My son and I read this book over and over!

Big Bad Bunny is a big bad bully! He steals from his friends and intimidates them. Then one day Wise Old Bunny teaches him a hard lesson, and Big Bad Bunny changes his ways and makes amends.

With a humorous story and vivid illustrations, the authors of this picture book provide both entertainment and education! This book is an excellent choice for your 3-6 year-old.

This a terrific book for the preschoolers as well as school-age kids. The large pages and bright colored illustrations are funny and attention-grabbing. This looks like a book that boys would love, but it's one of my daughter's absolute favorites. The ending is happy, with a redeemed bunny- Hooray!

A classroom hit!

I bought this book not sure if the kids in my four and five year old preschool classroom would like it or not, but I took and chance. It turned out to be one of the better buys I have made this year. The kids would ask for it to be read time and time again. It was also a huge favorite for those kids who choose to read a story as their job during circle time. I finally had to retire the book we heard it so often and then brought it back for an end of the year treat, even then the kids were as enthralled with "Big Bad Bunny" as the first time they heard it.

I laughed so hard I nearly cried at the wonderful pictures of BIG BAD BUNNY with his root'n toot'n shoot'n gem-studded carrot holster, his sombrero and bandana, and the fear he inspires in his neighbors. Thank goodness for WISE OLD BUNNY who saves the day!!!!

My son can't get enough of this book. It's read every day several times a day. It's easy to see why as the text is very catchy and the illustrations are attractive. I've also used the story to talk to him about good and rude behaviour, and how the bunny changes into Quite Good Bunny at the end of the book. Even as I'm frequently rereading the book to him, it's still a hoot every time as it's funny. We're both hooked on Big Bad Bunny.

A "must-have" book, especially for those new to Win '95....

This book was very helpful and easy-to-read, I found it even easier to follow and read than "Windows '95 for Dummies." While the size can look intimidating (bigger than some phone books), you are soon pleased to find out that the size is such to accommodate many pictures of exactly what the screen looks like through each individual point-and-click step, making it much easier to stay on track with your applications. The detailed table of contents made it easy to jump right to the page you wished to view to take care of any specific problem or question you might be having about something. Since I had never used any version of Windows before,I found this book to be extremely helpful, and I would consider it a "must-have" for anyone making the jump to Win '95 or those who would like to have a great "how-to" book at arm's length. Very well-done

Excellent, user-friendly book for beginners.

This book is clear, concise, and very easy to understand. I have several books, but have worn out the cover on this one. I have never had a problem that this book has not shown me; in diagrams; how to solve. I give it a "20". Wonderful for the novice just starting with Windows 95, or as a reference for any problems that may arise. This book resides within easy reach beside my computer. I teach computer basics to senior citizens, and ask them to purchse this book in my first class

This book is great for teaching a Windows 95 Class.

I purchased this book to teach my Windows 95 class. I taught a class before with a different book and nobody in the class payed much attention. The first class I taught with this book everyone was excited. They looked through the book and they were ready to learn. I purchased two other books on Windows 95 and neither of them stood up to The Big Basics. I really enjoy using this book because of the Guided Tours it has. It lets everyone follow along without being lost. And when they take the book with them they will have a great study guide for home.

I would call this book a definate must have for any computer user's library.

A Worthwhile Intro to Wargaming for All Ages
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-24
I've been involved in wargaming and collecting miniatures for about 25 years. But even though this book is seemingly aimed at kids, I was still interested in acquiring it as a source of simple wargaming rules and as a way to ease some newbie friends into the hobby. This book provides a very solid all-around introduction to wargaming for both kids and adults alike. The concepts are explained in a friendly, conversational manner.

What makes this book valuable is that it's not just all fluff text and pretty pictures. Rather, it provides valuable substance in the form of its Milk & Cookies rules (for big battles) and Blood & Swash rules (for skirmishes). The rules are pretty straightforward and on the simple-side, which is perfect for newcomers to the world of wargaming. In fact, I've seen both sets of rules used to run convention games at the HMGS East cons which are held 3 times per year in South/Central Pennsylvania. So "Big Battles" isn't just a 1-time read; it's a reference book you can stick on your shelf and refer to over and over again.

The only real downside of the book is that all of the pictures in it (and there aren't all that many) are in black & white. That's a shame since the visual spectacle of wargaming is a major part of the hobby.

Overall, Buck and Rob did a good job here and I'd recommend this book for anyone (of any age) who has an interest in the miniature wargaming hobby.

Miniatures Gaming Made Easy and Fun

This is an excellent book designed primarily for parents interested in getting their childen involved in historical miniatures gaming. This book is also useful for anyone starting in gaming...Period.

