it changed my life.Review Date: 2005-09-19
My life had never been the same.
Today I am a 24 years old and a Master of Divinity student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. As I am sitting in front of my computer weeping for all the hardships I have been through in my life, the prayer that I made 11 years ago came to me. I opened that 11 years old book and read that chapter again. I realized that my life has indeed been in His hands over all these years and through all the hardships.
In all, God is transforming me into a humble servant for Him, and in this difficult sanctifying process I am learning obedience and trusting in Him alone. This journey all started that night...reading this book.

I knew Lyn Blake when...Review Date: 2005-04-13
Fortune gave me a break and I was seated across from Lyn Blake. She fired questions at me about international distribution (which I was in charge of), replenishment rates, supply, freight, imprints, Win 95 concurrent launch strategies while everyone else was quietly sipping their soups, hoping I'd be in the gunsights long enough to let them slip away.
But I wasn't giving her up as I had never had the opportunity to have such an intelligent conversation with a person as smart and talented as Lyn. The real talent can ask you the pertinent questions that really make a difference to the business and get the answers in less than 10 minutes (she was eating at the same time)
She had just taken over an imprint and presented the first business plan at a sales conference. When asked how the previous captain of the brand had failed to bring it up to par, she answered "weakness" and there it was on the floor in front of every executive in the room - the whole hard truth. At that point, I had undying respect for Lyn Blake.
I'm sure she knew it, but she was known as "Ball Buster Blake" and Lyn TNP (Take no prisoners). She could never suffer fools, which was an effective strategy as they ran away from her. She took "The Replenishment Road Show" to Europe and my British friends came out of the training looking like they'd been on a ride to the moon in a sports car
She has a big heart. Flowers and a thankyou note were not uncommon. McKenzies first baby pictures had the pride of place on her desk. In her first year or so McKenzie had a big deal about wanting ice cream - and actually got the goods. I said "Lyn, I'd have given anything to see you get out-negotiated by a 2 year old over ice cream".
I find it impossible to believe you've retired from publishing, but good for you, you made one helluva good stamp on the industry and helped make Amazon an ass kicker.
With Great Respect

Well worth the read!Review Date: 2005-03-08
Was I up to the challenge? I'm glad I kept reading since I experienced a straight-ahead-brook-no-fools plot laced with humor, energy, and passion for the business. I certainly learned a lot and hope there's more to come from this author.
Lyn, I hope at some point we'll see you back in the book industry. You'll be missed.
The last 5 years...Review Date: 2005-03-08
As time went on, Lyn took over, This proved to be the best thing that could have ever happened for the company, the employees and our vendors. At one point or another we've all felt the wrath of Lyn (for some of us it started with the "Friday meetings" for CA). Looking back on it now, we all must smile and admit that as painful as it may have been at the time, she has made all of us better at whatever it is we do.
As I've gotten to know Lyn, I've realized how unique she is. While she will bust your balls in a meeting if you don't have your sh*t together, she also cares about her team personally and professionally and will drop by just to see how things are going or if you're having a bad day, she'll ask what's wrong. While many people have only seen the hard outer shell, you must admit that she is always fair and for those of us that have cracked that outer shell, we are very lucky.
Lyn, thanks for everything over the past few years and while you will be missed here, your family will be lucky to have you around (Baird just better make sure he starts hitting his forecast).
Simply the best...better than all the restReview Date: 2005-03-10
Let me echo what someone said earlier - you CAN have a perfectly organized desk, CAN hold meetings that get things done in an hour or less, and CAN also balance work and family. Lyn proved it every day. I feel, frankly, honored to have ever worked with her or even to have made her acquaintance. My Amazon experience, thanks primarily to Lyn Blake, continues to be the highlight of my life. And if she ever wants to publish a memoir, I will happily contract it. This woman is the real deal - and if she also happens to be beautiful, is that such a bad thing?

Warm And Sensual....Erotica!Review Date: 2008-11-05
A knock-your-socks-off, sexy, hot romance, with spell-binding adventure and suspense! (I won't reiterate the plot, since it's already been well explained) It was so easy to fall in love with such a warmly romantic couple. The banter was amusing and entertaining, the suspense intense at times. Erotica as it was meant to be - plot and all!

Seeing Brock again stirs long-buried feelings inside Kat that endanger her emotional well-being, her future with her intended husband, and all of the plans she has made for her life. But she can't ignore her feelings for Brock for long, especially when the goons chasing him threaten both of their lives, forcing them into close proximity as the sexy FBI agent pulls out all the stops to protect her.
The more I read of author Toni Blake's work, the higher the regard I have for her talent. Swept Away is the fourth story I have read by her, and proves to this reviewer the consistent high quality in Blake's work.
From page one, Blake creates empathy for the characters she pens, engendering a feeling within the reader that they are a part of the story, instead of being on the outside looking in. You don't read a story by this writer as much as you feel it. In my opinion, that is the mark of a truly great author.
Kat and Brock are a fantastic romantic duet! Each of them brings to the story a considerable amount of trepidation regarding love - especially with each other. Kat is frightened to give her heart to anyone again after the way Brock rejected her when she was just 17 years old, and Brock is convinced that love and commitment can never be in the cards for a man with his dangerous lifestyle. Watching the fireworks commence as these characters fight what is oh so obviously a losing battle is riveting!
In the end, Blake once again delivers a beautiful HEA (happy ever after). While happy endings are the stuff fairy tales are made of, this author ensures that her couple has a realistic happy ending, working out both their individual issues and their issues together before finally culminating in a very satisfying finish. I highly recommend Swept Away!

