Jan Brett's story, "The Hat", is a real wonderous book! This book is a wonderful well-written story! With breath-taking pictures, and a beautiful story line, this book will have you smiling all the way through it!
In the story, a little hedgehog named Hedgie finds a stocking on the ground. Thinking it is a stylish winter cap, he wears it on his head, but it gets stuck on his sharp pointy quills! He goes around to show off his newfound hat, but gets laughed at by the animals each time. Poor miserable Hedgie goes off to be by himself. When the "hat's" owner retrieves it back from Hedgie, a wonderous and helarious thing happens! You'll have to read the book to find out!
The realistic pictures and side drawngs complete this wonderful picture book. For ages 6 and up, this book is another one of Brett's adored picture books that will have you reading it over and over again!

I love Jan Brett's work: A modern day Shirley Hughes, I think. 'The Hat' is as beautiful and charming stories as any of her stories - and with wintertime feel-good-factor.

Get The Mitten instead, if you don't own it yet. This one is a little on the tedious side. You can see exactly where it's going from the very beginning and it doesn't have the peek-a-boo/sneeze joke in it that my daughter loves so much in The Mitten. To be honest, this is one of those books we have in our bookcase for variety and one of those ones where I skip parts just to get to the end of it.

My daughter and I were looking for a theme for my pregnant daughter's baby shower when my husband said he saw this book entitled "Hatched" on Martha Stewart's show and it looked very funny.

I ordered it, read it and decided to make hatched chickens the shower theme. When the party began, I gave my daughter the book, explained why we had chickens on the invitations and she started reading. The book was passed around to all the guests (several will be ordering one for themselves). You could hear the laughing as the books made its way around the room. A few women even got into the theme by purchasing chickens and even a onesie with a chicken on it for a gift!

The book was an ice-breaker and certainly gave my daughter a view of her future via "chicken life".

I am so glad my retired husband saw Martha.

I am so glad I read your book. You explained things I needed to know and corrected things I thought I knew. Most important, your book helped me develop and refine the marketing plan that I am now implementing for my newest book.

I have been authoring materials and involved in media (producing and hosting radio & TV) for more than 20 years. After reading your outstanding resource for small publishers, I am changing the way I do things. Thank you for taking the time to compile your book and make these materials available to help others. My work will be more effective because of your work.

As a firm believer in truth in marketing, I had mixed feelings about this book. The information it contains is excellent and helpful for authors looking to promote a book, but at the bottom of the front cover it says: "A step-by-step guide to promoting anything from books to businesses." Sorry, that's not accurate. 75% of the book has to do with book promotion only. If you've got another kind of business, choose another book.

And in the second part of the book, contributing experts share their knowledge on marketing and publicity. Publishing experts uncovers us their tips and secrets how to market books.

"Promote Like A Pro" is a must read for anyone wishing to begin a self-publishing promotion. It is very exciting and has many good pointers. Definitely recommended as a way to help successfully promote yourself, your business or your book.

The self-promotion ideas in the Linda Radke's book look quite new and fresh for reader in Russia. I think, nobody in Moscow knows the tips how to promote a book. And I'll try this secret weapon with my next book. Thanks for sharing, Linda!

Little Eddie the elephant is having a birthday. All of his family have gathered at the lake for an exciting weekend. There will be cake and ice cream and a mud castle contest. Eddie is so excited!

The first night though, poor Eddie can't sleep because his ear hurts. He wakes up his mom, who tries to make him feel better. In the morning, she takes him to see Dr. Hippo. At first, Eddie is nervous, but quickly learns the doctor is kind and funny. Soon Eddie is on the road to recovery and can enjoy the rest of his birthday weekend. He even wins the mud castle contest!

This book is gorgeous! My two-year-old was captivated from front cover to back by the bright illustrations.

Also, the pages are thick enough that he can't rip them out! Even my eight-year-old enjoyed the story. The best part for me was the laminated trifold instruction leaflet in the back of the book. It was filled with all the information every parent needs concerning infections, including when to consult your doctor.

