Something my wife gets asked on a daily basis!

Blake Bell had a great idea, how the partner of a well-known artist is affected by their work and how they put up with it! Behind every great artist...well Blake set out to explore the old quote and find out the truth of it. To that end he interviewed Will and Ann Eisner, Craig P Russell, Joe Kubert, Dick Ayers (he even gets drawn into Dick's autobiography), Stan Lee and many MANY more. Bell is able to get fun, insightful stories and answers out of the artists and their partners, and illuminates a side of comics that is rarely seen.

Interesting Read

This book has been called the funniest and best Royalty book ever written. I cannot say that I agree with that synopsis, but it is an interesting read, nonetheless. I have read most every book written on Diana and the royal family of England. I have read other books that were much funnier and that had more of an "I can't put it down" element, but I do have a great deal of admiration for Arthur Edwards and his position of respected photographer of England's royalty. He offers a unique perspective on the private lives of Diana and Fergie, and many details I had not read before. But it took me quite a long time to get through this book - my way of telling whether a book is absolutely fabulous or not - and obviously much of its content is now sadly outdated. If you are a die-hard royal fan, however, I'd still recommend it.

A good sailing introduction with great photography
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-12
I bought this book after I had been sailing for a while and is about the 5th or 6th "how to" sailing book I purchased. I bought it mainly as a "coffee table" book because it is easy to read and understand and has great photography of sailboats and sailing scenes.

It is however a good introduction to sailboats and the sailing experience. Chapter one is titled "Sailing for Everyone" and Peter Blake does and excellent job of making this book an "Introduction to Sailing" for everyone.

The book discusses wind and sail power issues, how to select the right boat, buying secondhand, building yourself, and various boat types from cruisers to racing boats. He even discusses sailboat racing and tactics.

This is not an "in depth" technical book or reference on all types of sailing and sailboats, but it does a good job of providing an introduction and gives you a lot of great photos to look at and use to get oriented to sailing and sailboats. Well worth the price.

Great insight into Deans movie career
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1998-01-22
This is an outstanding book for both avid James Dean fans as well as classic movie buffs. It gives a lot of insight into this enigmatic man who has continued to inspire people and influence movie making, even long after his death. My only disapointment was the fact that the book only shows his three "big" movies; East of Eden, Giant and Rebel Without a Cause. It would have been nice if the authors had included some of his television work and the other movies where he didn't have a lead role. Nonetheless, the book is well worth the price and I highly recommend it.

Fine review of Jevons

Review Date: 2008-11-03
The Jevons Paradox is one of the most important yet least understood aspects of the energy sector. Efficiency doesn't necessarily result in decreased consumption. Rather, it usually means greater consumption. John Polimeni and his fellow authors do a great job of explaining why Jevons was right.

Oxford secrets

Review Date: 2008-05-18
Private Investigator Sam Falconer grew up in Oxford, living with her mother and step father in one of the colleges where he was a Don. She is asked to guard a collection of weird museum pieces, including a number of shrunken heads, by doing night duty as a guard at a small museum of exotic and erotic artifacts. Very soon after she takes up her duties, two murders take place and she is left in charge of an extremely feisty chihuahua, by a large man who keeps disappearing, just when she desperately needs some answers from him. Sam has a troubled, psychologically involved background and the strange and dangerous events of the present, threaten to tip her over the edge. It's a good, fast and exciting read which lovers of modern day thrillers will really enjoy.

A cute little book

Our family loved reading the Flat Stanley series by Jeff Brown. Because of that we ordered this book. It was about the same family. We didn't enjoy this book near as much as the Flat Stanley books. This one was maybe an earlier book in the group and was not near as cute or fast moving. If you have read all of the other Jeff Brown books then you might consider buying this one. Otherwise, there are other better written books by Jeff Brown worth reading.

A good landscape book for beginners
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-05
This is a nice step by step for beginning landscape painters. There are ten step by step demonstrations, each with multiple color images. All are fairly simple, with the one shown on the cover being the most complex, and each discusses colors used. There are also three pages (4 color images each) illustrating tree, sky and land, and water color for differing outdoor conditions.

Demonstrations are 1) Deciduous Trees 2) Evergreens 3) Meadow 4) Hills 5) Mountains 6) Clouds 7) Sunset 8) Stream 9) Snow and Ice 10) Pond

This book has been re-printed in a revised and edited version by Dover - Oil Landscapes Step by Step by Wendon Blake. The revised version, available new from Amazon, does not have the demonstrations of Hills, Stream, or Snow and Ice
