An extremely well written and engaging story. As an elementary school teacher, I am impressed with the bigger ideas this story addresses--the importance of self-expression and helping children to share their feelings honestly, and of letting them know they are not responsible for events out of their control. Divorce is painful for all parties, but this story helps children and adults alike understand the critical part perspective and love play in healing and emotional growth.

"How I Survived my Parents' Big Scary Divorce" deals with the now common reality of divorce in a sweet, funny and poignant way. The main character, Maggie MacFatcha, well represents every child who has ever remotely thought their parents' divorce was his or her fault (and that IS every child, despite what we-divorced parents want to believe). The book drives home the crucial point that kids need to be kids, and not worry about the stuff that goes on in the "worn out and shriveled up brains" of grown ups, finding security and safety in the fact that both parents, though now separate, love them "more than anything in the whole world." My children, 11 and 8, both read it separately and I could visibly see them relax, as if they were relieved that someone truly understands them. My thanks to the author!

Undeniably, divorce is tough on kids but reading this book to a child will ease the pain and anxiety, open meaningful discussions, stir the beginnings of the healing process and put a smile back on your face.

How I Survived My Parents' Big Scary Divorce by Audrey Lavin is a wise, funny book certain to help both children and parents cope in a time of uprooted confusion. This spirited book helps children navigate the perplexing and frightening feelings surrounding their parents' break up.

Children will love the attitude-infused little girl, Maggie McFatcha, who is mad at her parents, madder at herself and absolutely furious at divorce. Maggie's sure her parents' split is her fault somehow, but with the help of her parents and an astute "feelings" doctor, Maggie learns that her parents still love her, that it's possible to have a conversation that doesn't involve yelling or flushing a cell phone down the toilet, and that her friends will still like her even if she lives in two houses.

Part of this book's title, "big-inch, small-block", reminds me of oxymorons like "jumbo shrimp", "pretty ugly", "mandatory option", or "open secret". That put a little smile on my face before I even opened the cover.

Besides his presumed appreciation of the oxymoronic comedian, George Carlin, author, Graham Hansen has been a hard-core Chevy fan all his life and has been building high-performance Chevy engines for more than 25 years. From this book, you'd think his knowledge of Chevy engines is nearly encyclopedic.

How to Build Big-Inch Chevy Small Blocks is just an outstanding book, right there with of some of the best of the automotive, how-to/technical genre. The only thing wrong with it is, in fact, the title. Oh yeah, it covers large displacement Small-Block V8s and does that well, but the book really is a comprehensive discussion of putting together any high-end, street or racing Chevy "SBV8," not just engines 377 cubic inches or larger. The most popular big-inch Small-Block has to be the 383 and that combination is addressed in detail. The author spends time on 406es and the really-big, Small-Block, a 454-cuin. monster which makes over 600-hp.

One of the most powerful parts of How to Build Big-Inch Chevy Small Blocks is at the end. The final chapter, called "Power Packages", is a database of seven different, big-inch SBV8s. Each engine is listed by major parts, engine dyno data (both graphic and numerical) and a brief description of each engine.

Other sections which are worthwhile for anyone building a high-performance Small-Block are Chapters two (on the theory of stroker motors), seven (camshafts) and nine (cylinder heads).

No doubt, Hansen's How to Build Big-Inch Chevy Small Blocks is a top-notch information source and a great read, even for those looking for general performance engine information rather than big-inch SBV8 specifics. It's taken a prominent spot on the book shelf in my shop.

B-STARR -5 STAR REVIEW
Georgia Woodbine is a true messenger a prophetess of life's real true teacher of our financial struggles, the ones we face daily without thought, Money Management - Materialism and all the woes of planning our lives without putting God's first. Many years of splurging, unnecessary spending, mismanagement that all leads to a downward spiral of unpleasant events. Satisfying our desires, but never finding the true path to success.

Georgia shares with her readers her personal experiences and knowledge in an effort to get us back on track, using the many biblical principals that we tend to ignore without even a second thought, that the path to our life successes are in the very biblical principals that we simply ignore.

Georgia's message is plain and simple "Put God first in your life," This is the message that touched me deep in my spirit. I had to do an evaluation on my inner self. I now have A simple daily prayer "The Our Father" and "Each day I know to win this war, I must put on the 'Whole Armor of God" This sets me on the path of righteousness and keeps me under the protection of My True Headship, My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

After reading Georgia's Menu's of Do's and Don'ts and various other guidelines to becoming successful without losing my soul. I knew that my true purpose was to follow the path that God has laid for me to accomplish my mission, the one He sent me on. I simply put His Will For You & I in perspective. I know my passion for fulfilling His will has arrived because I became obedient and humble, by deciding to follow, instead of lead.

There maybe setbacks but after reading Georgia's message, which lead me to know God is faithful and just to see you and I through until the end. This Book Will Truly Change Your Life. This is my review and my testimony to How To Make Big Bucks Without Losing My/Our Souls.