The rules are strictly for land based combat primarily from the horse and musket period but the rules accomodate all periods from ancient to the WWII modern era. Two sets of rules are included within the book: The "Milk and Cookies" rules and the "Blood and Swash" rules.

The "Milk and Cookies" rules are for fighting battles with based figure units serving as individual pieces. Casualty rates in these games is higher than in adult oriented games as a design feature by the authors to cater towards younger or beginning players desire to see actual results from their attacks.

The "Blood and Swash" rules use individual figures to represent individual combatants in skirmish style games. The rules are based on swashbuckling pirate action in close quarters fighting based on bar-room brawls and boarding actions. The rules lend themselves well to commando raids and ambushes as well as wild west gunfights.

In addition to the above mentioned rules you get lessons in tactical principles and maneuvering which are well written and can assist an adult in explaining basic tactics to younger players.

The book contains a short history of miniatures gaming, advice on painting figurines, instructions on how to cast miniatures at home and several other topics. The Authors give plenty of insight about their experiences in gaming often agreeing to disagree on some preferences as too painting styles and methods.

I have bought my second copy to replace a missing previous copy (It really is that good). The publisher/authors have additional materials on a supporting web site. I have exchanged e-mails with both authors and have found them open to discuss their work, provide advice and generally share any knowledge they have on gaming.

Excellent Introduction to Wargaming with Miniatures

Although intended as a resource for adults to use in introducing younger players to the wargaming hobby, BIG BATTLES FOR LITTLE HANDS is an excellent general introduction for anyone interested in collecting and painting miniature soldiers and then deploying them on the field of battle.

The two rules sets included in the books ("Milk and Cookies Rules for Battles" and "Blood and Swash Rules for Skirmishes" are both quite easy to learn and play.

I had a miniatures battle for the Indian Mutiny set up on my game table, intended for use with another rules set but not yet begun, when BIG BATTLES arrived. A quick check of the "Milk and Cookies Rules" suggested I could use them with the unit and basing organization from the other rules set without change, so I was able to try out the "Milk and Cookies Rules" the same day I read them. The result was a very entertaining battle, played to completion in two hours; and I now intend to use the rules for battles in the English Civil War and the Seven Years War as well.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the miniatures wargaming hobby. Very well done!

While the book is pitched for use with kids, I think a better approach would be to aim it at anyone new to wargaming that wonders what it is all about. I found the 5 page History of Warfare and 5 page Primer on Tactics superb - both concise and interesting - making me want to go review my history lessons and explaining to me what I was always doing wrong at the gaming table!

Two sets of rules are included: the "Milk and Cookies" rules for bigger battles (where a player controls blocks of troops) I have used for games at several wargaming conventions in games for kids and parents-new-to-wargaming with great success. The "Blood and Swash" rules are a reprint of an older rule set for skirmishes (where each player controls a small number of figures) that allows great flexibility in scenario and setting - I have played in games using those rules for 18th century pirate tavern brawls on up to Buck Rogers era conflicts, and enjoyed them all. The differences between the rule sets make having both here far from redundant, and the apparent simplicity of both the rule sets does not mean that the resulting games are either uninteresting or inaccurate.

The back of the book with directions and tips on painting and terrain construction are okay, though I liked the front portions - described above - better. For example, I don't see myself ever homecasting figures, and the painting tips I had already heard as I was first drawn into this hobby. But they complete the picture and make this a good all round reference that you could even send to someone unfamiliar with the hobby and expect them to be able to cope without the support of a local wargaming group or club.

Just what I was looking for...

As a wargamer of 25 years with two young sons, I have struggled with determining the best way to introduce my boys to the world of miniature wargames. Now I have the answer. Rob and Buck do an excellent job of explaining how to create a pleasureable wargaming experience for kids. If you are looking for a simple set of rules covering many historical periods that are explained in a clear way, then this book is for you.

Wilma Kahn takes the reader on a jaunty pursuit with Gayle Fisher,PI. Gayle is confident yet cautious, quirky yet professional. Her escapades with family, lover, co-workers and the many locals that haunt the shores, are as authentic as the
sand laced through any visit to a Michigan beach. As Gayle navigates her way toward the truth about the Montague family, her wit and compassion create a character to be admired.
The sassy PI will have readers both chuckling and looking over their shoulders.

In Big Black Hole, author Wilma Kahn introduces Gayle Fisher, a young private detective who urgently needs a job. When she is asked to investigate an apparent suicide in nearby Shore Haven, she readily agrees. Upon arrival in the small lakeside community (where tourists are breathlessly desired yet barely tolerated), she accepts employment in the victim's household, and uncovers evidence that the death was not at all what it appeared to be. Though the people she encounters seem harmless enough, it soon becomes apparent that she is in grave danger. There is a secret that someone is desperate to keep.