Spicy romantic adventureReview Date: 2007-08-16
Blake sure knows how to write passion. She smartly makes readers wait and let's the tension build up between the characters, and then it's one sizzling and fun ride to the end. Realistic dialogue, plenty of action and thrills, great chemistry, and flawless writing make this a first rate romantic adventure on the spicier side.

SAYONARA......IT'S BEEN FUN!Review Date: 2007-11-22
Yes, it's that large. I was hoping to make a large home library some day. Books have been my life: Even though I write mostly about Asian films. And I was glad that VHS films came into vogue, as they afforded me the opportunity to begin amassing a large collection of Japanese films which I have a soft heart for. That got real big too! Anyway, back to the question as to what to write for my last review? Well, I just happened to stumble across this book last night, one of many. There is a poem by the gifted and enigmatic poet, engraver and painter William Blake. I do recommend the book by the way. Events in my life have gone in a very negative way, therefore, I have decided to impart a poem as my last review. Hope you like it. It's one I have remembered from my childhood. There are too many great things to write about, and I figured this would not be a bad goodbye. It is William Blake's "THE TYGER"
THE TIGER
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?
What the hammer? What the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

A terrific read - one for the keeper shelf Review Date: 2007-05-28
Jake is a bartender at Chez Sophia's. Once a cop, he's turned his back on his previous life following a tragedy. He recognizes that Stephanie isn't a high-priced escort. He doesn't want to get involved - with her or with anyone - but he's drawn to her and finds himself helping her.
In Your Wildest Dreams is a wonderful read. A terrific romance with a dash of mystery. Yes, it sizzles with hot love scenes, but it's more than just that. You actually care about the characters. Stephanie is strong yet vulnerable. And Jake. Sigh. I just loved reading about him, yet ached for his heartbreak. Together they're one couple you can see being together.
This was my first book by Toni Blake but definitely not my last. Though I borrowed this book from the library, I'm off to buy it so that I can read it again and again.
Just one side note, for those reading this book today, note that it was published just before Hurricane Katrina, so there are many mentions of areas in New Orleans that were sadly ruined.
One hot read!!!Review Date: 2005-12-20
Jake Broussard is a man haunted by sinfully erotic dreams. He needs a woman, and the new call girl Stephanie Grant looks like a good choice. Stephanie is not a call girl at all, so for her own protection Jake takes her under his wing. Jake is haunted by ghosts from his past and would like nothing more than to battle them in peace, while at the same time find his wife's killer. The Good Samaritan in him doesn't agree and he continues to offer his help, finding himself emotionally drawn in. No one draws him in as much as Stephanie does. She deserves so much more than what he can give her. But, before Jake can love again, he must first solve his wife's murder.
I love Stephanie's strong willed character. I also admire Stephanie's loyalty to her sister and her willingness to go anywhere and do anything to find Tina. Stephanie is strong, capable and competent, but when she gets around Jake, her vulnerability starts to show itself. Jake is protective, caring and handsome. His need to care for those around him make him a very attractive hero.
In Your Wildest Dreams is a hot read. The sexual tension between Stephanie and Jake is as sultry as the New Orleans night air. I love the way this couple fight how they feel for each other when together, but when they are apart, they yearn the other. Together they are a very explosive couple.
Jake's helping Stephanie overcome her sexual hurdles left me breathless and panting for more. Jake's intensely erotic dreams had nothing to do with his skill in helping Stephanie, but they sure were hot to read!! They gave me a few hot dreams of my own! Jake and Stephanie make the pages sizzle and my blood boil. Get a copy of In Your Wildest Dreams today because it's wilder than you can imagine!

Predictable and steamy romanceReview Date: 2005-09-26
Along the way, they embark on a passionate affair. Jake tries to resist anything more than a sexual relationship as he is fighting the demons that led to the loss of his wife, while Stephanie is finding herself falling deeper in love with a man who cannot commit. Their search for sister Tina results in the seamier side of New Orleans, and may have ties to other cases in Jake's past.
Meanwhile, Jake has taken pit on a street kid, Shondra. He allows her to bunk on his couch and generally looks out for her, while trying to encourage her to return to her family.
It is a very interesting storyline, and the lead characters have so much chemistry dripping off the page. But the plot surrounding Shondra is kinda clunky and does not really add much to the storyline (other than to make Jake even more of a hero). Overall, the story was a bit predictable, but still enjoyable.

CAMP X
The true story of what went on behind the fences
of
STS - 103 (Camp - X) This top secret World War II
Secret Agent Training School was strategically placed
in Canada
on the shores of Lake Ontario.
As outlined in his biography The Life of Ian Fleming written by John Pearson after
the
war, Fleming was required to take the same training as the Camp - X Agents
in order to realize the effect of the process
and to have a better appreciation for
what the Agents endured. On one occasion, he was sent inside with orders to
shoot
and kill the man he would find hiding in an upstairs bedroom.
Unbeknownst to Fleming, his intended target was in fact the
Chief Instructor of
Camp - X, Major William Ewart Fairbairn, a man who, it was fabled, was so good
at his trade that
he could dodge bullets! Pearson quotes William Stephenson,
Head of the British Security Co-ordination, as having said,
"It was a test of nerve....
a test to decide whether he (the Agent) really was ruthless enough to kill a man
when it
came down to it." According to the account, Fleming waited outside the
room for a time, then went away. "You know, I couldn't
really kill a man that way."
Stephenson said Fleming apologized later. Fleming drew from this and his other
experiences
with Agents from Camp - X to write his famous 'James Bond' novels.

While the plot itself is a bit predictable, the story is very engaging, and keeps the reader hooked. Nick has so many layers - he's both a tough guy and has a huge soft spot for the disabled brother he supports, while trying to find it in his heart to forgive his father for allowing their lives to be ruined. And Blake can really up to steam quotient - this is one hot book!