Armchair Interviews says: A book for kids that even helps parents.

Written by pediatrician Charlotte Cowan, The Little Elephant with the Big Earache is a children's picturebook dealing with the subject of ear infections in terms young readers age 2-7 can understand. After young Eddie the elephant spends the day making mud castles with his cousin, he comes down with a terrible earache. His mother looks after him during the night, and Dr. Hippo offers reassurance the next day. Will Eddie get better in time for his birthday party? An accompanying fold-out card "Ear Infections Made Easy: Answers to Common Questions" serves as a useful quick-reference guide for parents concerned about what to do when their children have ear infections. Highly recommended.

Reviewed by Cayden (age 3-1/2) and Max (age 20-months) Aures and Mom for Reader Views (4/08)

"The Little Elephant with the Big Earache" begins when all of Eddie the elephant's cousins arrive on Wednesday to help celebrate his birthday. They run down to the river and start building mud castles for the Mud Castle Contest on Saturday. Wednesday evening, however, Eddie wakes up in the middle of the night because his ear is hurting him. His mom gives him some medicine and says that they will see the doctor in the morning. After a visit to the Dr. Hippocrates, the doctor determines that it is an early ear infection and that they are just going to monitor it. By Saturday Eddie feels better just in time to enjoy his party!

Cayden: "His ears hurt!"
Max: "Hurt! Hurt!"

Max: Pointing to the picture of Eddie crying: "Cry!"
Cayden: "He looks sad because he is sick Max."

Cayden: "Why would they sit on the porch in the middle of the night?"

Cayden: "Why doesn't he like to go to the doctor? I like to go to the doctor!"
Max: "Like!"

Cayden: "Why is he wearing his blanket as a cape? Maybe he doesn't want it to fall in the road on the way out to the car."

Cayden: "My favorite part was when the doctor looked in his ears to see what was wrong."

Cayden: "I also liked the pictures of when they were building those mud castles, especially the elephant one!"

Kids love to read about familiar experiences (even earaches)

My 3-year-old daughter, who is almost never sick, and my 7-year-old son, who has frequent ear infections, both love this story. Although the plot line is simple and straightforward, they seem attracted to its familiarity: Eddie wakes in the middle of the night feeling sick; his mother comforts him; they go to the doctor; he feels better...just like real life, in their view. They also find the pictures extremely engaging. At first glance, the illustrations attract merely with their bright colors and whimsy, but upon further readings, the kids began to notice all the smaller details: the various ages and sizes of the party guests, the giraffes enjoying an outdoor fountain, the placement of the blue ribbon at the end. Almost all kids experience earaches, and almost all parents learn to cope with them; this book provides a soothing reflection of one of childhood's most common events. My kids are looking forward to reading more books by Dr. Cowan.

I placed an order for this product about Dec 3, 2007. On Dec 6, 2007, I was notified that the book had been shipped, and my credit card was charged. It was shipped via USPS, with an estimated arrival date of Dec 12, 2007. This was great since it was to be a Christmas gift. When it did not arrive, and the USPS did not have tracking information, I called Amazon. Their representative, Ahish, assured me it would be replaced and would arrive by Dec 19, 2007; still in plenty of time for Christmas.
Needless to say it did not arrive on Dec 19. It was finally delivered on Jan 25, 2008. Amazon would not reverse the charge on my credit card, and would not expedite the shipment. This is a completely unsatisfactory way to do business!!

My daughter is one, so she is a little young for the target demographic of this book. She does however really enjoy it. This book is played with multiple times a day. She enjoys turning the large pages and lifting all of the flaps. My only qualm with this book is, that although it is large in size, it is not have many pages. Overall though a great book and I'm sure my daughter will enjoy it even more when she is old enough to really interact with it.

