Each chapter is like taking a pleasant walk in an interesting place with a friend who is knowledgable and sharing but never didactic. The clear, clean writing flows smoothly and pleasantly thoughout.

These deftly crafted free verse lyrics also contemplate the spiritual meanings

Review Date: 2007-09-06
The inevitable infirmities of aging and death are difficult for most people to consider and only then in moments of crisis. "An Afterthought Of Light" is a compelling and very highly recommended collection of superbly crafted poems by Victor M. Depta that address the 'fear, sorrow and helplessness' that infirmity and death inject into daily life. These deftly crafted free verse lyrics also contemplate the spiritual meanings that might be embedded in our experiences with these inevitabilities. 'Iraq': there was just himself/absorbed in his modest unassuming way/by the slow, black spiraling--/his days sloping down/swirling and choking/toward the endpoint of the cone/the dot, the horrifying moment/for himself alone//until his grandson/flung backward by a rocket-propelled grenade/in faraway Iraq/sped past him, impetuous youth/spattering flesh until the spiral was a messy blur/which clogged and stopped/endlessly/obliterated by grief.

Breathe...

Review Date: 2001-09-01
Laid out in a workbook format, this book presents simple yet profoundly moving exercises that raise body awareness to a new level. If you have experienced abuse or physical illness (as these experiences seem to often result in a disassociation from our bodies), this book is a great place to start the healing process. An actor friend of mine also found these exercises to be useful in preparation for taking on new roles, and feeling more present in his body. What ever your motivation maybe, reading this book will help to revitalize your senses, and in so doing facilitates personal growth. I personally found these exercises to be insightful and gentle, and I admire the at-your-own-pace style this book offers. Lesson number one...Breathe.

A Must Read and a Call to Action. Don't sit idly by and do nothing.

This book is a must read for every Christian. it details in a very easily understood way the Christian Heritage of our Great Nation. We have been taught lies and revisionist history for several years now. Please read this one and let the record be set straight on issues such as "separation of Church and State", "the founding fathers of our country", and other related topics. This book can be read easily in one sitting and is also extremely useful for reference. Please don't miss out on this one.
It is a call to action for every Christian to contend now for our children and our culture, and most of all our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Blair's award winning effort, American Standard, is an emotional travelogue. The stories are bound together by strong characterization, made to look effortless as only a writer of Blair's calibre can. The stories vary in tone from the humorous to the macabre. In short, this work richly deserved the Drue Heinz award, and should be added to any bookshelf.

Bring Arachne back Alive!

This retelling of the myth would be a great basis for kids to use in creative dramatics. The rivalry, anger, and seething resentment in the text feels authentic, and would fuel good storytelling with two actors--Athena and Arachne--and a minimal amount of dialog to memorize. I'd recommend it for use in Language Arts for middle school and high school. This is not a "cutesy" version for little kids, but full of the defiant voice of Arachne and the vanity and arrogance of the gods as a counterpoint.