Big Black Hole offers engaging characters, an appealing setting, and a well-constructed plot which, after many twists and turns, builds to a dramatic and totally unexpected climax. I strongly recommend this book.

Female P.I. Gayle Fisher needs a job but gets more than that with an investigation into a supposed suicide in the sleepy resort town of Shore Haven, Michigan. In the same vein as Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels and Alexander McCall Smith's "No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" books, Wilma Kahn delivers a compelling read full of vivid images, sparkling dialogue, and continually escalating threats to Gayle's life.

I just adored Big Black Hole. The author, Wilma J. Kahn, transports the reader to Lake Michigan for this half-farcial, half-serious novel about a young female P.I. Gayle Fisher. Not only does she electrocute her own cell-phone, but she also takes on a murder that the Shore Haven police want to sweep under the carpet. I wholeheartedly recommend this novel to anyone who loves detective fiction, good writing, and abundant wit.

Review Date: 2005-10-19
Big Black Hole, written by Wilma J. Kahn, initiates a playful detective
series that promises to be as addictive as Lay's potato chips. Her
detective is the single, attractive, and broke Gayle Fisher who has
inherited her father's PI business. Rather than continue his specialty of
photographing cheating spouses, Gayle takes on any job that comes her way.
Right now, her biggest task is to discover who hanged flautist Eleanor
Montague. This job takes Gayle to Shore Haven, the touristy beach
community on Lake Michigan where Eleanor lived with her piano-obsessed
husband, her caregiver sister-in-law, and her Alzheimer-afflicted
father-in-law, the famous pianist Dennis Montague. The plot is fast paced
and spiked with small subplots that lift the book off the ground on page
one and keep it airborne until the astonishing end.

Gayle tells her own story, and her voice adds a charming mix of heart and
adroit wit to her risky adventures. Her descriptions are precise and,
although Gayle admits to being a liar by profession, straightforward.
Gayle might get her heart from her female relatives, the McKenzie
clan, but that clever Fisher tongue is what sets her apart from her
organist sister. It allows her to spar, in and out of bed, with
super-sexy Lieutenant Leversee and to temper the dangers she faces with an
ironic perspective.

Kahn places the mystery in the pseudonymous towns of Collingwood and Shore
Haven in southwest Michigan, and her sense of place is exquisite. I look
forward to reading Gayle's next adventures trailing suspects around the
city streets and shorelines of Michigan.

Comprehensive Reference Guide for French Verbs

Review Date: 2008-04-21

I have basic knowledge of French and I wish to extend my knowledge of the language. I want to read and study French books, magazines and read newspapers. I find this to be an excellent book to help me understand and communicate. The book provides a comprehensive list of French verbs showing how they are conjugated. Various examples help you to understand the usage of the verbs.

If you need a comprehensive resource on how French verbs are conjugated, then you cannot go wrong with this book. The book comes with a CD-ROM with 200 exercises which helps to reinforce the learning experience.

Very Handy Verb Conjugation Book

I used the 501 Verb series in studying Spanish and French years ago. I still occasionally use those for reference. I picked this French volume up on a recent trip to Canada. Unfortunately, my copy did not include the CD, so I can't comment on whether that is a helpful tool.

Many of this volume's virtues are described in other reviews. But one of my favorites is the Irregular Verb Form Index. This Index is an alphabetical list of verb forms for many verbs which are different enough from the infinitive that someone (like me) who is studying the language cannnot readily identify the infinitive. For example, while reading in French I come across the word "sachant". Most dictionaries won't have it listed since it is not itself a separate verb, but the present participle of the verb "savoir". To keep you from having to search endlessly for what verb this is, the Index lists "sachant" and identifies it as relating to savoir".

Another nice feature is that for each of the Top 50 Verbs, there is a full page of examples of the verb's use as well as some idiomatic phrases.

I now use this volume in place of 501 French Verbs, but you can't go far wrong with either of these reference tools.

Bulky format; Great Reference Guide

Review Date: 2004-06-15
The only thing I don't like about the Big Blue Book of French verbs is its bigness; the 8 X 11 format combined with the book's thickness, makes the volume a chore to carry around especially if you are usually packing a dictionary, textbook and notebook to complete your foreign language study arsenal.

Otherwise, the book is great, consisting of introductory pages that explain the simple and compound tenses and provides usage examples.

The bulk of the text devotes a full page to each of the 555 verbs with full conjugations and examples of regular and idiomatic usage. Verbs which fall under the TOP 50 include an extra page of examples and related words.

