Joey Allen has done a great service for parents. These books present basic Christian teachings in a format that is educationally appropriate and child focused. My oldest son (5) and daughter (3) have both enjoyed these books. As a parent I have learned to better communicate my faith for little thinkers.

Every parent or grandparent needs these books!

These books are great! The illustrations are amazing and the characters will capture your heart while teaching children the truths about God. They make a perfect gift for any child or a unique baby shower gift for those who are expecting. Joey has not only presented the truth of God in easy to understand books, but his illustrations really come to life. I love them all!

Be sure to read the Forward and Afterward to Parents in this book. It is a great message to adults as well!

Flight Path to Success

Review Date: 2000-04-02
A top notch choice for the experienced pilot who decides to fly very large jets. For those who are applying for an airline pilot position, this guide makes sense of the new-hire pre-screening flight simulator check on the B-767 or DC-10. The book earns it's keep on the book shelf as a nice review for the twice yearly proficiency checkrides. An excellent refernce guide for high speed aerodynamics and heavy-jet flight characteristics. Captain Davies writes in a way which allows pilots of all types of craft to add to their knowledge of flight. This is a classic book, buy a copy if you can and do not let go.

Definitive aircraft manual

Review Date: 2000-10-26
Despite its age, this is still the definitive book on handling jets. Comprehensive coverage of the widest range of topics, and to the deepest depth needed to satisfy any technical enquiry. Davies has an unmatched writing style that is highly readable, and right up there with the likes of Bill Gunston. If you prefer reading fiction more than textbooks, then this book is just about as readable as fiction.

Excellent sections on landing and takeoff. Davies makes full use of his background as Chief Test Pilot of what was then the UK Airworthiness Authority. He puts all the topics into the context of proper engineering and aviation fact, shows how the rules evolved from there, and generally gives you complete confidence that you've mastered the full range of the subject. PPRUNE Tech Log has always got one or two side references to this book.

Chase it up hard - it's still around - and keep it at the front of the bookshelf. My copy sits between 737-700 manuals and 4th edition Horonjeff.

Timeless Classic

I acquired my first copy of "Handling the Big Jets" during my university days when studying aeronautical engineering (at Loughborough University of Technology, Leicestershire, England) in the early 1980s. This was an excellent reference book then on handling jets as it covered all the major topics that I needed comprehensively, in simple and easy to read language and explanations.

However, decades later, it is difficult to find a similar definitive book on the subject. This makes "Handling the Big Jets" an important part of my library which I consult on subjects ranging from aerodynamics to aircraft control and stability.

This is a timeless classic which should be an indispensable part of every pilot and aircraft engineer's library.

Now that stroker cranks and heads are more affordable for Small Block Mopars its more a case of why wouldn't you stroke. This book follows along the lines of How To Hot Rod Small Block Mopars by Larry Shepard and includes various engine packages in the rear - which is great and gives you an idea of what can be achieved and what parts are required to do it, it also includes heaps of websites to check which is also great. The photos are great, gives superb guidance and ideas to pursue and really is a must for anyone building a stroker. Some of the detail can be a bit light if you are the type that really wants to know everything, but I think for 90% of readers like me its excellent and you won't regret the purchase price. In the long run it will probably save you money e.g. fitting Eagle Rods instead of resizing and grinding the block for your original rods.

Too little, too late, too generic has been my complaint on Mopar based engine books. Even the factory manuals have ignored the small block, especially the R series. At long last we have a book that at least acknowledges their existence. This manually actually focuses on the performance heads and blocks available instead of just the 30 year old factory stuff. A must have for anyone with a small block mopar.

This book is very complete and a necessary read for the small block builder who is not up to speed on current theory and component availability for the LA series. Building a big stroker from a small Chrysler can be an intimidating project because there is very little published that isn't about a Chevy.

Worth the money....and a great addition to your tech library.

A former Car & Driver editor, Martin Padgett takes his clever and informative style and applies it to the Hummer. He deftly addresses the sociological causes leading to the Hummer's success, as well as the resulting phenomenon that surrounds the Hummer today. And he does so with humor, making this a fun page-turner.

This is a wonderful book. I found a copy at our local thrift store and had to buy it because it was such a great deal (65 cents). My three year old son fell in love with it. The illustrations are perfect for young children and have made learning geography really fun. The entire family has learned a lot from this book. There are some things that are out of date (The Central African Republic of Congo is labeled as Zaire.) but that has been educational, too, as we have talked about the history behind those changes.

The best part is that it's a tall sturdy board book that you can prop up and have the kids point at, hold, grab, etc... without it getting torn. What better way for them to learn!

Schultz has written of his escapades in WWII with a sense of humor and leaves the reader eager for the next chapter. A variety of experiences; flight behind enemy lines, duel with an ME 109, rescue of Italian boy with land mine wounds, and spinning with General Patton kept me awake.

Fast paced story of uncommon bravery.

Little did I realize that the plane "Janey" was featured in an exciting book. Imagine my delight when I put a picture of my Dad, Combat Photographer, S/Sgt. Bill Heller, standing beside the Piper Cub "Janey" on my website [World War II Memoirs-3rd Infantry Division]. The bravery described in the book is understated but richly deserved. I recently saw a replica of the plane "Janey" which was built by Harold Miller and his son at Leland, Illinois. One doesn't realize the fraility and size of the plane until standing next to it. "Dutch" Schultz weaves a spellbinding and fantastic story!

A delightful read for Piper Cub buffs

"Dawn's first light crested the eastern hills and gave the earth a rosy glow. Flying on such a day was pure joy. Smooth, dense, misty morning air slowly released its grip as light emerged from the countryside, fulfilling the promise of another day. Our fears vanished as we soared above the sleeping ground. We were immortal. From our perch above the commotion, we watched the world come to life to begin another day of killing."

Normally I'm turned off by the High Literary Style, but the way that passage ends with the knife-twist--"another day of killing"--redeems it with room to spare. Time and again in Schultz's book, he and his collaborator pull off that neat trick: loving memories entangled with the ordinariness of war.

(Like the time Schultz lands Janey in a vineyard that turns out to be a German minefield. He's full of morning coffee, and one of his great hopes on landing was to empty his bladder. There's nothing for it! He just has to piss his pants.)

Schultz and Janey fly and fight with the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division through North Africa, Sicily, the Anzio beachhead and the advance to Rome, and finally the invasion of southern France. They both survive--quite an accomplishment, not only for the pilot but especially for the Piper Cub. Among other tricks, they take off from an LST "aircraft carrier" whose tiny plywood deck is greatly supplemented by 24 knots of wind over the bow:

Of course I am sappy about Piper Cubs. But I really enjoyed this book, and I recommend it highly.

A must read for children of WW2 veterans.

My father was an infantry man in WW2, and never had the war seemed so real to me as when I read this book. The characters are young and sometimes cocky, brave, funny and touching. Schultz makes you see battles from a whole different perpective--the skies above the action. He takes you from beautiful contrysides to the stench of battle. All the time you realize how vulnerable he was in a plane made of wood and canvas. As he says, "You never see the one that gets you." I laughed many times and cried more, but I couldn't put it down. It woke up all my senses!