There are many good ways to buy properties in this book but, some seem a little sketchy. They really push keeping the houses for your future, but do you really want to be a landlord, I don't and would rather sell and move on, who wants to deal with that. I have friends with properties and it is a constant pain in the b..., if you don't know how to fix small problems yourself you will be constantly hiring someone else to fix them and there goes all your profits. Peter never talks about taxes either rather painting a great picture of profit, yes he does talk about writing off the interest, but never about Capitol Gains tax that you will have to pay when you sell the house no matter how long you own it, you don't have to pay it if you live in the house for two years but if you rent you will. There is defiantly money to be made now and in the coming years and I will use some of the resources (They give you access to there wed site for free) and ideas in this book to make some money, but think long and hard were you buy (neighborhood etc.) and if there is really enough profit in the property after you pay your real estate people, Taxes and other expenses. Good luck!!!

This book explains process of working with PEOPLE through their forclosure problem so they can get to a better place in an ethical manner. The web information provided via this book is very useful for understanding the forclosure in my state and in other ones.

Actually ideas expressed in the book are even helpful in a regular real estate transaction.

The MFG coaches that are eluded to in the book are the best I have met.

My Thanks goes out to the Author for sharing his time and energy in putting this book together.

A big star can sell a movie much more than any other aspect - someone may be a fan of Hugh Jackman, but few would be fans of David Hayter, the screenwriter responsible for one Jackman's big films in 'X-Men'. "Romancing the A-List: Writing the Script The Big Stars Want to Make" is a complete and comprehensive guide to attracting those big stars to your screenplay, for that star support in getting the script writer's movie made - and to assure it will get the attention it deserves. Deftly composed and a must for wannabe screen writers, "Romancing the A-List: Writing the Script the Big Stars Want to Make" is highly recommended for writing collections, as well as professional, academic, and community library collections dedicated to film making.

Romancing the A-List is begging for a spot on your nightstand. This book ideal for screenwriters serious about their craft and wanting to get into the business as well as people who are interested in the story process and how their favorite movies have gone from idea to the silver screen. It's informative and entertaining. I like to consider it a classroom in a book. Christopher Keane takes you through all the steps, from creating a mini-treatment to building a screenplay in three acts. He encourages you to think outside the box but also to understand form and structure and method. I don't think I've ever read another book quite like it. I learned more about development of the story form in general in this book than anywhere else. If you don't get it, you won't know what you are missing.

Practical, Insightful, Encouraging

Review Date: 2008-04-26
This is one of the few screenwriting "how to" books that draws the distinction between storytelling ability and writing talent - one can exist without the other, and the shaping of a story can be learned. Keane's books always make the daunting task of starting a screenplay seem possible, nudging the writer in the right direction by examining concept and genre with a major emphasis on character driving plot rather than vice versa.
This is rare. The style in which it is written is incredibly readable, as he uses personal anecdotes (in the classroom and in Hollywood) and divides the book into chapters that function as "workshops."
Highly recommended.

What I like about this produce is that the verbs are in alphabetical order. What's missing to make it a good purchase is that there is no color distinction or size variation between the main verb and its conjugations. Also, the print could be larger considering the size of the book. I would have been happy to pay a bit more to have it be more user friendly.

This is an awesome book. The verbs are conjugated in all tenses. The verbs are in alphabetical order and defined at the top of each page. It includes examples of how to use the verb at the bottom of the page. Each verb tense is explained (in an easy to understandable way)at the beginning of the book. It also includes a mini verb quiz.
I am going to minor in spanish and am excited to use this book. It's just helpful to have all the tenses organized in one book instead of trying to search for them. I highly recommend this book and hope this review was helpful.

in addition to the advantages that others have pointed out, such as the examples provided, there is another plus which I don't think anyone else has mentioned. The book gives examples not only of the verb in use, but also of nouns and vocab that are related to the verb in question. So for example, for the word 'Anadir' (which means 'to add'), the book gives sample sentences containing the phrase 'por anadidura' (in addition:') and the noun 'anadido' (addition). These supporting phrases and vocab are every bit as important as learning to conjugate the root verb itself, and I have yet to find a verb book that does this in its sample sentences.

