camera. Excited by the magic which occurred in the darkroom and echoing his father's praise of his early photographs, Yousef soon uttered his first word: "beautiful."

Today, Yousef Khanfar is one of the world's greatest landscape photographers. He has been honored by such publications as Oprah, International Photo Art, Amateur Photographer, Persimmon Hill, Photo Life, Outdoor Photographer and Nature's Best. Listed by Rotovision in 2003 as one of the best 38 photographers in the world, his work is included in the permanent collection of the International Photography Hall of Fame. Khanfar's first solo publication, Voices Of Light, was published in 2000.

His latest project, In Search of Peace, is arranged as a symphony in three movements ("Sublime," "Freedom" and "Divine"), with photographs forming the musical staff. The "symphony" is accompanied by original poetry in a prophetic and transcendent form that invokes fellow Levantine Kahlil Gibran. Khanfar's composition, use of light and angle, and brilliant eye create a masterful collection that demonstrates his world-class talent.

Talent alone, however, cannot account for the brilliance of his work. The collection of photographs also demonstrate the qualities that make Khanfar a truly great landscape photographer. His discipline, determination, patience and strong understanding of the natural world add a Zen-like quality to his images that embodies his strong sense of internal peace and intimately imparts some of this peace upon the viewer.

The title of his first photographic movement, "Sublime," describes not only the awe-inspiring scenes he has captured, but the photographer's symbolic interplay between natural elements. Khanfar frames the fleeting motion of liquids and the eternal stoicism of solids with the supernatural qualities of gas and light to explore conflict. Masterful images, through scenes that depict the fragility of relationships between elements, convey ferocious inertia. "This universe is transient, and our lives are brief," Khanfar writes. "Our souls are infinite, our breaths are numbered, our moments are borrowed, yet our conflict and madness immense."

The second movement, "Freedom," departs dramatically from the harsh reality of the previous one, with abstract, surreal and impressionistic images that introduce new ways of looking at similar subjects. With increased attention to plant life and the use of varying degrees of focus, the stark contrast between elements in "Sublime" melts into internal dialogue within subjects and less distinguishable delineation between elements. The abrupt change of style between the two movements laments the vast distance between what is and what could be. Images like "Plate 28: Free Minds" and "Plate 43: Velvet," where subjects are simultaneously in and out of focus, explore relationships between color and line, dream and reality--inviting the viewer to imagine that another world is possible.

While the third movement, "Divine," returns to the realism of "Sublime," it represents an alternate reality. Whereas "Sublime" depicts a natural state of conflict, and "Freedom" imagines alternatives, "Divine" depicts a natural state of peace where elements effortlessly and harmoniously move in and out of each other. "The symphony of peace," Khanfar writes, "is the whisper between the soul of the earth and the heart of heaven."

As one of six million voiceless Palestinians living in exile, Khanfar has developed a powerful and unique voice of his own that has reached the heights of his profession. In a world where Palestinians are more frequently the subjects of photography, Khanfar's images provide an unfiltered, intimate and human vision for a more peaceful world. His photographs--devotions to the places he travels--are a worthy love song for the homeland and the peace to which he will one day return.

A unique compendium of images and a highly recommended addition

A compendium of museum-quality photography, Palestinian photographer and writer Yousef Khanfar's "In Search Of Peace" features a poetically articulate, emotionally passionate, and philosophically inspiring essay on the need for a universal healing for humanity's ills. The photographic images are organized into principle segments devoted images of awe-inspiring power and conflict inherent in natural phenomena and which reflect on the harshness of human conflict; impressionist images conveying human aspirations for freedom of expression, religion, speech, truth, peace, and love; and images that reflect peace, tranquility, and properties of the spirit that can establish a paradise of peace for the whole of the human race. "In Search Of Peace" is a unique compendium of images and a highly recommended addition to personal, academic, and community library Photography collection.

This is a great cookbook, nearly perfect. The recipes are great--very generous of Raymond Blanc to provide many of his best. The instructions are the best ever written for the home chef, from those who are new to cooking to those who are old hands. Tricks and hints are myriad. Menu suggestions and wine pairings are described. A truly wonderful cookbook, not merely a celebrity chef book.