ALong with drills to help test your knowledge of verb forms, the text concludes with three indices: an English-French verb list, and Irregular Verb Form cross-referenced by infinitive and a list of over 2500 verbs with their English translation, cross-referenced to their verb model.

Its bulk intimidates, but this book is a great reference guidel its dimensions may make it cumbersome to carry about, but it is a worthy desk aid.

I would recommend this book to anyone as a source for learning French. Yes, the book is not small, but if you are a college student, carrying books that are huge is nothing unusual. It is a fantastic buy!!!! I'm thrilled that I bought it.

I "read" this book because I'm a big fan of broadway and have always wanted to learn new showtunes. This book is great if you want to learn lyrics of great songs. Many of the songs in this book are popular such as "Memory" from Cats.

There is quite a bit of variation in this book. there are songs from all sorts of musicals. If you want to learn the tunes of the songs in this book, it helps yo play the piano or quitar. The songs are mostly in b flat. There are many time signatures too. I play violin, and I could learn tunes by playing violin using the music in this book too. If you are looking for some songs to sing for an audition, or to play for an audition, or just for fun-this book is great!

I am a singer and many of the songs I sing come from this book my favorite is "Being Alive". It's got a lot of songs from very familiar Musicals like the King and I and Sound of Music. Also most of the arragements are not bad either.

Despite the topic, the book is suprisingly light-hearted, & not at all depressing.

I find the cartoon character "host" of the stories, a little Goth girl, oddly charming, even delightful.

Many talented cartoonists are included, & the book is fairly well researched, although the sections on Countress Bathory contain the usual errors.

This is the first, and still the greatest, in the DC Comics Factoid Press series of Big Books. These books feature different comic artists illustrating factual information, and the Big Book Of Death is chock full of information on our most fascinating subject. Truly a joy to read, and a great resource for years to come!

This is another great Big Book from Paradox Press! It provides an interesting look at death. It examines every aspect, from famous graveyards, methods of disposal, beliefs of different cultures, etc. Very helpful as well! As French philosopher Michel de Montaigne is quoted in this volume: "Our fear of pain is natural, but not our fear of death."

In the Big Book of Death, for all of you who are just too curious about the Final Chapter, you will find some extremely informative stories, descriptions, and most of all, FACTS about Dying and Death. You can look forward to learning about methods of Death/Execution, a whole chapter on Weird/Bizarre Deaths, and information regarding cemetaries, Necrophelia, Last Words, and Suicide (and these are but few of the chapters!) I highly recommend the Big Book of Death not just for the facts, but also for the artwork, and the humorous way in which the authors view and portray Death. So, for all you people wondering about what Death is about, The Big Book of Death is for you.

Sick, morbid and lots of fun!

"The Big Book of Death," the second in Paradox Press's "Big Book of" series, is a fascinating, disturbing treatment of the subject we simultaneously fear and can't get enough of: death. With sections on pointless deaths, capital punishment, famous cemeteries, and lots of other aspects of the big D, it's an interesting and informative book. The artwork, by a multitude of comic artists, is also excellent. It may be a comic, but this book is definitely not for kids. If you're a grownup with a fascination for death and a slightly morbid sense of humor, though, check it out!

Hi I received my book in good condition. I was very pleased with your company. I will shop with you again. I know my dad will be happy with his Christmas gift. Do you sell glass lamp globes. I have a pink lamp with only the bottom half. I am looking for the top. It is pink with roses and a small covered wagon with a couple of stands of wheat around it. It is raised design that you have to look close to see.

Thanks
Joan

then this is the book for you. I bought it as a gift for a knowledgable friend and he was in raptures. I now know more about John Deere tractors than I ever dreamed it was possible to know! This book covers every John Deere tractor ever made and covers them in great detail. The photos and vintage posters add to the appeal of this tractor encyclopedia.

The big book of john deere tractors has a bunch of different types of tractors in all kinds of different styles. John deere tractors are very interesting.
I really like reading about tractors they are very interesting to learn about. It seems like every time I read about a tractor I learn a new fact. One fact that I really like that it tells the exact year that they were made. As you go along you find new ways to work on older John deere tractors.

I really liked this book because I like learning new things about tractors. I like looking and reading these books because you can find tractors that you may own yourself. It was very interesting to know all those facts.

Nothing was very confusing about this book I really enjoyed this book. There was only one confusing thing it was the diagrams. Other tan that there was nothing confusing about this book.

A "must" for all John Deere tractor enthusiasts.

John Deere tractors are often older vintage collectible models and this provides an excellent encyclopedia to tractors from around the world, providing a fine model-by-model historical reference and including European models in its assessment of tractors from 1892 to modern times. Photos showcase the tractors and add appeal.