The author of this book uses the term "Catechism" which gives the appearance of being helpful to only those religions that use catechisms. But don't let that stop you from sharing the truths in this little book with your kids. Regardless of your religious background or preference, this book is more about living right than religion. The circumstances open up great avenues to discuss consequences for decisions. If you can look past our religious differences and focus on who God is you will enjoy sharing this book with your little ones

This has become a valuable addition to our devotional resources. I think every Christian parent should have this on their nightstand/coffee table for frequent reading. Our son asks for one more story whenever I say we're done for the night. That's half the test. The other is its accuracy to the Scriptures. This provides a clear format to convey our family's faith to our son. I didn't learn by question and answer catechism and was unfamiliar with it, but we love that format. I highly recommend this book for your children.

This is a great book and easy for parents to use. My only issue with it is it's not setup for my 4 yr old. I thought it would be a good thing to use for morning devotionals but it was over his head. Maybe not for your child, but was for mine. You could possibly adapt it to your child's age, but I'm not very good at that.

Could be dangerous....

I'm a little wary of this book. In the first 5 stories or so it seems that the emphasis was on the sin of non believers and new believers. Every time some one sinned it was this new Christian boy Daniel. Then the other children that were believers would point out the sin in the boy or go and get there father to help explain the areas of sin in the little boy Daniel. This type of thinking will lead you away from the cross and right into judgmental legalism. I think the book would have served its purpose to a greater degree if it would have pointed the hearts of Caleb and Cassie to the cross, to examine there own hearts and to be brought to repentance through Christ's work on the cross. The last thing I want is my children to be looking for sins in others without looking to there own hearts first. That being said it still had some great things as well. Teaching our children to pray through scripture and going through the catechisms is a wonderful thing.

A Superb Children Cathecism Book

I do not regret it a bit when I decided to go ahead and read this book myself, as a result of one of the boys in my class whom it was intended for as a Christmas gift did not show up last year. I just wish I knew about it earlier and had the privilege to use it as the `textbook' for the class. Though I have a minimum exposure to Christian children education curriculum, I would consider this book an indispensably must-use for every Christian parent and teacher teaching children aging, I would say, 3 to 10, for four reasons.

First, it is God-centered and Scripture-filled, which permeates every single lesson that Susan and Richie Hunt put together. It is indeed their goal "to teach children that they are created for God's glory", and their need for God's grace to live for him. Second, it is a beautiful relatively realistic portrayal of a humble devout Christian family. Third, it has simple ways to teach Christianity without being shallow in a level understandable by children. One might be surprised upon learning it is possible to teach little children some crucial Christian doctrines without the use of theological jargons; the ones included are the doctrines of total depravity, justification by faith, regeneration, and atonement. Fourth, it is pragmatic, where children not only learn about doctrines but also most importantly, how they would turn them into actions, exemplified mainly by Caleb and Cassie, the sweetest, best-behaving boy and girl I have read about, though not without weaknesses to prevent the readers from thinking that they and their parent are some sort of "Super Christians".

For younger children to second graders, I'd say, they need someone to read for them, but for older ones, they can read themselves with the help of their teacher to ensure they understand the lessons. Even for `big old kids' like me, these big gospel truths are still exceedingly precious. I don't mind at all sitting under Susan and Richie Hunt's tutelage in this book and would definitely use it for future teaching opportunities.

We bought this book to accompany the Butterfly Pavilion from amazon.com. This book was a little above her level of understanding, she is only 2 after all. She did get the gist of it. Great illustrations and concise.

Excellent book- my 3 & 5 yr. olds loved it, and it was easy enough for them to understand, yet descriptive enough that they were intrigued. We bought it in preparation for buying a butterfly habitat to watch the process ourselves. Great learning experience.

I bought this book for my friend's three-year old, who has been facinated recently with butterflies. I can see that he'll be interested now - and he'll be able to grow into the more detailed information later.
