Very useful & well doneReview Date: 2008-03-28
It analyzes each major historical development, explaining how regional and global events changed military aerospace. Chapters run typically 2-4 pages long. Text entries contain just about enough text material to do a decent job covering historical events without belaboring the issues. It gives itself the luxury of including anecdotes to help depict the human side vs. combat conditions or aircraft performance issues. There are lots of pictures (mostly B/W especially in Vol I), good-quality color plates (mostly half-page in size), and simple color maps to illustrate military strategies. Simplified aircraft stats are provided with the color plates.
I keep going back to this book to better understand how and why things happened. The information is concise and well organized, nicely presented on high-gloss paper, and well-written. I'm surprised to see no-one's ever written a review to this point for a book that deserves attention. You won't be disappointed if you're interested in military aerospace history. If you get Vol I, look for Vol II as well.

digital poster and card collages, and the gray paintingsReview Date: 2003-11-26
There is of course an interesting big of writing in probably three languages that's hard to decode in the languages I know, English, and probably easier to understand if you know his native language, German. I have the feeling he translated the thing online or something. Anyway, it's a great book, probably better than you even think it's going to be.

America's Quilts and CoverletsReview Date: 2003-09-29
The main emphasis of this book is on patchwork and applique quilts, which are certainly some of the most expressive, colorful and even dynamic examples of artistry produced in our early American homes. However, much space is also given to other examples of the great variety and beautiful design of the bed coverings created by past generations of American women, including bed-rugs, linsey-woolsey coverlets, whole-cloth spreads, crewel work spreads, "white work" or trapunto, Overshot coverlets, summer and winter coverlets, Jacquard coverlets, candlewick spreads, stencil spreads, crazy quilts and some modern examples of patchwork and applique.
Heavily illustrated with 122 color plates and 472 black-and-white photographs of outstanding pieces in all categories from public and private collections throughout the country, many of which are published here for the first time. Accompanying the illustrations is a laymans nontechnical account of styles, materials and needlework. This is the first major work published in many years on the subject, and the beauty in the book speaks eloquently for itself.