Thank you Georgia for sharing your wisdom! I love Your Passion for Our Lord Jesus Christ - Everyone should read this powerful little book of wisdom. It Will Change Your Life"

Deep down, I truly believe everyone wants to live a life of purpose and find success in their relationships, careers, personal goals and spiritual life. In spite of this desire, not many are equipped with the maps or guides necessary to travel this path, with the first thing being trusting in God's Word. Georgia Woodbine's book HOW TO MAKE BIG BUCK$ WITHOUT SELLING YOUR SOUL! The Do's & Don'ts to Living a Successful Life is a good starting point for those seeking guidance, mostly in having a successful life.

In this small, but well-executed book, Woodbine provides a wealth of information to help the reader tap into their passion and turn that into a profitable business and career. She lists do's and don'ts that will keep you emotionally and spiritually focused, while at the same time, shares that God has a specific plan for each of us and only from within can we find true happiness. Though simply stated, some of the passages in this book have the ability to change one's viewpoint on life. With chapters touching on praying, believing in yourself, never sacrificing your morals, managing your time, helping others, and most importantly, keeping God first, this will be a book I'll come back to time and time again. The tips to remember closing out each chapter and the included exercises are also helpful to the reader.

HOW TO MAKE BIG BUCK$ WITHOUT SELLING YOUR SOUL! is an easy-to-read guide on living a successful and bountiful life as promised in God's Word. I closed this book feeling inspired and motivated as I reviewed the 7 P's for Prosperity: Prayer, Prospects, Planning, Presentation, Promotion, Partnerships, and Persistence and the 7 Keys to Success: Faith, Courage, Passion, Purpose, Focus, Commitment, and Patience. With each set, I am armed to fully meet my destiny and all the blessings that abound within.

This Book is absolutely riviting! "How To Make Big Money Grooming Small Dogs!" lies next to my bed at night, and before I doze off I read another interesting chapter. I have really learned a lot about styling Poodle faces, and my friends have commented on how lovely my dogs look. I have followed the proceedures and details step by step. I'm not ready for a dog show yet, but my doggies are the best on the block.

My interest in learning Dog Grooming has been with me most of my life, but being a single mother it was an impossible dream to go away to school to learn it. By my purchasing this book, and studying it, and purchasing an inexpensive clipper, and practicing on my own toy poodle it was enough to give me the confidence to apply for a groomer trainee position at a local kennel/grooming shop. They are putting me on payroll, on a part time basis for now.

Anyway, the purpose of my writing this is to tell you that without this book I know I would never had gotten this far. I can never thank the author enough. This book is EXCELLENT! It covers every topic!

I am usually sceptical of books that make big promises, but "How to Make Big Money Grooming Small Dogs" is a winner. I've always wanted to be a groomer, but couldn't afford the cost of a grooming school. Well I'm here to tell you that this book is all you need. Nine months ago I couldn't even hold a clipper, and now I have my own profitable mobil grooming business!

This book is clearly written, beautifully illustrated, and easy to follow. Best of all, the author generously reveals numerous trade secrets and sources of unique equipment to save you time and money. I highly recommend this excellent "how to" guide to current and would-be groomers alike. If you ever thought of going into the dog grooming business, this book is the ticket!

The editors do a great job taking writings from diverse journals and magazines and putting them into a great anthology.

One subject area flows well into the next, and we are brought further and further down the road of a very terrifying trend in modern capitalism.

Even if your goal is to become a CEO, read this to understand just how corrupt and twisted is modern business. Read it to understand what kind of pact you are making with Satan.

As a former corporate CEO and advocate for getting special interest money out of our political system, I found this supporting my goals and was naturally drawn to it. It contains many essays adding weight to the subject.

Campaign funding allows corporations to get away with murder (sometimes literally) and it's just a matter of time before the public rebels strongly enough by throwing the current breed of politicians out. This book gives them reason to make that sooner rather than later.

This is a collection of articles brilliantly composed. Factual quality and research depth reflected by these well-written articles are impressive and respectable. A light touch humor made the reading even more enjoyable - at least for those who are not offended by the truth about corporate America.

From global warming issue to deceptive schemes in marketing strategies, the over-the-law and Enron-flavored attitudes of corporate Ameica were finally addressed and brought to the attention of the public. This book deserves to be a part of all students' education and thus, should be introduced to all highschool and college students. My 16-year-old really enjoyed the book and has lent it out to many friends.

My daughter is only 9 months old. About a month ago we bought this book for her, thinking she'd like it when she got a little bit older. She already has quite a collection of board books. She fell in love with this one the first time we read it to her, and it is already so chewed up and pulled apart that I'm ordering a few more copies. The cover has a picture of little girl waving, and my daughter invariably waves to the book when she first picks it up.

My son (12 mos) loves to look at the toddlers and their accomplishments in this book. It's nice to see a book that doesn't advertise a character or product or tv show! I'm sure this will be a favorite for a while because it deals with potty training, sharing, helping, etc. Some of the pictures look like they were taken in the 70's, but my son doesn't mind.

