What can I type that will help you to buy this amazing, wonderful book? I guess that if you are looking at it, then The Holy Spirit is leading you to click purchase:)! This book is such a blessing to my husband and me. We cannot wait to read it, probably many times a week, to our now 10-month-old son. Raising him to love Jesus with his heart, soul, strength, and mind is our goal. This book will help us to do that. Yes, it is THAT good! I am now buying it for gifts and have gotten the same response from my fellow moms! Beware though, it does set the bar wonderfully, yet challengingly (in a good way!), high for us parents! I LOVE it!

This book was very good in teaching life lessons. I didn't buy it for younger children but for 11, 13, and 15 year olds. It is amazing how you just lay something around and they read it. Now if I had MADE them read it they would have considered it quite childish. It is such a simple lesson on how so many things will change us, yet all of us, even adults fall into the trap of, "Not me, I can watch a bad movie, look at bad pictures, listen to bad music and still walk away the same". It pointed out that even knights had weaknesses they needed to guard against and pride will get you everytime. James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Imagine that you are a 12 year old black boy; now imagine that you are trying to play baseball in the harmful times of racial battles where blacks were mistreated and sometimes tortured for justice in an all white league in Texas. Sounds hard? Well that is the reality that Joel Carroll goes through in the book amazing Little League Heroes by Curtis Bishop. So do you want to know more? Then keep reading!
This is a story of a young African American boy named Joel Carroll. He is an talented baseball player, but is not accepted because of his color. This book takes place back when segregation was legal so Joel was not likely to play baseball, because all the teams were white. Also imagine that you lived in what can only be described as one of the first models of a ghetto. Joel lived in a hut like house on the outskirts of town with a tin roof, and old beat up houses. His father is one of the only people in the all white town who didn't hate him; usually he talked to his dad constantly, besides talking to his dad tutors him and councils him about problems that you would probably have if you were a black kid back then in the time of the entire racial stir.
A white person named Rox Dugan who thinks he is so excellent at baseball doesn't prefer to like Joel at all. Rox was the all-star player in the West Austin league. But also at the same time a white person by the name of Bob Porter liked Joel a great deal as a friend. Bob and Joel are the only two twelve year old baseball players to be picked to play baseball, Joel was over surprised that he even got picked to be picked to play. Rox tried to beat up Joel but doesn't succeed, you see Joel knew that if he tried to fight back when Rox was beating him up that Rox's friend would jump in and start beating him Joel up more.
At the same time some people in the town weren't too happy because Joel was black and was able to play baseball. When the manager of the entire league found out that a black boy was playing he asked the coach with a look of question in his eyes, "You mean that you want him on your team?"
Later on when one parent found out that a black person was playing on his son's team he exclaimed, "I don't care what the league rules provide my son is not wearing the same uniform as a Negro boy."
Joel ends up getting to play baseball and faces a lot of challenges with the white people. He overcomes his challenges and shows his team what he is made of. The rest of the book is for you to find out, so if you are a serious sports fan then you will love this book. It is a perfect book for anyone; also because it is a sports book it has a certain level of intensity in it. It has ups and downs all threw the book. So if you are looking for a high quality book that the whole class will enjoy then head on over to your local library and check it out it's the best thing you will ever do if you are a reading freak!!!!

This is a wonderful book by Curtis Bishop. I first read it when I was around 10, and loved it. Recently, I read it again for the first time in years, and finished it in one evening. It's an absolute must read for any young baseball fan looking for a good sports book.
Little League Heroes isn't just about baseball, it's actually about the struggles a young African-American boy, Joel Carroll, faces when trying out for an all-white little league team in Texas. The book does have a good message, but isn't preachy or self-righteous at all. Bishop knows his baseball, and at times you find yourself hanging on every at-bat during the ball games. A great, fun book.

Laura, my 2 1/2 year old can already read along with mommy. I think this is a great learning tool to help jump start a toddler into reading. I will buy as many of the pre-level ready to read books that I can purchase. Blue keeps Laura interested because she is one of Laura's favorite friends. I highly recommend this item to anyone with a toddler.

Comprehensive, beautifully illustrated with botanical drawings. A stunning work of scholarship, it is the ultimate reference for Hawaiian flora. Two large volumes. Intended for professionals, but amateurs like myself who persist (and use the glossary at the end of volume two) find it fascinating. Be sure to get the 1999 edition rather than the one from a decade earlier.

I wanted to put a web site together for a small business I am starting. I have a lot of computer experience (and am a CNE) but have little web authoring experience. Over the years I have found that the best way for me to purchase a book is to go to a local bookstore and browse through a bunch of books on a given topic. Then, I select the one I like the best. After looking at many books I almost decided to forget learning Dreamweaver. Then, I came to Bishop's book. Her book uses a great approach to learning. You work through the configuration of a number of different web sites. You learn as you build the sites. After I am finished with her book I may also purchase a reference or more advanced text. But, the bottom line is I can put up my own decent looking site now and I do understand the basics of Dreamweaver. I highly recommend this book. I think a lot of thought and effort went into this book. And, Bishop has a good handle on the learning process.

This book is rare among computer books in that it has both solid technical content and appealing design. This is not an all-in-one reference, more of a learn-by-doing guide with lots of supporting information. The book is well organized, and there are sections for all the most important tasks you'll need to use photoshop. This book is very pleasant to use, with great layout, design, typography, and production quality.
When reading reviews of computer books in general, beware those reviews that expect books to be all things to all people. Consider the following:
-What level of user is the book aimed at?
-Is it a reference book, a guide, a course, or a combination?
-Is the book well laid out and pleasant to use?
-Is the book well written?
-Is the material technically accurate?
This book, a basic/intermediate guide/course, succeeds wonderfully. This could be your first dreamweaver book, and carry you far. Maybe later you could add a reference work, such as "Training from the source."
This is a great book!

My son is 5 and very curious about insects (and most things in general)... the descriptions are interesting and photos fantastic. While there's a lot of depth there, you can skip some of it, and cover what you choose. I definitely recommend it for any child that's intellectually curious and not squeamish about bugs!

Anyone who has ever admired Dr. Suess knows what fun it is to read a book where the author effectively delivers an important message in a rhyming and entertaining story. Ms. Bishop pulls this off brilliantly in her tale of the journey of Jeremiah Joe, a tale which reminds me of the best traditions in children's books and poems. With Ms. Bishop's story accompanied by Mr. Jones' bright and engaging illustrations, this is perfect for parents and grandparents who want to read a fun and valuable book with the kids.
