This book covers the major types of syncope that a person might experience. It is very good at presenting technical information in layman's terms without making the science sound like magic. Syncope can be a very ominous diagnosis because the underlying mechanisms are not all known. This book is a good primer for someone who has been diagnosed with one of the major types or recurrent syncope such as neurocardiogenic or orthostatic. I wish I had this book when I was first diagnosed.

The Left Veered Right

The seemingly ever rightward tilting fiscal policies of both USA & UK continued from their beginnings under Thatcher and Reagan, emerging victorious from the theoretical challenges of the Clinton and Blair regimes to a position of perhaps unassailable strength today.

I really enjoyed reading this book, which charts the fiscal policy convergence on both sides of the atlantic. It often pays off to read something like this to remind yourself just how much things have changed since 1979.

The writing quality surprised me the most, having expected a dry, arid description of fiscal policy, I was delighted to find that the book was lucidly written in a fairly accessible style that meant it was finished and ready to be re-read after a day or so - always a good sign!

An Excellent Storyteller

Charles Harry Whedbee captures the attention of the reader in the very beginning of this book as any good storyteller can. From swashbuckling pirate tales of Blackbeard on Ocracoke Island to stories of lost loves or any Native American tales and legends on the Outer Banks, Mr. Whedbee does a spectacular job of pulling you out of the present day and time to the time of the story. It is my recommendation that if you love legends and ghost stories, you should get this book!

I have been a fan of Blair Drawson's work for many years. "Flying Dimitri" is particularly interesting to me because it is so imaginative and fanciful, and it makes me wonder what happened to Dimitri's mother. I'll bet she looked a lot like the queen of Mars! The paintings in this book are at the same time very pretty and very strange. Highly recommended!

A most interesting and fascinating book!

Francis Preston Blair was born at Abingdon, Va., on April 12, 1791, was editor of the Jackson Democratic paper, the Globe, from 1830 to 1845, and died Oct 19, 1876. I found this book written with a sprightly style and really enjoyed it. Francis Preston Blair was a confidant of Jackson and Lincoln, and the father of Montgomery Blair (Lincoln's Postmaster-General till the fall of 1864) and of Francis Preston "Frank" Blair, Jr., who served in the House of Representatives and the Senate from Missouri and was a Civil War general and, with Thomas Hart Benton, is Missouri's representative in Statutory Hall in Washington. Francis Preston Blair, Sr., was among the earliest Republicans, but reverted to the Democratic Party after the Civil War ended. His life was an extraordinary one, lived thru momentous years, and this is a good book to read. It is not overly scholarly--footnotes are not copious and there is no bibliography as such, but the author is clearly at home in the period (he has done a biography of Benton, and discussed it with John F. Kennedy, Benton being a figure in Kennedy's Profiles of Courage), and tells the story well. The period the subject's life covered is a period of high drama and one that has alwys been a source of fascination for me.

I read this book several years ago, and I still remember it. It was wonderfully written, and the story "came alive". I would strongly recommend it to anyone (not just children!).