Another good book on the transitional OS - Windows 95

Review Date: 2006-10-27
This book is a great one for those who are into the history of computing in general and the history of operating systems specifically. If you are taking a course in computer science and you need to write a paper on such subjects, for less than a dollar, there is a wealth of information here on how operating systems transitioned from the unstable state they were at in the early 90's to today. I'm not singing Windows 95's praises as a product that fixed everything, but it was a product that started down the road to stabilizing home and business computing platforms so that you didn't cross your fingers every time you added hardware or software to your PC. In 1994 my husband and I spent two months just trying to get a sound card to talk to the rest of our computer without "screeching"! This involved pouring over documentation about every component in our machine.

The following is the table of contents:
1. The Road to Chicago - Chicago was the codename for Windows 95. This chapter talks about the mission of Windows 95 - to make every aspect of the PC running on Windows 95 easier for users, support staff, hardware manufacturers, and software developers.

2. Intel Processor Architecture - Talks about the history of the Intel processor architecture through the 80386 and how Windows 95 intended to capitalize on the features of the now ancient 80386.

3. A tour of Chicago - Looks at the structure of the system and associated terminology. It's just a brief overview.

4. The Base System - Examines the programming interface and the 80386. It also talks about true threading - something that was new to Windows.

5. The User Interface and Shell - Takes a lengthy tour through the most visible part of the system, which is the user interface. The chapter does a pretty good job of highlighting the differences between 3.1 and 95.

6. Applications and Devices - Looks at the implementation of the Windows User and GDI modules and at a few of the device drivers and subsystems associated with the User and GDI modules.

7. The Filesystem - Talks about the advantages gained in terms of performance, multitasking, and reduced memory requirements in a full Windows 95 protected mode driver.

8. Plug and Play - Talks about how Windows 95 made it much easier to add a new device adapter card to your computer.

9. Networking - Windows 95 came out when the internet was in its infancy. Thus, here the emphasis is on getting different computers within a confined environment to talk to one another versus internet computing. Remember that Novell was still top dog when this book came out.

10. Mobile Computing - Again, mobile computing did not mean in 1994-5 what it does today. Thus this chapter looks at the capabilities that the author loosely groups under this heading of mobile computing - communications support, electronic mail and fax support, and portable systems support.

Finally, there is an interesting epilogue in which the author interviews those heavily involved in the design of Windows 95 about its various functions and plans for the future. It's very interesting from a historical perspective.

I bought this book when it first came out, and I'll probably always keep it, along with a handful of similar books, just because it is so interesting to look back on computing history from time to time, particularly when it is written by those that were in the trenches.

Dear Amazon.com Readers,

"Inside Windows 95," by Adrian King, is a very good base for understanding the design considerations Microsoft undertook when it set out on its Chicago (later named Windows 95) project. Adrian King, a Windows expert himself, looks at each step of the development of Windows, all the way to the new 3d-controls, such as dialog boxes. There are illustrations of how each control looks, and explanations of why Microsoft chose the interfaces it did.

I read this book, and was very impressed by it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the WHY of the Windows 95 interface. This book also covers a bit of the Cairo project that Microsoft worked on. Cairo went through many phases and changes, and eventually evolved into the Windows 2000 of today.

An excellent short bio of the wondrously talented songwriter who had little musical education yet produced hundreds of great popular songs between 1908 and the end of the century (He died at 101.) As a non-musician, I didn't always understand the author's explanations of why a particular standard broke new lyrical or musical ground, but I found the information riveting anyway. Berlin, the immigrant, became a symbol of the American Dream and deservedly so. Anyone who cherishes American music should read this.

The creativity of Irving Berlin was amazing. This is a story of an interesting life, but also points out that, eventually, time erases foundations just like eroding soil or dripping water. Now, I would like to find a source to hear all of his songs as his number one concern was always quality. At times he would create a song in minutes, but it could also take years. As with most artists, he was continually looking for verification that his output was good. The appendix lists ALL of his tunes as well as other interesting data. A fine read.

While this book doen't cover as much of Berlin's personal life as does Laurence Bergreen's biography entitled As Thousands Cheer, Furia's biography does cover in great detail the background involved in a number of Berlin's songs. "What'll I Do" was written just after the loss of his mother. However, Berlin said people read too much personal stuff whenever he writes a ballad. I like the fact that the author includes the lyrics of a number of Berlin's songs. Despite being a prolific song writer, Berlin often felt insecure about his ability to continue to write songs. Following his first big hit, "Alexander's Ragtime Band" he always felt he had to continue to follow up with another big hit. He was able to continue to adjust to the music tastes of the country until rock and roll came in the mid-fifties. He became a very private man in his later years and felt people no longer cared about his music. Despite these thoughts, his contributions to American music remain timeless and will remain with us long after the latest fad of music passes by. To think that so many great songs came from this one man simply boggles the mind.
